  1. All that would be interesting but it won't happen for a few years. I just can't imagine Jeff Tweedy bothering to call the other two when he is running a world class band and production company. Why bother. Unlike Paul Westerberg, Jeff has a day job and a band and a UT reunion won't make nearly what keeping a healthy Wilco makes. LouieB
  2. Will watch this soon. Any link in the article to the actual campaign? Or how do you go to Kickstarter and sign up? Never mind. Got it Thanks. LouieB
  3. Well of course. Everything is complex, except for the fact that WWII meant a lot to the people who lived through it and fought in it and supported it. It was far less ambiguous than Vietnam, Korea, Iraq I and 2 and Afghanistan, which we can all agree are unclear both in the motivation for entering those conflicts and the actual outcomes. WWII did decide quite alot LouieB
  4. I was particularly impressed with the coffee stout that NG makes. I love that you can go up there and get a mixed 6 pack for under 10 bucks. LouieB
  5. You gotta love WWII, it was the last unambiguous war. LouieB
  6. or you could end up in the middle of a domestic dispute. LouieB
  7. I don't hardly drink but if you get up Wisconsin way, New Glarus Brewery makes great cheap craft beers in various flavors. LouieB
  8. This is like the Tolstoy story about "How much land does a man need?" I don't know how many guns you think you need to defend yourself, that is clearly your own personal issue, but if someone pointed any sort of gun at me if I were an intruder I would get the hell out of there in a flash. I am currently on the west side of Chicago, which would be considered by most people one of the most dangerous places in the USofA. I don't feel scared and I don't carry a gun. Call me crazy, but I mind my own business, act like I am supposed to be here (which I am), I am cautious, and don't do anything
  9. I am not taking issue with the fetish itself; everyone is entitled to their fetishes, which is why I am comparing this to the record collecting that many of us here have. I admit it and revel in it I suppose, despite it being weird to the outside world. You only need one gun to protect yourself and that could be small handgun or a regular shotgun or a rifle of some sort. Fess up Hixter. You DO fetishize guns. It is only a problem if you think it is a problem. The rest of us know fetishes are just part of life. LouieB
  10. Where on earth do you live that you need 9 shotgun shots to defend your home?? I live in one of the largest and probably most violent cities in the USofA and I have an alarm system and no guns whatsoever. I don't need an answer to this, because basically I do know the answer. You feel like you need one and you have the right to have one, etc. But let's be honest here. If someone breaks in with even close to that firepower and that gun is locked up as it should be, you won't stand a chance. And if you leave it sitting around loaded, then the chance of someone NOT invading your home getting
  11. You can really blow the shit out of a target with that I guess. Or do they shoot 9 clay pigeons at a time? LouieB
  12. Truly an important person. Thanks for posting this. Saw many shows when he still was part of Second City. LouieB
  13. This book is not a biography and was revised three times, so even the author realized he hadn't really covered the subject the first time. We can argue about this book (although I enjoyed it a lot), but much of what is in it is highly speculative. If this book were only about the music I might read it (I mean why not speculate on Wilco too), but rehashing the salad years in Belleville and the fights in UT seems like something best left alone. LouieB
  14. I have a copy, but never rea,d the Greg Kot book. I like reading bios of musicians, but won't be reading this one either I don't think. I was going to say that reading a bio of an artist who is still active (and very much alive or not yet elderly) can be goofy, but I have read some. (Bob Dylan) I suppose the most interesting period of every musician's life is their early years, when they are formulating their art. I didn't read the Kot book because knowing the band I guess I don't really want to know all the dirt someone has dug up on them. More power to this author for finding a suita
  15. I was offered a ticket for Wayne Shorter at Symphony Center that night, but opted for the Constellation show instead. Initially I thought I made the wrong decision. Only Fred and Glenn had ever played together before (amazing that he had not played with Jeff Parker, who plays with Nels quite a bit.). I thought they got off to a slow start and didn't jell that well. This was a purely improv show, with no planning or basic composition at all. They got better during the first half and then took a long AACM type break, during which about half of the audience split. It was the second half that
  16. There is also a story on the Sun Times site of pictures from the inside of the house. It is a mess, but not hopeless. If anyone can find this story, please post the link. LouieB
  17. Really? Has Rolling Stone been reduced to THIS?? LouieB
  18. Yea, that's okay. LouieB
  19. They made enough money doing three nights here in Chicago this past week to buy the thing outright. LouieB
  20. Dude, you are on this. Glad I could help in a small way. Clearly the idea of this house being demolished struck a chord with most people. If someone gets the kickstarter info, please post it here, I will certainly chip in. Maybe Mick and Keith can front the rest. LouieB
  21. That was a very interesting article. Its always interesting to see the NY Times cover the alt-country. LouieB
  22. In that case I will find time to re-listen to the 801. By contrast I am sure that it is better than July, which is just horrid. LouieB
  23. I found most of July 1 unlistenable. I had a copy and gave it away. And unlike my opinion of the live 801, July 1 I just listened to a couple years ago. LouieB
  24. Thanks for posting this. Back when the other article was published Hoekstra was notified. Good for him for following up on it. I am periodically asked by folks what is going on and what can be done, but ultimately as long as it is still in the hands of the owners, there isn't much. So so sad. LouieB
  25. Without the medical industry, Cleveland would have closed up long ago. LouieB
