  1. This clever banter warms the cockles of my heart. (Not really - I just wanted an excuse to use the word cockles.)
  2. Couple of interesting little interview segments from Jerry on their first trip to Europe in 1970: https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/jerry-garcia-altamont-hells-angels-unreleased-interview-755843/
  3. Zappa - One Size Fits All, Side 1 Joe's Garage, Side 1 Dylan - Highway 61 Revisited, Side 2 Blood on the Tracks, Side 1 Floyd - The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, Side 2 (U.K. release) Wish You Were Here, Side 2
  4. My God, what a rude, terrible person. Asshole. Definitely an enemy of the state. That Jim Acosta fellow wasn’t very polite either.
  5. Oh, hell, if you saw EJ in his prime, that would be the best. I never even got to catch him until the Elton/Billy tour in 2002. I have seen Elton several times since then, and every show was great, but his voice is pretty shot compared to his younger years (whereas Sir Paul still sounds relatively amazing). If I hadn't caught Elton four or five more times between 2002-2014, I'd feel I have to see him...but like yourself, I'm good.
  6. Anyone make it to one of these Elton shows on the current tour? I’d be curious to learn how much of the show differed from previous experiences.

  8. Picked up the 2/22/69 Dream Bowl show via eBay, and am listening now. Probably my favorite Dupree’s > Mountains > Dark Star ever, and it sounds pretty spectacular on my (very basic) home stereo.
  9. I can’t believe Roxy Music hasn’t already gotten in. That’s messed up.
  10. Man, that Cowboys game was brutal. At least the Vikings beat the Eagles.
  11. Oh my God. I almost envy you having that experience so recently. I think the first time I listened to A Love Supreme was in 1990. Been working my way through all my Coltrane CDs in chronological order. I have pretty much everything, although there are a couple minor albums I only have in digital format. I've come to the conclusion that I still love the "classic quartet" the most by a long shot, and that most of the material that came after Tyner and Jones left is not enjoyable to listen to. It's interesting, it's intense, but it rarely swings. A fair bit of it is just unlistenable, especi
  12. Here's the only "positive" news I could get out of the past few days. It ain't pretty, but I guess it's better than nothing: https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2018/10/brett-kavanaugh-confirmation-constitutional-crisis.html
  13. Man, after watching that video, I love Jeff more than I did before. It would never occur to me to yell out ANY politician's name in response to a request for "affirmations" between songs. Guy was a douchebag, and deserved what he got (he got lambasted on Twitter for playing the victim, too). Jeff was wrong about one thing, though: they didn't pick Kavanaugh just out of cruelty. They picked him because he's a partisan hack who has zero integrity, and will rule in 45's favor if criminal charges come his way. They probably couldn't find that many actual judges with that little integrity. To J
  14. Such a sad day for America. In some ways I feel like many of us are getting re-traumatized, like it's 2016 all over again. I mean, I grew up in CT, and everyone I knew from that Tri-state area (CT, NY & NJ) knew that this guy was a piece of shit thirty years ago. Now he's been president almost two fucking years, and look what's happening. I even name-checked him in my first novel (thinly disguising it as "Duncan Scrump") as an example of a rich person whose name would one day become a curse word - as in "Scrump You." And the first draft of that was in 1991! If the Dems win in November,

  16. According to the Rolling Stone article, there's a 13-minute take of Helter Skelter - so that's pretty good, right?
  17. This is good news. Now he just needs to do his first-ever solo shows in Southwest Florida. I mean, since freaking Victoria, British Columbia is getting one, I'd say he's due to make it down here. I recommend February or March.
  18. My very first Dead show: 9/23/82. Thirty-six years ago today. That's kind of hard to believe. https://archive.org/details/gd1982-09-23.sbd.miller.108973.flac16 Alabama Getaway-> Greatest Story Ever Told, Peggy-O-> Little Red Rooster, Tennessee Jed, Mama Tried-> Mexicali Blues, Althea, Let It Grow Touch Of Gray-> Lost Sailor-> Saint Of Circumstance-> Ship of Fools, Throwing Stones-> Drums-> The Wheel-> The Other One-> Wharf Rat-> Around & Around-> Johnny B.
