worldrecordplayer
File this under completely irrelevant to everyone but me, I was at that Nassau show. I have the disc, my memory is the recording is not all that great. I will have to check it out again.Have it on now, and my memory is right. That Nassau 5/1/73 show is a terrible recording. Anyone else have it, or just my ears or discs?
Analogman
I've read reviews that suggest it sounds bad.
worldrecordplayer
I've read reviews that suggest it sounds bad.Terrible. Can't figure why they chose to release it. They should release that epic 12-31-73 Cow Palace show for a representation of this era lineup. Except maybe too widely circulated already.
Analogman
That show (or should I say tape) is owned by the people who bought the Bill Graham Archives, right? I remember reading in a really old issue of Hittin' The Note (when it was black and white) that they were working with the GD to get copies of the shows where Duane played with the band, that they were going to start up a Dick's Picks deal, and put out a Duane boxset. I have also read that they didn't have that many tapes, and then there was the lawsuit with Polygram. This was back when Kirk West was going to be overseeing the tapes, I think. By looking at that tracklist, it seems they are concentrating on his time as a session player. I think the only vault release live albums by the Allman Brothers that I own are: Live at Ludlow Garage: 1970, Fillmore East 2-70, and S.U.N.Y. at Stonybrook: Stonybrook, NY 9/19/71. Since they don't allow online tape trading, I have never messed with grabbing any AUD/Boot shows.
mountain bed
That Ludlow Garage is a very nice release. One of my favorite things about it is the version of Statesboro - I really don't need to hear that Fillmore version anymore as it's burned forever into my brain, but the Ludlow version is unique for me. Just when you think it's over it gets REAL quiet, with Duane very tastefully laying down the cool slide licks. LOVE it.
Analogman
The sound is better on the Fillmore East 2-70 release though.
calvino
Since they don't allow online tape trading, I have never messed with grabbing any AUD/Boot shows. This past summer I signed up for a couple of vines on Hittin' the Web - oddly enough, it was the first time that ever I dealt with vines. I got the entire 2009 Beacon run, the entire 2005 Radio City run, and 4 shows from 96 (2-Chicago/Riv. shows - Toronto, and Cleveland.) I do wish they allowed the shows to be shared, via on-line, but it wasn't too bad dealing with vines, I guess. This thread was started (by you) during the 2009 Beacon run - listening to 3/27/09 today - their version of Can't You See with Kid Rock was pretty damn good. 3/12/09, with Guy, Anastasio, and McConnell is next up in the queue. It's been kinda of fun reading the beginning of this thread. 9. Can't You See with Kid Rock, vocals; Paul Riddle, drum; Jimmy Hall, harp & vocals
Analogman
That's interesting. I think the only vines I ever did were on here over ten years ago now.
worldrecordplayer
The '09 Beacon run was epic.
Analogman
Duane boxset (legal stream of all the tracks): Skydog: The Duane Allman Retrospective. Some of those Allman Joys/Hour Glass/31st of February tracks are on the Allman Brothers boxset. I think that was the second boxset I ever bought. Some of those songs are pretty cool. calvino
Thanks for the link. Because I have a lot of the songs, I probably will take a pass on purchasing it, though.
Analogman
It would be cool to check it out - but I wouldn't buy it. I'd be more interested if it had more Allman Brothers demos or a bunch of unreleased live tracks. I don't think all the tracks appear at the link - or I missing them somehow. Hidden Track has a player that seems to display them all.
NoJ
Speaking of Allman Joys, I went to a second hand book n record store on Sunday to sell some albums, one of which was the Allman Joy record. I did some research beforehand and discovered that some of the albums were listing for up to $100 on ebay. Wow, I thought, this will be interesting to see what the store offers. They looked thru the albums and decided $14 was a fair offer. When I declined, the gal at the counter starts telling me that they dont pay much for vinyl because its a poor seller and not popular and they end up throwing much of it away and more bullshit like that. Overall, I rate the experience as mildly insulting. Btw, I have a bunch of vinyl for sale....Allmans, Jethro Tull, Ma Rainy, Robin Trower, Doors, Stones, misc, etc....all are at least in good or better shape...
Mr. Heartbreak
RIP, Dan Toler http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/02/26/dan-toler-dead_n_2764739.html
worldrecordplayer
I read somewhere today that the Allmans have worked up something like 7 new covers and 2 new original Gregg tunes for the Beacon run. Should be fun. Would love to make a trip down and catch a Beacon show and a Bowlive show.
calvino
Regarding Toler - saw this on another board - never saw it before. I am not too familiar with Toler's stint with the Allman Brothers. Below: Greg Allman & Dickey Betts studio jam - 1982 http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=snSlZzzcRDI
Analogman
He was in Dickey's band and then went on to play with the Brothers during the Enlightened Rouges/Reach For The Sky/Brothers of The Road era. I think I have Enlightened Rouges on cassette. But I don't have the other two albums. I don't much care for what they were doing on those albums.

Should be fun. Would love to make a trip down and catch a Beacon show and a Bowlive show. We are taking our 12 year old son to NYC for two nights of the Beacon run. It'll be the first time in NYC for all of us and the first time seeing the Allmans for my wife and son. We are beyond stoked for this!! worldrecordplayer, what is Bowlive? I'm pretty sure Dan Toler was also in Gregg's touring band on the I'm No Angel tour. I saw them open for Stevie Ray Vaughan at the rodeo grounds in Pueblo, CO in 1986. That was probably the best of the nine times I saw SRV, he was just on fire that night.
Mr. Heartbreak
I am not actually familiar with the various AB lineups...just posted that in case folks on here wanted to know.
