  1. Seeing Old 97's in Richmond at The National tonight. Tommy Stinson is opening!
  2. I know. It's not even on Wilco's FB page and they haven't been tweeting about it either. Wonder who's asleep at the switch?
  3. Quite a few, of course. But one big difference is that those songs are more than 20 years old and even though there are some great ones, they're in a rootsier style that may not play to the strengths of Wilco, as currently constituted. Whereas the new songs are, well, new. And some of them seem like a perfect fit for Wilco. It's all idle speculation at this point anyway.
  4. How long do we think the Tweedy band will last, though? Maybe it will become a regular thing, but it also could be essentially a live delivery system for the songs that Jeff and Spencer recorded for Sukierae. So if the band doesn't become an ongoing concern, why would Jeff just abandon so many strong songs? Some of them seem perfect for Wilco, like Diamond Light, World Away and Low Key. As I said before, who knows, but IF the band doesn't stay together, I just can't imagine that the songs would not be played again other than at solo shows.
  5. The Handsome Family has been there before, although there's no reason they couldn't return. I'm hoping for the Replacements, and somehow I just think it's going to happen.
  6. I also have no way of knowing, but I'll take that bet.
  7. I'll be interested to see whether Wilco plays many of the songs from Sukierae at Lockn' in a couple of months. Diamond Light is one of the prime candidates for the full Wilco treatment, I would think. There's a lot of space on that song for improvisation, and the crowd at Lockn' would probably be very receptive.
  8. Wow, I just woke up and am thrilled to see your post, Paul (after staying up far too late last night waiting for someone to give us the scoop.) Thanks for all the details, especially concerning the interview portion. About how long did the conversation last, and do you know whether they usually broadcast pretty much the whole thing or edit it down? And did they give any indication of when this will air? I'm guessing closer to record release date but am hoping for sooner. And yes, even I know several other people who were there last night. Chime in, you guys!! Thank you for doing your duty,
  9. Gogol Bordello tonight at the Norva!
  10. It's an incredibly pretty tune. I'm not sure exactly what constitutes a waltz, but this sounds like one to me. I can't think of anything with a similar tempo or sound that Jeff's ever written. And he has really developed into a champion whistler!
  11. I agree that Jeff didn't owe anyone an apology, but I also thought he would have announced some kind of a hastily arranged makeup show. If there's anyone in Chicago who has the connections to locate a venue and schedule something at the last minute it's Jeff and Sue! In fact, even though I'm usually a relentless Wilco booster, I did put out a post on their Facebook and Twitter accounts on that day suggesting that they take a cue from Jason Isbell. (Jason was scheduled to open for Willie Nelson a couple of days prior to Taste, somewhere in Oklahoma, and when Willie cancelled the show due to ill
  12. Wow, Hixter, those are great. Priceless memories!
  13. Yeah, that's probably what happened, and then I went and publicly shamed him so he let me back in. Just kidding, tommyjacobs!!
  14. Yes, and it's now working fine for me too. It's weird--I've been trying for the last week or so and kept getting the same error message no matter what browser I was using. Then today after posting this suddenly it's working for me on IE and Safari. So maybe the stars aligned!
  15. Anybody else noticed that the site has been down for a while now? I sent a message to the person who runs it but haven't gotten a response. I don't know if it might be a money issue, but if so it would certainly be worth supporting him. It's such a fantastic resource and I would hate to lose it. If anyone has any information, please share.
  16. Oh, thank you so much! Even though I did get to hear the show, it's one I'll want to revisit often. You are doing us all such a great favor!
  17. I actually got to hear the Ryman show tonight. I have this little one-night-a-week shift I work at a great local video store, and I told my coworkers about the show. We hooked it up through the store's sound system--which is very good--and played the whole thing from beginning to end. Just a few pain in the ass customers to distract me. It sounded so good! I am really sorry for those of you who were planning to go to Taste tonight, though. That would bum me out so much.
  18. Col., would you be so kind as to try to capture the Ryman show for those of us who have to work and can't tune in? I'm going to try to tune in surreptitiously while working, but there are a lot of variables that might keep that from happening.
  19. maybe you'll get lucky and Tweedy will schedule a small show at some cool club in Chicago tonight Jason Isbell did this recently when they were opening for Willie Nelson and Willie Nelson cancelled Jason found a venue in that town and played what was apparently a damn good show
  20. Oh,I just checked out Chicago weather online.Ugh. I hope it improves for you.
  21. Hey, should all of us going to Newport figure out some way to meet somewhere, sometime? I would love to do that, but I know how crazy it can get at a big festival with running from stage to stage. Plus, of course, we may be with friends and family who have other plans. But still, maybe someone has a suggestion? At the very least, maybe we can exchange real names and phone numbers so we can text at the festival. I'll start. I'm Diane and my phone number is 757-287-9871. If you guys want to do this but don't want to be so public, we could set up a PM group. I am getting very excited about t
  22. That was a fantastic interview. Boy, Spencer is not shy, is he?
  23. Thanks. New work plan being worked on. . .
  24. Hey, it just occurred to me that this is probably 2:00 Chicago time, right? So that would be 3:00 Eastern?
