gogo
I never realized the seriousness of this book. Think Harper Lee drew a little inspiration from Betty Smith?I always thought of it as a children's book, but I re-read it last year, and yeah... damn.

jahilia
Oh, I've been meaning to read that one for years, but still haven't picked it up! I really wish that I hadn't just this second come back from the book store. It's a great book, but if you do read it, set aside at least a couple of weeks for it. I'm a fairly quick reader, but this book is a real commitment. It's totally worth it though.

Reni
my grandmother read A Tree Grows in Brooklyn to my mom when she was very sick in the hospital as as a child.....and my mom did the same for me when I was in the hospital after a surgery. Sadly, I don't remember much of it. I almost picked it up on the sale table last month. Maybe I should think about revisiting it.......

explodo
That books is incredible if you give it the time, but your smile certainly describes it pretty accurately.
bjorn_skurj
In-fucking-credible. The recipient of this smile hurried off with it as if it were a fatal gift. He was so shaken that he felt compelled to flee the light of the terrace and front garden and hastily sought the obscurity of the rear grounds. Oddly indignant and tender admonitions welled up inside him: "You musn't smile like that! One musn't smile like that at anyone, do you hear?" He flung himself on a bench, frantically inhaling the plants' nocturnal fragrance. Then, leaning back, arms dangling, overwhelmed and shuddering repeatedly, he whispered the standard formula of longing - impossible here, absurd, perverse, ridiculous and sacred nonetheless, yes, still venerable even here: "I love you!" Attack With Love
Been reading this on and off. 'twas recommended by Tweedy himself! can tell by the title... NR:my summer reading for my english class next year...wasn't looking too forward to it, but it's a great travel memoir and somehow makes you jealous of the woman's experiences so secluded and sparse. captures a lot of beauty about a country i really didn't know much about. Reni
I finished Prep - which is a really good read. It is amazing how well she describes the feelings and thoughts of adolescent angst. There were moments where I thought, "other people have thought that?? wow." Now, I am reading this....got it for my birthday...... I expect to have it finished by tomorrow.....it is wonderful......wonderful!

Reni
I have I Am Legend.....bought it after hearing a bit on NPR with some staff at Powells talking about what they thought was the scariest book ever written. The consensus was that it was I Am Legend. I started it, but never finished it.....I didn't get far into it. I should give it another go.
