Monsters of Folk (James, Oberst & Ward)
Smokestack Joe replied to Wild Frank's topic in Someone Else's Song
i can't see M Ward in Kiss get-up. He seems a little too serious for that type of shenanagins. but that is awesome that he did it! -
said on 5-10-97 at Fillmore West SF.....(i just listened to the bootleg)

Total Springsteen on the "pat-fist-in-air" photo.

10 Best Albums Resulting from Uncle Tupelo Breakup
Smokestack Joe replied to choo-choo-charlie's topic in Just A Fan
articles/lists like this one are purely fodder for online message boards like this one. i do love all those records (never heard the Gourds one) but i disagree with the order/selections. Im just glad Jay Bennett was included. -
Saw Weezer on Letterman tonight...
Smokestack Joe replied to Sweet Papa Crimbo's topic in Someone Else's Song
id love to see them this winter in Chicago/Milwaukee but it is not worth the price of ticket. i saw them in madison during the Green Album and wasnt too impressed. makes me sad to feel this way. -
yes the Packers are better off without Favre. He didnt want to be in GB anymore, if he was last year would have killed him and he would have retired again, and GB would have lost Rodgers and then we wouldnt have a QB for the future and be worse off. I hated to see him go and retire but i hate to see him doing well for a Rival. Im a Favre fan so im happy for his success but Im a life long Packer fan so I cheer for them over Brett.

Favre played great against my team the Pack. The Packers defense was horrible. too many penalties, too many sacks, no pressure. story of the season.

instead on Tweedy playing at people's homes for charity, he should host a private charity show at the loft. that would be sweet.

Im guessing that a Fender Jazzmaster is a more quality guitar then a Fender Jaguar. if anyone was had played one or own them, can you explain the differences? I know the Jag has different tone controls, etc... both look great though and down the road i would like to rock one out big time!

i just picked up the 180-gram reissue of The Flaming Lips The Soft Bulletin. I think that album is quite essential.

Iron Chef - wearing a chef's coat while holding an iron. Serial Killer - dressed in black with a bunch of mini cereal boxes stapled to clothing while holding a non-threatening plastic knife.

from spencertweedy.com Do you ever find yourself listening to Uncle Tupelo or Son Volt, or is that off limits in the Tweedy household? The only music off-limits in the Tweedy household is Gretchen Wilson. Other than that, we have every Uncle Tupelo record (duhhhh) and every Son Volt record, and are free to listen or love any of them.

I love Poor Places. Just a total mind-blowing blast of sound. I certainly loved the version at Auditorium Theatre a few years back in chicago when they had the giant video screen behind them. THe images really enhanced the song.

Maybe instead of GA and assigned seats Wilco should have separate seating for VC members and non-VC members? yeah Segregation is always the answer.....sorry i want no part of elitism.

one last thought, im sorry to Lance Briggs that you and your friends had this experience at the show. it is truly sad. and i hope that the fans don't ruin the live experience of Wilco. After reading show reviews and reading that Jeff has "scolded" fans for videotaping or taking photos, it seems at times things get out of control, these episodes are created by people who are disrespectful and selfish. Most Wilco shows i have attended have been a pure blast, there have been minor distractions, but nothing like Lance Briggs experienced. i dont think it occurs all too often.

this is the reason i dont stand in the crowd anymore when there are seats available. too much shitty politics, territorial issues, etc....i respect that fact that people waited to get a good spot. i used to do that back in the day when wilco played in bars and to get a good spot you had to wait outside in line to get upclose. and yeah i guess i got a little pissed when someone weaseled up but it was usually a really drunk disrespectful person. it seems like people who are "true fans" (define that anyway you want) feel that the show is "theirs" so they dont want anyone interrupting it. i get

WILCO - 10/18/09 UIC Pavillion, Chicago Night #1
Smokestack Joe replied to Dude's topic in After The Show
i sat on the other side of the arena directly in front of stage, the sound was great, although very loud. Wilco brought out a lot of rockers. Deeper Down got a little lost in the big arena though. THe venue was cool but i hope wilco doesnt become an Arena Rock band. but i had a great time anyway. thanks wilco -
fantastic show! great cover of 80s song Your Love (I Just Want To Use Your Love Tonight) Live at the Riverside

im a big Weezer fan. Blue Album is one of my all-time favorites. i dont expect a whole lot from Raditude but im sure it will be fun. any fan should check out Rivers Cuomo's Home Recordings records too.
