  1. if anyone in eastern MA is looking for a copy, i saw one @ the Peabody location of Newbury Comics yesterday.
  2. no women mentioned yet? Thalia Zedek/Chris Brokaw (Come) one of THEE best guitar bands ever. and Guy Kyser/Roger Kunkel (Thin White Rope) also deserve a mention.
  3. Thurston Moore / Lee Ranaldo [sonic Youth] Adam Franklin / Jimmy Hartridge [swervedriver] Robyn Hitchcock / Kimberley Rew [soft Boys] also contenders Peter Koppes / Marty Willson-Piper [The Church] Stuart Braithwaite / John Cummings [Mogwai] KK Downing / Glenn Tipton [Judas Priest]
  4. he did some readings from his book, too. really fun evening. more: http://narlus.zenfolio.com/p423561013
  5. which is why surprises like MoBurma, Polvo, Dino Jr, are so great. most bands should be able to reasonably pull off a live show after years of inactivity.
  6. oh, and Camper van Beethoven as well. _New Roman Times_ wasn't too bad, and the live show was excellent. good to see Segal back w/ them (though Morgan was far cuter).
  7. PiL was pretty solid a couple of nights ago. The Stooges can still bring the rock show, live, but _The Weirdness_ wasn't very good. Harmonia was downright excellent when i saw them in 2008.
  8. for me, a true comeback means that new material is also part of the equation...the Pixies fall short, though their Doolittle show was pretty decent. i only saw 'em once back in the day, but the live show was good. The Jesus Lizard violates my self-imposed constraint, but hot damn were they awesome last year. saw 'em twice, and they SLAYED just like in '92.
  9. add Wire to the list as well. the last record is pretty decent, and though they don't have Bruce Gilbert in the current lineup.
  10. Polvo - In Prism after a 12 year hiatus, they put out their finest record. well done. Mission of Burma though the newer one isn't as strong, I can find no fault with ONoffON or especially The Obliterati, both excellent records. and the live show is still so exhilirating. Dinosaur Jr the band is definitely different w/ Lou and Murph back in it, and Beyond and Farm rival anything they'd done previously. edit - Todd, the 2006 records from Buzzcocks (Flat Pack Philosophy) is quite good as well. I'll be doing a phone interview w/ Steve in a few hours, and am looking forward to seeing them
  11. a good friend of mine has put on two of these shows at his place...Wreckless Eric in '06 and The Renderers last year.
  12. David Bazar did one last year as well, iirc.
  13. there was no cd included. just four fabulous slabs of black vinyl.
  14. here's another one (Stiff Little Fingers - At The Edge)
  15. the part in 'Theologians' when Jeff sings "No one's ever gonna take my life from me/I lay it down" always gives me shivers. the gentle slide parts in 'Poor Places' after Jeff sings "his jaw's been broken/his bandage is wrapped too tight"
  16. who replaced him? i am fairly sure that he was on drums for both the '07 and '08 tours i saw. in a strange coincidence, i was just reminded about a dream i had last night, about meeting neil's ex-accountant who was fired due to differences of opinion.
  17. yeah, i meant that that the last time i saw Neil w/ CH was then. missed the Greendale tours when i was overseas.
  18. i'd love to see Neil w/ Crazy Horse again....i think the last time was on the 'don't spook the horse' tour in '90/'91. seeing as though Molina's been playing drums w/ Neil, i guess the malcontents are Talbot and/or Sampedro?
  19. best one off the top of my head: The Clash - I'm Not Down
  20. at least you didn't use 'oeuvre' is this gonna turn into another thread where people argue over word definitions? that was fun(ny).
  21. i now realize that i responded to a pretty old thread, but what makes it not part of the 'canon'? it's part of their body of work; hell, even b sides or unreleased live songs would be fair game in that definition, i'd think.
  22. the OT session of Bruins/Flyers was likely the best one i've ever seen. great game.
