Glad that you guys are safe n sound, Joods... thunderstorms over NYC today... thunderstorms. In mid-January. Great.

WOW, amazing that ACTIVE players were receiving votes in the 1936 election! Gehrig, Foxx, Bill Terry ('36 was his final year), Rogers Hornsby (was a player-manager with the St. Louis Browns in '36), Cochrane,

I pretty much agree with all of these, but how about a potential unanimous selection (receiving 100% of the BBWAA vote)? All time voting percentage results I could see someone like A-Rod possibly being the first-ever unanimous selection...
-
Old-time reporters like Jack Lang always said that the original BBWAA voters were outrageously stringent. Isn't it impossible to imagine Joe DiMaggio NOT getting in on the first try??? Who do you think could be the first unanimous Hall-of-Famer, if anyone? Of course it's early to speculate on current players, but just for fun... Alex Rodriguez? Albert Pujols? Also, just thought of it and am wondering about your opinion... is Ken Griffey, Jr., a first-ballot HOFer?

Here's to ya, Marijn! Enjoy your birthday, old pal...

Gotcha.

Voting for one doesn't prevent you from voting for another... often-times its writers who have become close with players who put a vote down for them just out of respect, but not expecting them to make it necessarily. If a writer voted for Todd or Chuck, it didn't necessarily prevent him or her from voting for Jim.

Holy fuck that Swart Atomic Space Tone sounds incredible... now to go out and mug a few sugar daddies on Central Park West to finance it!

Are you kiddin' darlin??? That invitation was opened up waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back when you stayed with us in our humble abode and has NEVER closed. Last weekend of July... bring Em, Graham, and your tent!!! I'll show you the spot in the HOF where Stan Musial introduced himself to me (right in front of Joe Medwick's plaque). -
Not for nothing, but the McCormick kids are far better-looking than Mr. Z. That must've been a lot of fun!

Gosh... please rest in peace knowing that you touched an awful lot of people, Nat, and that you'll be missed by even more. Patti and I send the most heartfelt condolences to her family, and to those of you who got to know her personally... Kate, Rosie, Maudie, Yvon... -

I'm a sucker for Hebrew National and Nathan's hot dogs... guess it's the brooklynite in me. Oh, and check out how much of Citi Field is done to this point... Opening Day for the new Mets' ballpark is in 2009.

this is a great idea... please put "a reprieve from unexpected deaths" on a piece of paper for me. -
In the interest of being a blatant pimp for my show this coming Thursday, I'm bumping this up in the hope that any NYC-area-based VCers might be in the neighborhood.

Playing an iPod through an older stereo
Twisted Acres replied to kathyp's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
maybe the cassette-to-1/8" plug that people used to get for their Discmans to work in their car stereo might do the trick? (if it has a cassette deck, that is) or, if there's an AUX channel, maybe you can plug this thingy into the rca inputs on the back and plug yer ipod into it: -
Lots of love & good wishes on your birthday, Edie... Yay Saturday birthdays!

relegation is NOT an option, Marijn. Willem vibes emanating from the Great Northeast!

Country Music HOF is a must-visit, and I can't recommend Monell's enough... fabulous southern-style eats for a suprisingly affordable price (less than $20/person when we went last May)

BBE's Boosta Grande provides a nice clean variable volume boost if that's all that you want.
