  1. What an intense show. I have to be careful about watching it right before bed because, as you suggest, that dark weirdness seeps in...
  2. I have to admit the (gut-wrenching, heart-breaking, truly terrible) possibility crossed my mind when Sue's health problem surfaced. Definitely a worst-case scenario...
  3. I'm thick into The Goldfinch right now, and completely under its spell. Haven't been so intrigued by a novel in many months!
  4. Does Pandora count? This morning I was out for a brisk walk in the bright sun (yay! Florida in February!) and the Pandora station i set up was playing mostly 80s punk/hardcore, something to spur me onward. Then, seemingly out of nowhere comes a live version of Ashes. I heard the audience whooping and hollering before the unmistakeable opening guitar notes, and I remember thinking, "whatever this song is, the audience is completely psyched." Then when i realized what it was, it was like a revelation. So, so intensely powerful. Partly the unexpectedness of it, partly the contrast between it
  5. GREAT setlist! You're sure to make Wilco fans happy, and maybe make some new ones, too. edit: I like the Shins as much as the next person, but this is going to be a massacre! Wilco! Wilco! Wilco!
  6. So sorry to hear this rotten news. Sending love and healing thoughts to Sue and the whole family.
  7. Agree -- loved that book. Gun is UT, with Jeff singing. Don't remember if she refers to Son Volt at all.
  8. Country Disappeared. Gorgeous song-- seemingly not requested much and rarely played.
  9. Yes, that role as Scotty J. In Boogie Nights sealed the deal for me. This really, really sucks.
  10. You're damn right! None of this "I do the laundry when you're not home" or some such bullshit!
  11. I'm with Wilco Me on this one! That lyric totally works in that song. Although I don't think I'm a Wheel is stupid. It's sexy as hell!
  12. How was it? They remain one of my all-time faves. The last time I saw them play, two years ago, they totally ripped it up. All of them in great form -- my expectations were kind of low, cuz well, they are getting on in years for the pace of their music. But their show was high-energy and awesome. Heard they're touring without Laura these days though, which is sure to cause some broken hearts.
  13. Yeah, it was funny watching those people feign polite interest, when most of us on this board would trade our left nut for a chance to hear Jeff sing Pecan Pie from 5 feet away.
  14. When I first heard Sea Change, it was like finding my missing twin-- someone I already knew somehow. Then it got too sad and beautiful to listen to. I think that means I really like it.
  15. . Respectfully request to switch out Wishful Thinking with Company in My Back! And change the order to end with Muzzle. Either of these and I would happily expire of Wilco bliss.
  16. Now I have queso envy. North Florida isn't particularly known for its regional cuisine. The fried shrimp and hush puppies are pretty good, though!
  17. Double yum to okra pickles-- with a couple pickled green beans in a spicy Bloody Mary! It's like two servings of vegetables with your vodka. Everybody wins!
  18. Made this queso the other night... It was great, but I still don't see what's so wrong with melting a brick of Velveeta, throwing in a can of Ro-Tel spicy tomatoes, and diving in!
  19. I love that green frog t-shirt! My Secret Santa at work gave me a Wilco t-shirt that, alas, I already had, and I plan to get myself the green frog tee post-haste!
