dagwave
OK, being fairly new to the site (but not the band) I apologize in advance if this is a retread thread, but the Last Waltz got me thinking..... best:The Last Waltz - beautifully shot and edited, most likely my #1 for best.... I'm also a big fan of Rock 'n' Roll High School, too.... worst... hmmm "Tommy" was bad, but actually has some pretty cool scenes (Tina Turner as the Acid Queen comes to mind...), and of course Sgt. Peppers was truly horrendous on every level, even if Aerosmith's "Come Together" is a guilty pleasure....

Would Repo Man qualify? Great, quotable movie. At Eastern Illinois University, we had a "Rock and Roll in Society Class," which included the Wednesday Night Film Society -- about 10 movies from "The Harder They Come" to "The Girl Can't Help It." Most fun for 3 semester hours! worst... hmmm "Tommy" was bad, but actually has some pretty cool scenes (Tina Turner as the Acid Queen comes to mind...) ... to say nothing of Ann Margaret sliding around on a white bed with a big phallic pillow while covered with baked beans. Synthesizer Patel
eat the document - bob dylan. if only they'd cleaned this up and put it out instead of, or at least as well as, no direction home. it paints the exact same portrait of the tour as no direction home, but is far funnier and interesting to watch. the whole thing's on youtube if people wanna watch it - but the quality is not as good as the dvd version i've got, so it's a little hard to see what's going on at times. I've never seen Slow Century. Might have to check that out. I GUESS Spinal Tap would count (it was one of my all-time favorite movies, let alone music movies), but I wasn't considering flicks like that. The Devil and Daniel Johnston was interesting, but count me among those that don't "get" his music therefore I would never watch it again.
NightOfJoy
Grateful Dead at Winterland, 12/31/78 is a very nice commercially released concert flick.
yermom
My first thoughts have already been mentioned but I'll add that I've always really enjoyed: and this makes me all kinds of happy but that has more to do with my love for the Monks than it does the quality of the flick:
mjpuczko
i'm not real sure you can consider this a 'rock' movie but 'hearts on fire' with dylan is quite possibly the most laughable thing i've ever seen. it's so bad it's great.

Party @ the Moontower
I figured your name was from that. No, that really is my name. But, I finally got to see what a moontower looks like in real life while seeing Wilco at the Austin City Limits Festival last year. I have to say though, they are not really that exciting.Moontowers that is. Funny thing, @ ACL I wore a shirt that said "Party at the Moontower", since the movie was filmed in Austin and all...and many Austin townies had not even heard of Dazed and Confused. Next to the Goonies it's one of the all time greatest movies! With some amazing rock-n-roll!
