Opeth and The Sword.

had no gas in the tank to then head over to the Kikagaku Moyo show, even though i am sure it was great. hell, i missed The Poster Children and Kudgel as well.

Both of those bands would be so fun to see live!  I was watching a live video of Opeth and their front man said to the crowd, "we have tuned our instruments down to make this song sound more evil".  So great!

Josh Ritter put on a fantastic opening show. One of the best I've ever seen. Isbell was fantastic as ever. His live shows keep getting better. Such good playing. Unbelievable setlist.

I've seen Isbell several times but haven't seen Ritter despite being a fan of his for about a decade now. I'm excited to take some family to the show so they can see what my fandom is all about.

The Sword sounded fine (adn they had a hell of a low end going... i tihnk it was synth-based in addition to the rickenbacker) but they just kinda stood there and had terrible light.

Opeth had better light but i was fighting a really sore throat and it was my 3rd night out in a row, so i left early.

Beacon I assume? Have fun!

Took a train from New Haven to NYC for a JGB Beacon Theater (early) show in December of '83 with a buddy. Like 16 yrs old or so. Freezing cold out. We had no idea how to get to the show and we were tight on time after rolling into Grand Central so basically started running in an approximate direction asking directions as we ran. Quite a few blocks, as I recall. Got to the Beacon on time and there was a mini bar in the lobby so we gave that a shot. When it was time to order our drinks my buddy ordered a rum and Coke and when it was my young-assed turn I panicked and ordered a pina colada. Everyone in the immediate area of me (adults) burst into laughter. I settled for a humiliated rum and Coke.

I recently looked this show up and we caught 8 tunes. Got in trouble with our respective folks and had a beer bottled smash over our heads waiting for the train back to CT  in Grand Central.

Sounds like it was hoot.

Its nice to see the Poster Children back at it. Saw them back in the early 90s a half dozen times or so. Surprised they didn't get a bigger following.

^^ Poster Children are arguably the greatest band out of Champaign, IL.  Though it's a pretty low bar -- REO Speedwagon may be second!! :ike

Yeah that's the one. I guess it WAS about 80 min. of music....

Grand Central. Drunk maniac. Night time. No cops around. Young guys looking nervous....

I was texting my buddy I went with (who now lives in CO, too) about the show and he reminded me that Dr. John opened. Now I recall, due to circumstances of the evening, that when he came out on stage with a tall walking stick and laid it on top of his piano that I was pretty sure it was a huge snake that he placed on top of the piano....

well i sucked it up and saw Warpaint last night. though i got in at doors (8) and they didn't take the stage until near 10:30 after one opener, it was worth it. god i love that band.
