Analogman
10/11/07 Yes folks, we finally have a release date and a title for Gary's first solo album. Mark February 19 on your calenders (you do have a 2008 calender I hope!). Vagabonds will be released on Rykodisc. Also Gary's management has put up a MySpace site. Check it out for album songs as the release date gets closer. In other news Gary guested at the Mpls Wilco show last night. 10/06/07 Jayhawks production notes: The Sadies new album New Seasons was co-produced with Gary Louris. Gary also contributes backing vocals throughout the album and guitar on one track. Stephen McCarthy produced the new Sara Arthur album. He writes... I just produced a singer from my hometown and her name is SaraArthur. The CD is entitled Talk of the Town and she sings a number ofmy songs on the disc. It is not a rock record but more in the styleof lounge/pop/country. We just played a concert with our localsymphony and it was a thrill to hear a full orchestra playing one ofmy songs. If you're interested her CD is available through herwebsite and should be on itunes before long. http://www.myspace.com/sararthur 09/03/07 An update from Gary Louris on his solo album and various other Jayhawks related projects... It was decided to wait until late January for the release of my solorecord. With the climate of the music business and the fact that Iam not a household name it was deemed best to give my record it's bestshot by not trying to compete against all the big boys in lateFall/X-mas. And because of other mitigating circumstances it wasjust the best for the record to wait, even though I always swore Iwouldn't hold a record.... I am still very excited about the Olson/Louris record and can't wait toget that out too, but again it will have to wait until a few monthsafter my record. Mark and I have been talking and we are both ready, willing and able to tour together on that release. Again, as one ofmy least favorite artists once said: "The waiting is the hardestpart." I have also been told that the multi-tracks of the proposed Jayhawkslive record have finally been released by Rick Rubin to the people atLost Highway.. These need to be looked at again and remixed for apossible summer release. There is also the usual talk of the first(Bunkhouse) record being released in conjunction with the live one.On top of that I have found that a respected filmmaker/friend of theband's has a ton of old Jayhawks film footage dating back to '86 so Iam hoping we will be able to get some of that on one of thesereleases.... There is also the plan to release a "greatest hits" and odds and endsdisc of Golden Smog by Rhino next year. So you can see there are a lotof "plans"....now we need to get them out there and in your hands...Iknow it is the usual waiting game but I am doing everything I can topush it along.... In the meantime...get everyone and their uncle out to see Mark Olson as hisrecord is amazing and the band is fantastic... Sincerely,Gary

mjpuczko
So, Gary doesn't like Tom Petty? i hope he wasn't serious.
JUDE
Yeah well if Tom Petty stole your riff for Last Dance with Mary Jane you might be a little bitter too.
Smokestack Joe
i thought that quote was funny. The Jayhawks opened for Petty in Minneapolis at an arena show circa Tomorrow The Green Grass era and when they chopped into Waiting For The Sun the crowd wents nuts thinking it was Petty playing Mary Jane's Last Dance. Analogman
Well, they did have George Drakoulis/Rick Rubin both working with them.
Calexico
Waiting patiently for the Louris record. Tom Petty...everything sounds the same all the time.
Analogman
Jayhawks Principals Ready New AlbumMark Olson and Gary LourisFebruary 22, 2008, 11:00 AM ETWes Orshoski, N.Y. While the Jayhawks may me be no more, the lauded Americana band's formerly estranged principals Gary Louris and Mark Olson have finished a new album together, their first since the 1995 Jayhawks classic "Tomorrow the Green Grass." Titled "Ready for the Flood," the album was produced by Black Crowes singer Chris Robinson, who also helmed Louris' new solo debut, "Vagabonds," released earlier this week on Ryko. "Ready for the Flood" was recorded in Los Angeles in January 2007, but Louris and Olson decided to delay its release, to prevent it detracting from their respective new solo releases. Hacktone Records issued Olson's "The Salvation Blues" in June. "We're hoping it will come out either in the summer or the fall," Louris says of "Ready for the Flood." "It's taken a backseat to his solo record and my solo record. I'm not really sure if we're putting it out ourselves or if we're going to get a label involved. It's great. I love it -- we did it in eight days." Explaining why Robinson was the right producer for the project, Louris tells Billboard.com, "We needed someone who was a bit of a fan, who could guide us through this kind of an emotional record, and Chris just came to mind. We trusted him, and we knew he would handle the music with care. We knew that he would bring to the project what we needed: confidence, decisiveness and vibey-ness." The process went so well that Louris asked Robinson to produce "Vagabonds," which features backup vocals from Rilo Kiley's Jenny Lewis and Susanna Hoffs of the Bangles. For the band's first decade, the Jayhawks were defined by the harmonizing and the co-writing of Olson and Louris. But Olson departed following the band's tour behind "Tomorrow the Green Grass," widely considered the band's best album. The two didn't work together again until October 2001, when they convened at Olson's then-home in Joshua Tree, Calif., to write a group of songs for the 2002 film "The Rookie." While they were never used in the film (one appeared on Olson's 2002 album "December's Child"), that session eventually led to a series of live shows over the past few years, and eventually "Ready for the Flood." "I think it was one of the better experiences in my life," Louris says of those shows with Olson. "Just the fact that you had this close working relationship with somebody that went sour, and you kind of didn't talk for a number of years, and you had pretty much given it up. To then get a second chance here as friends and collaborators is pretty great. By touring, we got to know each other again, and to this day, now, we're just good of friends as we ever were." Louris begins his inaugural U.S. solo tour March 16 in Seattle.

Col. Hapablap
It apparently has leaked. It's not in wide circulation yet, but there is an invite-only music torrent site, which thanks to a friend, i belong to, that has it. I have just finished downloading it from there now.
