Favorite Phrases

Recommended Posts

One of my favorite things about Wilco is the way Jeff can turn a phrase. So what are some of your favorite lyrical moments from Wilco?

I'll start with my favorite (so far/right now) from SBS (as evidence by my username):

I'm this apple

This happening stone

When I'm alone

I'm sorry--I'm new here and put "lyrics" into the search engine but didn't see a specific thread. Go ahead and delete--sorry if I annoyed all of you. I'm just enthusiastic about finding this site and "talking" with other Wilco fans.

I have bunches of favorites but for the moment I'll go with these particular bits of Summer Teeth:

Like a cloud his fingers explode

On the typewriter ribbon, the shadow grows

.........

and..........

........

One summer, a suicide

Another autumn, a traveler's guide

He hits snooze twice before he dies

i'm new too, and still discovering tweedy lyrics that knock my sox off, so am happy to see a thread like this.

there are so many, but for tonight i have to go with:

you are not my typewriter but you could be my demon moving forward through flaming doors

indeed...

Just climb aboard

The tracks of a train's arm

In my fragile family tree

picking apples for the kings and queens

of things I've never seen

You learn so slow, old radiant beauty

I'll curve my flight

You're like a moon that's full

Across a sea of foam

I'm the sky you've been burning

As everyone here already knows... there are so many to choose from but here are 2 favorites

"You're gonna make me spill my beer if you don't learn how to steer..."

"And the first thing that you want will be the last thing you ever need, that's how you fight it..."

a cheap sunset on a television set could upset her

shine your teeth til meaningless

As your spine starts to shine

You shiver at your soul

A fist so clear and climbing

Punches a hole

In the sky

So you can see

For yourself

If you don't believe me

i'm still sticking with:

disposable dixie cup drinker

i assasin down the avenue

although, i have a new hankering for this one:

i have no idea how this happens, all of my maps have been overthrown

happenstance has changed my plans so many times my heart has been outgrown
