  1. Sad day indeed. Facebook blew up with the news in the middle of the night. LouieB
  2. BTW I bought the new Courtney and played a selection on my radio show a couple months back. LouieB
  3. The article in the Trib today was very good. Speaking of Bartok, that's what we are playing on the Classical and Beyond Show on the 23rd. This is as much an end of an era story as any. Boulez was an angry young composer back 60 years ago. As the titanic figures of every genre pass, it is a sad day. LouieB
  4. Keeping the Jayhawks name for whatever group wants it has always seemed strange to me, but the Gary alone group is very very good. LouieB
  5. Too bad. Played some of his recordings on the Classical show last year. LouieB
  6. For the life of me I am not sure what Hixter thinks would be effective. LouieB
  7. Give these guys a week and it will be all over. LouieB
  8. They are getting old. I am guessing they may actually reunite, but who knows. LouieB
  9. I found three singles from the Friends of Dean Martinez at the Salvation Army a few days ago. Does that count? LouieB
  10. I played a Zappa piece on the Classical and Beyond show I host once a month (which was last Sunday) and I got two calls out of the blue about Zappa. They guys talked my ear off and I had to let them go. So the guaranteed way to get some attention is play Zappa I guess. LouieB
  11. Saturday December 19, I am on the Classical and Beyond show at 1-4 Central time playing a crazy variety of classical and modern classical stuff including Brad Mehldau doing Brahms, some new Frank Zappa (black Friday release), Edgar Varese (Zappa's inspiration) other modern classical as well as some holiday fare including early Christmas type music from Germany, America and France, Gregorian chant. Actually the Sunday slot was canceled when the regular DJ asked for the slot back.. Thanks for listening in advance. I know it is a busy weekend for everyone. LouieB
  12. Well one war was won by bombing; that was the war against Japan which needed, rightly or wrongly, two atomic bombs dropped on population centers. I mean do we want to do that again? I don't think so. Is this a real threat? I think we all agree it is. Can the US of A win this by ourselves? Not at all. The 100 year war with the Arabs is going to continue until both the various Arab groups, countries, and other alliances decide that enough is enough. I have been to VA hospitals. My father worked for the VA. It has not been the same since the Viet Nam war because the resources to deal w
  13. You mean the next President of the United States? LouieB
  14. Star Wars ended up in the 10 top local Chicago indie albums (indie??) according to Greg Kot. LouieB
  15. Yea who knows. But as with everything there seems to be enough controversy to indicate that something interesting was going on. LouieB
  16. I think there is a bit more to it than that, but I'll leave that up to someone else. LouieB
  17. Scared of Muslims? I guess we have some right to be, but just as I expressed my lack of fear of going into the inner city and not feeling I need a firearm, I feel the same way about being scared of Muslims too. I live in proximity to not just Muslims from the middle east (multiple countries), but from at least three or four different parts of the world and I don't freak out and run for the hills. Heck a Nigerian named Mohammed picked me up from Uber yesterday and he didn't look ready to behead me at all. My neighborhood has Muslims from the middle east, Pakistan and Bosnia as well as other
  18. Pack your bags I guess. I can't see how she can lose. Edit - On the way to work today I was wondering just when the Illinois primary is so I can finally cast my vote for Bernie Sanders and he can then get out of Hillary's way to becoming president. It's wonderful that everyone has gotten so excited about the guy, but at this point his poll numbers are beginning to fade. Bernie peaked a bit early I think, LouieB
  19. Damn people......guns like you describe are only used for hunting people not animals. Okay maybe most people don't use them to hunt real people, just fake target people, but they are for that only. Maybe they are used to protect yourself against dangerous people, but it's only people. Most of the guns in circulation are not for hunting animals, there simply are not that many animals to hunt. You can kill a bunny or a raccoon with a fairly low caliper rifle; you need something a little stronger for a deer or a bear or a moose or an elk, but still... This country is busy hunting people, no
  20. Missed her at Pitchfork, but like her albums enough. Good for Wilco though. LouieB
  21. Very Cool. Got volume 1 and now I just have to read it. LouieB
  22. It's the Beatles. If you have the money why not buy White Album #1? It's not like you are going to play it. You can put it in frame and hang it up and have bragging rights. Same with the drums. What does Ringo need them for anymore. He looks great (really great actually), but he's not going to be using them much anymore. LouieB
