  1. Over the weekend we binge watched Fleabag (on Amazon) and Crazyhead (Netflix). Both were very enjoyable.
  2. Ashes of Bethlehem I'll Fight Ye, Merry Gentlemen Up On and On and On the Rooftop I Might Be Home for Christmas Here Comes Santa Claus, the Unwelcome Guest
  3. Me, too, but it's highly unlikely he'll play. Steve Howe says Bill hasn't touched a drumstick in nine years and has no intention of ever performing again.
  4. Contrary to my prediction back in August, I'm liking this less the more I listen. Drunk Drivers/Killer Whales is not a very good song. It's surprising that it has become the key track. There are better songs on this record. Maybe they could still win me over if I ever see them live.
  5. Pot, etc. You You You You You You You You You You You You
  6. Jesus is Trying to Break Your Kamera
  7. This year I went to: Juneau, Skagway, and Ketchikan, AK Carcross, Yukon Territory Santa Fe and Albuquerque (and surrounding areas), NM Cape San Blas, FL Washington DC Wilmington, DE Philadelphia, PA Seattle, WA Next year I have the following lined up: Amsterdam & Paris in Spring Richmond, VA to see PJ Harvey Detroit, MI to see Nick Cave (and to cross another state I've never visited off the list) I was going to go to Red Rocks in May for Tom Petty, but our travel schedule is getting full and my dog is sick of being boarded, so for all of our sakes I scrapped that idea.
  8. I heard the execrable Blinded By The Light by the Manfred Mann Earth Band before hearing Springsteen's original.
  9. I saw this before I ever heard the Jackson Browne original. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1vxQs84FMWQ
  10. Stop that Train - Peter Tosh A Passage to Bangkok - Rush
  11. Last of the Steam Powered Trains - Kinks It Takes a lot to Laugh, It Takes a Train to Cry - Bob Dylan City of New Orleans - Steve Goodman 5:15 - The Who Click Clack - Captain Beefheart Hey Porter - Johnny Cash Big Train - Mike Watt (might not be the original artist)
  12. I heard Anthrax do Got the Time before the Joe Jackson original.
  13. I first heard Widespread Panic versions of Send Your Mind (Van Morrison) and Travelin' Light (JJ Cale) before the originals. Speaking of JJ Cale, I first heard Cocaine done by Clapton and Call Me the Breeze done by Skynyrd, And speaking of Van Morrison, I heard Jackie Wilson Said first by Dexy's Midnight Runners, courtesy of The Young Ones.
  14. Omni Big Thief I'm sure there are more, but those are the first that come to mind.
  15. I have mixed feelings about this. I don't like to see the singer who wrote the lyrics reading lyrics. I find that lazy, and it generally makes for a less engaging performance. (With exceptions for people with long careers and lengthy songbooks, or people subbing on the gig). On the other hand, nobody scoffs at a jazz combo or an orchestra reading off of sheet music. I see no difference between the two. Why should a rock or pop singer be expected to memorize their music, but jazz and classical musicians have sheet music and far more training almost without exception, but they aren't e
  16. Quiet, you're getting Grover Norquist aroused.
  17. My guitarist friend and I got together this weekend to jam. We played a bunch of NY&CH songs. Powderfinger, Fuckin' Up, Cinnamon Girl, Hey Hey My My. Those songs are easy and fun as shit to play on drums. It also gave me an opportunity to try singing backup parts while playing, which is something I've never done. Fortunately I did not have a vocal mic so I got to imagine it sounding good, rather than hearing it sound terrible.
  18. I blame Trump's "I Alone" speech at the RNC for this.
  19. Benmont Echoes sounds like the name of an upper middle class subdivision.
  20. I wonder how many pages we'll be up to before someone admits they first heard In the Street on That '70s Show.
  21. Same here. Long before. I heard Power Station's Get it On (Bang a Gong) before the T. Rex original.
  22. I heard Ram Jam's Black Betty before the original, which Leadbelly usually gets credit for, but the original author may be lost to history.
  23. Thinking about taking a trip to Colorado for this. It'd be a double bucket list event: visiting a state I've never been to, and seeing a show at Red Rocks. I've only seen TP once, and that was on the Echo tour.
