It's a disappointing album. Boring would be my one word description. I get that I've been with the band since 1995, but why would anyone listen to this beyond a few listens instead of putting on Ghost, Yankee, BT or AM?? It's Jeff's worst vocal performance. There are very very few melodies and choruses which are always appreciated in my book (I love Warm and Warmer and they didn't have much in that regard either, but it is more missing here in a full band context.) It's basically On Fillmore + Jeff Tweedy featuring 2 appearances by guitar virtuoso Nels Cline and textures by Mikael Jorgensen.

Ha. That might have been a different looking music video... -
I read that as Sammy's fav was Ghost. Found the Chipotle stuff very funny.

Wilco — 18 September 2019, Zurich, Switzerland (Volkshaus)

I came very close to be able to attend this show and would have loved to take in the bbop love. Thanks for your writing on this tour bbop. Enjoying them each day... -
Could be. Last time they played Chicago it was 4 shows at Chicago Theater. Tickets were cheaper then. They performed 106 songs over the 4 nights with 49 unique songs. That's not bad for mixing it up.

me either! is this new news? Seems almost like revisionist history!

Looks like some more openers for US shows have been announced. The Bottle Rockets in St. Louis is cool! Shall we start a campaign for Wilco to play AM front to back?! What better place to do so?? Also seeing Solid Sound alums Deep Sea Diver for MI, PA, VA, OH, IN, KY shows and Dickie (who had an album produced by Pat) for Cedar Rapids.

Amazing to me that any show at Rosemont Horizon could be released commercially in any format given its horrendous acoustics.

Oh yes, the Brotherly Love Tour. Don't forget opener Spacehog (also with brothers). This should have been a great bill, but it was a lackluster evening in Chicagoland anyway.

Wasn't it odd that it was/is actually called 'As the Crow Flies' - without the e on the end of crow?? I sort of wondered if somebody made a mistake. Marcus didn't play the last couple gigs though. The band with him had a lot of potential but was not gelling when I saw them...

I haven't seen the story on this other than it happened. Are there details somewhere?
-
Darin doesn't mention playing in Tweedy or with Jeff in the bio used for last night's gig. https://ess.org/esscalendar/option-daringray

Damn. I really enjoyed what he brought to Chris and Ryan's music.

We're in new territory setlist-wise for a show billed as 'Jeff Tweedy' - one Wilco song played at the end. Pretty interesting. I wonder if most concert goers were expecting the Wilco catalog to be ignored.
-
I think it got cancelled because of the weather evacuation, but Jeff was to record an episode of the Talkhouse podcast with Cate Le Bon in the middle of Saturday's festival this year. Hopefully they ended up recording it anyway somewhere...
-
Cynical take on this is that Jeff agreed to appear at their festival so they featured his song.
-
Jeff Tweedy could not be more comfortable. How dare Wilco fans want the band to challenge themselves by changing up the setlist.

I dunno either but this feels like a great opportunity for Lotti to make some recommendations.

Cate Le Bon! Lots of great Pitchfork aftershows tonight. Wish there were good ones tomorrow too.

Clear! A Ghost is Born is kinda a Jorgensen record, right? I guess O'Rourke too/mostly though. 'Unlikely Japan' is a great track that gives me an idea what you are looking for. Would be awesome. WilcoBook has more MJ stuff too?
-
This is so confusing. You are pushing back on the notion that Wilco has been dry with rockers since AGIB by saying that 1 of their 2 most recent album was consistently a rocker? Besides Schmilco each album has at least a few.
-
Ha. You got me there. Autobiography. I stand corrected. Now for a new thread: "Whose biography would you like to see Jeff Tweedy write" I'll go with Jim O'Rourke
-
Plus he wrote a biography
