Tweedling
I hereby admit I spoke too soon when I said Obama was "cooked" earlier this summer. I did not foresee the depth of the economic woe the U.S. is now experiencing, and the longer it goes on, the better and better it looks for Obama. Though "better" might not be the right word - he is going to have a shitload of work to do. We might even have to bug out of Iraq just because we can't afford it anymore. don't worry! He's going to "change" everything!
bjorn_skurj
He is going to need every bit of his charisma and leadership to get the country to go along with what will be some tough decisions.
ih8music
Thank God! McCain appears to be understanding the fever he helped create. Still, the reaction of the crowds at recent rallies were unbearable and despite today's small attempt to slow it's pace, I fear the ultimate outcome of this wave of uncertainty and anger can only lead to something bad.indeed, it's about effing time he said something. Â Â check out his body language/facial expression as he has to explain to these people that Obama is not the boogeyman. It's like he's finally realizing the stupidity of some of his supporters who've bought in to the whole "he's a muslim terrorist" bs.

It's like he's finally realizing the stupidity of some of his supporters who've bought in to the whole "he's a muslim terrorist" bs. i'd like to give him credit for finally saying something, and i'll give him a little -- but (1) his attack dog has been off the leash for a little too long and gotten people too whipped up (see in the video how they want to stay whipped up and don't want mccain telling them to respect obama?), and (2) would he be saying these "calming" things now if the polls were showing that in the big picture the attacks were working for him? i don't think so. this is the mccain of 2000 and earlier, and i don't buy it. Analogman
Obama is leading in West Virginia, according to a recent poll. Poll shows Obama ahead of McCain in W.Va.. --Mike We'll see - I will be surprised if the state ever goes for anyone but a Republican ever again.
fatheadfred
don't worry! He's going to "change" everything! Or vote for the GOP and make it worse? If that is even possible. We are currently seeing the lowest disapproval rating ever. Margin or error: the liberals cooked the numbers. uh huh.

John Smith
The other day at school my daughter and a couple friends were talking and my daughter made a comment about people being born gay. One girl (these are HS kids BTW) immediately snapped at her that people are not born gay, they choose to be gay and that all gay people were molested as children. The third person in the conversation asked if the girl was saying his grandmother or grandfather was a child molestor because his aunt is gay? Anyhow they went back and forth about it a bit and the kid was unmovable in her position, it's what she learns at home and in church. I suggested to my daughter the next time it comes up to ask if the kid thinks Dick Cheney is a child molestor because his dauhter is gay and to ask the kid, which is it, do they choose to be gay or do they have no choice because they were molested? Anyhow I learned that her dad drove to Ohio to see Palin speak. This is the nicest family and very charitable kind people, well respected in the community etc... but they are intractable in their love for Bush and all things republican, and they fully believe Obama is the anti-christ, a mooslum and the world will end if he becomes president. LouieB
So....is the news on Palin a game changer...probably not.  Obama is going to win and really I think he has a clear shot at alot of states at this point. For a bunch of cool shit on the election pick up the most recent New Yorker.....or read it online. In addition to them endorsing Obama (naturally) is this very interesting article about disaffected voters...and how most won't vote for Obama or maybe anyone. Does race play a part....?? LouieB

John Smith
they are entitled to their opinions. Yes they are but I'm just showing the types of people who are caught up in the whole misinformation campaign and believing it. From the local Anchorage news paper, check out the video partway down on the statements made re: trooper gate, it includes a taped telephone call... http://www.adn.com/troopergate/story/552799.html
LouieB
Some people just love misinformation.....it gives them a reason to feel the way they do. Clearly Barack is a gay loving Commie and Muslim; ideas that in fact are contradictory in every which way. At this stage of the game most people who are not going to vote for him all ready know they aren't and really don't need any more reason to vote McCain.  Incidently to all my friends out there who can't seem yet to pull the trigger on voting Obama because he just doesn't seem right on ALL the issues and maybe voting for a third party candidate or vote for no one is the way to go, I heard Bill Maher say exactly what I have said for years....those on the right KNOW who to vote for (McCain/Palin), it mostly folks on the left who can't figure it out.... LouieB

Does the end justify the means if the opinion is damaging or harmful to a people, a race, or at the very least a general degree of civility?
LouieB
Every Grain of Sand is an amazing song.Definitely.....the song is late in the Jesus period on Shot of Love....not a particularly great album, but did have a few good songs on it. Groom still waiting at the Altar is a good one too. LouieB
MrRain422
they are entitled to their opinions. Is "All gay people were molested as children" an opinion? It's something that is demonstrably and factually false.

Spawn's dad
People are entitled to believe something even if it's false. What they're not allowed to do is act upon that belief in a way that breaks any laws. Blacks were once thought to be an inferior race, and as such were enslaved. The belief was incorrect, but no laws were broken. Some people still believe that, and they may be dumb asses for it, but not only can't control the thoughts of another, the freedom to think and express our beliefs is one of the principles that supposedlymakes America great. To use your own example, were abolitionists wrong to speak of the immorality of slavery, since it was perfectly legal at the time?
