65days, great idea for a thread, by the way.

I will never forget the first time I saw Casablanca. It was a wintery Sunday afternoon about five years ago. I was floored! That entire film from beginning to end is classic. One scene that always strikes me is when Rick is getting money out of the safe while talking to Capt. Renault and all you see is his shadow on the wall. I have a little tradition now where every year around Christmas time I will have a few glasses of brandy and watch Casablanca. I also really like Cuckoo's Nest, Maltese Falcon, and Easy Rider. I am sure there are a few that aren't coming to mind right now. I really want

Yeah, the search feature came in handy on this one! Thanks for all the great suggestions everyone. I am really enjoying "Kind Of Blue" right now. I realized my wife has several Miles albums in her collection. We have about 700 CD's between the two of us, so we are always finding new treats we didn't know about. I bet these would be amazing on vinyl............

Still takin' a break from rock and roll, haha, and following some suggestions I got in the jazz thread. My wife actually owns this album, and so far I am really enjoying it. Perfect lazy Sunday morning music with a cup of coffee.

I have been wanting to get into jazz for awhile, having heard bits here and there that I really liked, but I never knew where to start. I have an album "Billie Holiday:16 Most Requested Songs" and I absolutely adore it (Miss Brown To You and These Foolish Things are amazing songs), Coltrane's "Sun Ship" and Miles Davis' "Kind Of Blue", and I heard a song by Lena Horne on the radio a while ago that I really liked on a jazz program but I forget the title. I guess what I am after is some recommendations on the earlier vocal jazz, especially female singers. Any tips would be much appreciated. T

If you want to have your own copy, why not buy it here?

Yes, let me know how Bon Iver is live. My wife is going to see him in April in Fargo.

I may be wrong, but I think Subaru's are 80% front and 20% rear wheel drive, until there is slippage, and then it is 50/50.

Waiting 'til June is going to be agony! I am so pumped for this album. 14 new songs!

We went to the theater to see this last night, my wife for the second time and I for the first time. I tried to keep expectations reasonable, in the midst of all the hype. I liked it, but I think it's one that I will have to see again to truly digest. Daniel Day-Lewis is great, and visually it's very appealing as well. So at the theater we buy 2 drinks, some popcorn, and small bag of Gummi Bears....the total is almost $19! Ridiculous.

UncleSmog has now become Lynch. Not that creative, I know, but I like it. Short and punchy.

We have a '99 Subaru Outback and we love it. It drives awesome in snowy/ icy conditions and does fairly good on gas. Its also very comfortable, roomy, and reliable. On a sour note, my wife had a '96 Jetta before this and it was a LEMON!!!! She found out too late that '96 Jetta's are notorious for electrical problems and that was very true. The wipers would randomly come on or not work at all, alot of the interior lights didn't work, there was this loud alarm-like beeping noise sometimes. It was brought to many mechanics and no one could really pin down what was wrong with it. So yeah, you

My wife is really diggin' this album right now. Also, insideoutoflove, I think you may be one of my "neighbours" on last.fm....Weird. As for me, I have overdone it lately with the Clash, Joy Division, Rage Against The Machine etc.....need to slow things down a bit. This is a beautiful album.

Awesome! I will try to think of a new name. I will change it later, as my computer at work is a slow, piece of shit.......not that I am ever on here during work hours. Maybe inspiration will come to me tonight, when we see There Will Be Blood.

Does one of the mods have to do it for me? That would be alright. Now to come up with a new identity for myself..............

I don't like my handle. I must have been in a hurry when I signed up or something. A combination of Uncle Tupelo and Golden Smog. I wish I could have come up with something a little more clever than that. Oh well.

Mine is David Lynch, whose work as a writer and director I love, and who is generally just a fascinating character for me. My wife and I are making our way through Season 2 of Twin Peaks, and Gordon Cole (Lynch's character) just showed up. "COOPER, YOU REMIND ME TODAY OF A SMALL MEXICAN CHI-WOW-WOW." Also, this Youtube clip of his thoughts on product placement is gold (language warning)...

I am 99% sure that Waving Flags will end up on my top 5 songs of '08 list. So wish I could have seen it live.

Just wondering if anyone know of any good places on the web to find bass tabs. I bought my wife a bass and amp for Christmas a couple of years ago, and she is learning pretty quickly using tabs but has a hard time finding them. Anyone have some good sites? The bands she wants to learn are ones like Interpol, Pixies, My Morning Jacket, along those lines. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

I (vaguely) remember a few years ago my roommate and I went splits on a bottle (I think he paid around $80 for it). One evening, home alone, I got really drunk on absinthe and listened to techno all evening. I don't think it felt that much different than other booze, but I know I got really drunk in a hurry. Now since I quit smoking the taste of any hard liquor grosses me out, so I am a well-behaved coffee drinker.

My wife and I went the IMAX on the weekend and saw both the Sea Monsters and the Safari 3D shows, and both were very cool. During Sea Monsters there were several times where I actually moved my head out of the way as the fish were swimming by. The double feature was $12 a person, well worth it.

Who are your favorite bands from your home state?
Lynch replied to remphish1's topic in Someone Else's Song
My favorite band from my home state/province are the Weakerthans. John K. Samson's great lyrics and wonderful songs! I am really liking their newest album "Reunion Tour" as well. -
I missed the SNL performance. Something went screwy with my VCR so it didn't tape. Guess I will check 'em out on Youtube.

One of the first conversations my wife and I ever had when we first met was about going to see this movie in Winnipeg. It would have been our first date, but she ended having to work. I still have the little poster she gave me advertising it in the theater.
