  1. Tom Waits' "Take Care of All of My Children" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y1ehe3lsS3I but this one is the one I want played at my funeral:
  2. Very cool of the band to honour the couple on their wedding day. It's unfortunate that the groom couldn't see it without turning around, though.
  3. You can see some of the images in Corbijn's new book by clicking here: http://www.schirmer-mosel.com/corbijn/ (Click on Waits/Corbijn along the top)
  4. Me neither. For the record, all of my submissions are not for falling asleep to... they're for listening and enjoyment at night. The sunshine bores the daylights out of me, KP
  5. A thousand times, yes. I sure do miss Mark Sandman.
  6. Tom Waits' "Heart of Saturday Night" and "Nighthawks At The Diner" come to mind as two great night albums.
  7. The The — "Dusk" Sometimes I feel like there are 2 people in the world that listen to this album. Anyone else like it? I'm sure I'll think of like 1/2 dozen more later... tonight.
  8. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QA1Zy3qB53M I'm not in a band, but the mention of "paying gigs" made me want to post this. As you were, KP
  9. Fans of Tom Waits can expect to see a whole lot more of him in the upcoming book Waits/Corbijn - Photographs 1977-2010. A joint effort with Dutch photographer/director Anton Corbijn, the book is set to be released in October 2010. The book spans their 30-year relationship and features 200 iconic color and duotone portraits of Waits taken by Corbijn. While initially slated for an October 2009 release, it was pushed back a year, but for good reason. Publishers are adding a 49-page supplement of Waits' own images, writing, and lyrics from his songs. Editions will be available in English and Ger
  10. In conjunction with Hopscotch Music Festival (which will feature co-headliner Danny Perez (Panda Bear) of the Animal Collective) I saw that there will be a special screening of "Oddsac" at the Galaxy theatre in Cary, NC on Friday, Sept. 10, 3 p.m. It looks like a total mindf*ck of a movie, but hey, I'm game. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2H48VtETngA&feature=player_embedded More information on Screenings can be found here: www.oddsac.com.
  11. I've been seeing all you Beautiful People on Facebook and thought that perhaps this was a "Top Secret" LRS, since I hadn't seen a thread here til just this morning. Looks like you all had a great time in the basement. A question for the hosts: how in the World did you happen to score the door off a Chicago police cruiser? Is it really the last round for LRS? Say it ain't so...
  12. Oh, they know. Someone I used to know called Whole Foods "Whole Paycheck." Ask me about the name I have in my head for BB&T. (regional bank, for those unaware.)
  13. They were. Me and little brother had the Intellivision II console growing up. There was a voice module that came along later for certain games, such as B-17 bomber. It would say things like: "Bandits! 12 o'clock!" I loved that game.
  14. My brother had this exact toy when we were little. We abused the sh!t out of it. It's probably at the bottom of a sandbox somewhere in Asheboro, rusted to pieces.
  15. Where was this crapper located in the world?
  16. Interesting concept— media fasting. I would have to be on vacation before I could ever withdraw like that. (Like many of you, I'm sure, I work at a computer.) It's kind of sickening to think about how much this stuff infiltrates our waking life. It's insidious.
  17. Cacophony — sonic swirls swell and flutter in Nels' playground PS: I can count. The 5-7-5 "rule" is made to be broken.
  18. The last time I really listened to Springsteen's "Long Time Coming" I thought of my best friend who is now the father of two. These lines choke me up when I think about his personal situation: Not sure if that's the kind of sentiment you want to send in your mix... but part of parenthood is the waiting, esp. if this is to be a firstborn child. I can only imagine what it might feel like to carry a baby for 9 mos. but if I had to sum it up, it might feel like a "long time coming".
  19. Tom Waits — "Jack and Neal/California Here I Come"
  20. Love the lighting on this one! Looks as if light from heaven is shining down upon him. Good use of depth of field, too.
  21. The Smiths' "Cemetry Gates" (Keats and Yeats are on your side... while Wilde is on mine) Buckner's "The Hill" is a great, great choice. It made me pick up a copy of the Spoon River Anthology. I'd only read a few of the poems in school.
  22. Jerry-- Were you able to get all 6 signatures on your vanity plate? Will you actually be running said plate on your vehicle, or retiring the signed plate and getting a new one? Just curious. If I'd have gone through the trouble to sign it, I would have serious reservations about keeping it on the car. That's just me, though. Cheers! Kevin
  23. I tried calling you on Sunday, waiting for JT's set. It went straight to voicemail. Yeah, I gave my liver a pretty good workout over the weekend. We were camping, so breakfast was a couple of ice-cold Summerfest (poured into a Dixie cup, of course.)
  24. I think it's too early to worry. I want to ride this high a little longer, anyway... esp. when the boots start coming along. Cheers!
