glad to see that the writers are only going to take a few more years to resolve all of this, I was beginning to worrry that it might be awhile.

I'm going to have a mother son bonding and watch with my mom tonight. This is a rarity as we live 570 miles apart. Can't wait for Desmond's helicopter meltdown that I keep hearing about on the never quite accurate radio ads.

First there were flashbacks, then there were flash forwards, now we have time traveling backwards and forwards every five minutes. It was a good episode, but I'm not sure if I needed it right now. An entire episode based on one character, when there is so much mega shit going on right now. I just know the mini-cliff hanger between halves of the season is going to be even more frustrating. But then again if we were any closer to resolution it wouldn't be Lost would it?

I'm pretty sure Alan Dale has played a rich business man in every TV program of the past 8 years.

Hmmm.... In the bible Aaron is the great-great-grandson of Jacob. Claire's dad is Christian Shephard (Jack's dad). Christian was seen in the cabin of Jacob.. hmmmm something fishy is going on with that family!

so, penny's dad bought the ledger from the black rock, and did i hear that correctly, only one owner prior (other than the first mate), I thought the prior owner mentioned was Hanso, the dharma guy from all the hatch movies? Or an older relative? Magnus Hanso? anyway, or did I wish i heard that and it was different

I heard the auctioneer mention the log belonged to Hanso, but I thought he said Alvar Hanso. If I'm not mistaken, Alvar Hanso had something to do with the Dharma Initiave.

I think they said the log belonged to Magnus Hanso, owner of the Black Rock (the slave ship mysteriously located inland on the island, where the dynamite came from.) He was the great-grandfather of Alvar Hanso, the currently (presumed-living) CEO of the Hanso Foundation, which financed the DHARMA Initiative. The log was being sold by Tovard Hanso, and this was the first time we've heard that name.

edit: I just cross-checked in Lostpedia and they say the log was written by the Black Rock's first mate. In any case, it was being sold by someone named Tovard Hanso and ended up in Widmore hands. If you followed the Lost Experience two summers ago, you know that these two family names come into contact a lot -- although the details escape me, I'm sure they're all meticulously chronicled on Lostpedia.

so desmond can remember things while time traveling, but faraday can't? i wonder why that is, and i wonder if that's why he started crying while watching the 815 wreckage footage.

and how is it that a day passed on the island for twenty minutes in the helicopter, but it's december 24th both on and off the island?!

ugghhh, this show.

I hadn't thought of that first thing you said, but that's really interesting now that you mention it. I was thinking Desmond somehow broke that "you can't go back in time and kill your grandfather" principle and now that moment in 1996 has been re-written from them never meeting to them meeting, with Farraday making a note about Desmond in his journal for future reference. Or something.

I thought of the time difference/not difference, too. I was sure by island time it should have been early January. So I checked Lostpedia (which lists the post-crash days each episode takes place on) and they claim these episodes occur on the following days:

S04E01: day 93

S04E02: day 94

S04E03: day 94

S04E04: days 95-96

S04E05: off-island day 94 ; on-island day 96

That said, I have no idea how they calculate these or how they came up with a 2 day difference for this last episode. I guess someone more obsessed than me finds date anchors when possible and counts the cycles of sun/darkness in each episode... or maybe it's in the scripts and insider info leaks it? :pirate

is there a way to get a job thinking about Lost?

Be a cataloger and then just think about Lost at work, whether you're supposed to or not.

Luckily my boss comes into work a couple hours after me and is also into the show.

I was waiting for Penny's phone number to be THE numbers, but then when she started saying them I realized I can't remember what THE numbers are.

That thing Desmond wrote on his hand to tell 1996 Daniel was THE numbers. So was the 8 year difference.

I don't think Faraday traveled through time. Desmond changed Faraday's future when he went to see him. So, before Faraday instructed Desmond over the phone to find him at Oxford, there wasn't any note in his journal because the meeting hadn't happened. But after Desmond went back and met Faraday, the note was there because the meeting had now happened in the past.

That's how I took it anyway.

So was Penny's address.

That's what I was saying. You're better at describing it.

i just rewatched the episode, a couple of thoughts:

-i get why faraday couldn't remember and desmond could in this episode - what i was referring to was when he was playing cards and could barely remember them. it seemed like he and charlotte were experimenting with controlled time travel and he couldn't remember as well as desmond could (maybe because his time travel wasn't as extreme? i don't know)

-if, like faraday said when he and desmond were at oxford, you can't change the future, and if, as desmond said, faraday wouldn't remember their meeting at oxford, how does penny remember her meeting with desmond when he tells her he's going to call her? or does she remember?

-the "sickness," aka time travel, that minkowski and his partner had (and desmond has but gets cured), could this be the same thing that happened to danielle's group? and maybe she didn't get it for whatever reason because she was pregnant?
