  1. In addition to the covers they did the first night, they also played "Paint It Black" (which they obviously covered on the Crazy Rhythms record) and an instrumental by, I think they said, Jonathan Richman (though I definitely could be wrong about that). I'm sure I'm leaving something else out, another Velvets cover maybe. Anyway, I personally enjoyed the version of Patti Smith's "Dancing Barefoot" that they reprised from Night 1. In terms of Feelies material, they played similar (although not identical) sets to the first night -- ending the first set with "Crazy Rhythms" and the second with
  2. They did play two sets. Went on about 9:20 p.m. and finished the first set at about 10:05. Then took about a half-hour break before coming back for the second set, plus two encores. They did play a couple of new songs, which sounded really good. As you could see from the tape, the second set featured a lot of covers (which was fine by me). "She Said She Said," which they actually recorded, I believe, sounded great, as did "Barstool Blues."
  3. I went last night and am headed there again tonight. It was my first time seeing them, of course, since I was about 12 when they last played. And while I can't say I had a nostalgic love affair with them like many of the other people (dudes, mostly) there last night, they were pretty damn great to see live. The quote in the NY Times piece about their old manager wondering if they'd explode on stage was very apt. And maybe it's just the tiny size of the room (or the fact that I was standing directly in front of the stack at stage left), but they were loud! I spotted Craig Finn of the Hold S
  4. Happy belated Canada Day, Judy and Tualla and other wonderful Canadians! Hope it was a spectacular one... Can we get a YouTube clip of Hinterland Who's Who, or something Judy?
  5. Sorry I missed you, man. Check yr PMs.
  6. They must be playing indoors at Stubb's. I can't imagine them playing the big outdoor stage since it's 1) huge and 2) surely going to be hot as hell.
  7. Damn, that is a shock. He did always seem to be the voice of reason in a way, especially with the turbulent elections in 2000 and 2004. That's a shame.
  8. Has anyone? (I kid, I kid.) I'm sure they'll be playing Jones Beach soon enough.
  9. FYI, it seemed to work fine using a Mac. And Mart, Evonne's gonna be in town June 20-21, I think. I think you guys have a private gig June 21, but correct me if I'm wrong...
  10. This might be the best post ever (and by best, I mean.....not best). Spam?
  11. Cool! Great that you made it to see Mart, and that you decided to go talk to him too. He's about the nicest guy you could meet and his all-original shows are fantastic. Did you stay for the "headlining" set by ex-Spin Doctors frontman Chris Barron, by any chance? Matt, next you've got to make it to one of the Campfire shows at Slane (Tuesdays), Prohibition (Wednesdays) or the Red Lion (Sundays)!
  12. It's on the calendar! Have a great show this weekend, Dave! Can't wait to see you guys.
  13. Yo yo Martino! Hope you have a great day! I know it got off to a good start, anyway...mmm crepes. Here's hoping those Metropolitans turn it around for you!
  14. i think it's already taken... seriously, though, i hope the drive back wasn't too painful. it was *great* to see you guys!

  18. Yeah, I mean looking over the setlist, I realize that I've seen most of those songs played live. But kind of in the same spirit as the Wilco Residency, to have them tackle those two albums as complete albums, played live in their intended sequence, would really have been something. Now if they ever do The River in complete form, fuhgeddaboutit. That would be tremendous. Seems like Danny Federici's death has really spurred something in Bruce these last couple of weeks. I mean, I don't know that they weren't already planning on doing Darkness and BtR for this benefit before Danny passed, but
  19. This would have been some show to be at, it sounds like...Damn. Those who were lucky enough to see Wilco at the Count Basie in Red Bank last summer know that place isn't that big. I know there's some Bruce fans here... From the recap on Backstreets: May 7 / The Count Basie Theatre / Red Bank, NJ Notes: Ah, the stuff that dreams are made of... or at least the stuff that fan rap sessions are made of: "They should do the Darkness album start to finish!" Well, they just did. And it wasn't just a Darkness 30th anniversary celebration -- they tackled the full Born to Run album in order, too
  20. A much bigger venue than last night in Bozeman, but I thought it didn't detract from the show as much as other big (basketball arena-esque) venues I've been to. Given the size of the place, I was impressed that they did Reservations. Nice variety in songs for people who got to see both of the Montana shows. Minutiae for nerds: -Jeff (no hat tonight) dedicated Jesus to a "67-year-old woman" who blew past him as he was walking up the 'M' trail earlier in the day. He said she didn't appear to even break a sweat. -On the "I'll check the phone again" part in Hate It Here, Pat pulled out a toy ph
  21. I believe his first show was at the Murat Room in Indianapolis on 7/19/02.
  22. A fun one. Nice to see some good VC representation at the show. I can see why it sold out so quickly. It was not a big place. I think someone said it used to be the auditorium for the elementary school that used to occupy the building. Wacky! One of the looser Hoodoo Voodoos I've ever seen. A good crowd overall. I thought we might get a third encore for a second there; the house lights didn't come up for a long while. Someone who saw a printed setlist told me that Dreamer on My Dreams was listed as that theoretical third encore, which would have been awesome, but it was not to be. Still, the
