  1. http://www.uncut.co.uk/news/richard-thompson-announces-new-album-produced-by-jeff-tweedy-66506 Not much new, except a month for release - June.
  2. "Lola", The Kinks, 1983. They played it about 6-8 songs in. There could have been a great song before that, but my memory fails me.
  3. I agree - the draw for the first three Solid Sound Festivals was Wilco. Everything else has been gravy. I don't think too many people paid $100 plus in 2013 to see Os Mutantes play for 60 minutes (or any other band there, even Yo La Tengo). People go because they like Wilco. Maybe SS4 will be different, with an MMJ-type as a Sunday headliner. I think we have our headliners, though - Wilco, Wilco, and Tweedy/Jeff solo/Tweedy and friends (maybe the Tweedy etc. comes on Sunday before a bigger act?). Sprinkle in the comedians already announced, Richard Thompson, Bill Frisell, Real Estate, Cibo Mat
  4. Happy Anniversary! It is mine, too - that show was my first Wilco show as well. Loved the hard-edged version of Someone Else's Song they did back then. I walked out of that show slack-jawed. I had never seen anything like it.
  5. I am loving "Who Were You Thinking Of", "True Love Will Find You in the End", and the alternate take of "Airline to Heaven". "Who Were You Thinking Of" captures the energy and exuberance of their early days.
  6. Just shoveled 4+ feet off the deck to get ready for tonight's storm. Forecast was for 12-16"; it is now down to 8-12". Thankful for the small blessings in life.
  7. I think the thread title answers the question.
  8. I loved Foxygen's set at SS3 - I thought they were one of the highlights of the festival. Love that they got footage of the security guy taking the singer off the staging. I am really looking forward to the film.
  9. I'd be surprised if The Replacements play SS4, too. The fan bases are a good match, but they seem to be a bigger act than SS has gotten in the past. I think the same of MMJ. Levon Helm, MMW, Mavis, Yo La Tengo - that is about as big as it has been for other acts at past Solid Sounds, and that ain't all that big.
  10. I read that Tom Petty will get a Grammy certificate, similar to other artists whose work is sampled on Grammy-winning songs. He does not get a Grammy Award, though, because he took no active role in the songwriting process for this particular song.
  11. ^^^^Agree. Much of the song falls into this category for me.
  12. But he was the lizard king. He could do anything.
  13. I decided not to pay to see Son Volt or Jay again after seeing Son Volt twice in the mid-90s. You hit the nail on the head. Fine studio work. Live show has no visual/sonic energy. I can put 20 Son Volt songs together from 4 or 5 of their albums on a playlist and play them as I drive around town running errands, and it is significantly more entertaining than going to see Son Volt play those same 20 songs.
  14. I thought this, too, especially as it is close to a regular Tweedy show format. If Tweedy/Jeff solo/Tweedy and friends closes out Sunday, it will continue the laid back vibe on Sunday that the past SS's have had (or at least the last two that I attended - can't speak for the first SS).
  15. I was just looking at our back deck with one of my daughters, and it looks a lot like twoshedsjackson's. We are up around 2 feet. Felt like 3 feet shoveling it, though.
  16. Just got this over the weekend. It will be great to play for those who do not know the band's music well. I like their choices overall. Three songs from each of the last three albums makes sense to me, with more from BT, ST, and YHF. Seems pretty fair to each album.
  17. 150 days.........or 5 months if that sounds better.
  18. One for the year is great. And we can rename it "What Pop Todd is Now Playing." And I don't mean that in a snarky way. I like seeing what Pop Todd is listening to. And secretly wondering how he fits so much music into his day. He is an inspiration!
