Kevin Costner and Modern West -
not too many at the madison show, also, i think people left after the Mekons. I'd say the front dance floor/mosh pit area was pack and a smattering of people in seats, probably around 200 people. I enjoyed Gary but after seeing him for years with the Jayhawks it was odd (and sad) he was on stage with kids half his age backing him. nothing against them im just used to seeing Gary with Tim/Mark/Karen etc... The Mekons kicked ass. lots of joking around, fun time, loose set. foul mouthing and dancing by langford

that got me more excited to see my old friend on thursday in Madtown.

i always enjoyed Trace - Son Volt as a good road record and most Uncle Tupelo.

just discovered Cataldo's Signal Flare and Jacob Golden's Revenge Songs. Both are great pop folky records. Cataldo is Eric Anderson & Friends playing banjo/piano/acoustic guitar pop melodies....Jacob Golden vocal and guitar Elliott Smith-esque, breakup songs. Great Stuff if you are like me, happy to find new folky guys!!! Other good Folky guys: Seawolf, Patrick Park, Ferraby Lionheart, The Everybodyfields, Bon Iver

I miss the Jayhawks, dearly. used to go to minneapolis every year to see them at First Ave and outdoor festivals....

i miss the old band and the times of the mid to late 90s wilco era. i dont mind that they are getting popular but i dont think they will ever be super popular. I dont see a fanbase around the country like the one in Chicago. They arent a part of mainstream music. I guess you can argue that SNL is somewhat of a barometer if a band has 'made' it or is mainstream. it took wilco 10+ years to get there and it took Vampire Weekend less than a year. Wilco is not mainstream and i dont think they ever will be so like the Son Volt fans, i like that wilco is still widely unknown.

yes i thought Tuesday show was great!!! was near the top of the balcony this time and i really enjoyed, i know some people rip the Riv but i have no qualms with it. Highlights: Is That The Thanks I Get, In The Future Age(full band version kicks ass), I Must Be High, Summerteeth, Kingpin Band was tight and have lots of fun. My Winter Residency is over, 3 of 5 nights was awesome, I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Thanks WILCO for great shows, great performances, Thanks Riviera for a home for 3 nights, and thanks Chicago for being close to Milwaukee. -

just got back to wisc.....great show. many slow beautiful numbers.....i think Blue Eyed Soul sounded perfect. first song of night and they hit it right off the start!!! very happy they played Should Have Been In Love and Pick Up The Change (dylan version-harmonica) My Darling was a total surprise. The Being There closers: Red Eyed and Blue - I Got You - Monday brought back a ton of memories of the good ole days. awesome energy and tons of fun. -

oh yeah as far as fans go, a drunk guy in front of me had the worst White Guy Wilco dance. i could tell he probably only owned YHF, GIB, SBS records as he danced to those songs. but when CandyFloss came on he looked clueless. It reminded me off a show in July 2001 in Madison, i noticed the crowd was a lot younger and when Wilco played Heavy Metal Drummer, all the young kids screamed and danced and hopped around, but when a Summerteeth or Being There song was played, they sat down and looked bored. not saying that it is all bad, just recognizing the evolution of the band's popularity -

i got to the riv at 630pm last night but went and got some grub. headed to the line at 720pm and stayed in a continuous moving line for 5 minutes, got nearly strip searched, then walked up to balcony and got seats with no problem....mid center section 3 rows from 'blocked off family/friends etc.. section" waiting in line may only get your front row in mosh pit area.....but who knows tonight with all the buzz surrounding show... -

wow, like everyone has said, Great Energy, Top Quality. i dont want to be biased but I think a show like this could only be pulled off in Wilco's hometown. the whole family was in attendence, band really fed of great crowd energy, local horn players, Jeff played his early century Martin (aka Woody Guthrie guitar) on Either Way, probably doesnt travel well, nearly 3 hours of show!....... I too would say highlight was Can't Stand It just because it was the best sounding, energy packed version ever. knowing that jeff didnt like the song at first (from Kot's book) it was really top notch with ad -
cant wait to see Henneman play the solo on That's Not The Issue....oh wait....he probably won't be there.

WoW i just finished listening to What Another Man Spills and what a great F*cking Record!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

listened to Nixon and Is A Woman today for first time. nixon incorporates a lot of sounds/genres...Is A Woman was quite moody, wintry, rainy album full of piano ballads.....i really liked both.
-
ok, i will probably get busted for this, but i have had this LP for years and it is still in the plastic wrapping. i havent listened to it. i was waiting to get a record player and now that i have one i still havent listened to it. guess im waiting for the right moment because i have a feeling it will be pretty magical.
