Analogman
I read an interview with Nils the other day - he said he didn't think American audiences could handle a show that long. Also - here is a rather long article about Bruce by way of the New Yorker magazine - We Are Alive - Bruce Springsteen at sixty-two.
remphish1
WOW! Would have loved to even see the acoustic part! 4 and a half hours is unreal!
Sweet Papa Crimbo
This is an unprecedented performance (both in concert and recordings) by an artist at 62. Springsteen, Dylan and McCartney are aging gracefully, producing viable recordings and performing at a high level in concert. They are in SHARP contrast to the abortion that the Rolling Stones have become. LouieB
Good article in a recent New Yorker about Bruce. it is probably easy to find. LouieB

"abortion" (the Stones bit in the New Yorker article is the only part I didn't enjoy - seemed out of place and forced - but who cares.)

But, unlike the Rolling Stones, say, who have not written a great song since the disco era and come together only to pad their fortunes as their own cover band, Springsteen refuses to be a mercenary curator of his past. By the End of the Magic and Working on a Dream tours, he had basically dropped most of the tunes from his set lists.
remphish1
and Wilco shows are considered marathons at 2 hours...come on Wilco show the Boss up?!
suites
Dylan has really been on cruise control for the last 5 years...setlist short and basically same night to night....still plays around 100 shows per year which is very cool. Not in same league and Paul or Bruce (both play 3 hours sets everytime). Paul's setlists are the same but if you see it you will be amazed....just classic after classic....just amazing. Don't try to compare to Stones, totally different situation. I agree, Wilco should look at this as a challenge and expand the sets a little. Also, Bruce does like the new songs but he is only 1/2 done this tour. Will be judged when he plays into 2013 if songs are still in setlist.

I threw in Sir Paul and Zimmy because I didn't want to be a total Bruce Partisan. The Stones and their malaise needs no comment from me. I think you will see that, for at least Working on a Dream tour, he shunned that record for the most part (good God what a tortured sentence).Maybe it's because the European audiences are a lot more sophisticated and ALLOW Bruce to play his newer material...American audiences (especially in the Northeast) are not as open. uncool2pillow
That New Yorker piece was phenomenal. A couple of great quotes from Van Zant about Springsteen's relationship with his dad as an archetype of the 60s generation gap and another when Van Zant confronted Bruce about writing songs for his fans, not for himself. Analogman
The article seemed to a bit odd to me at times. I found that bit about his plastic surgery and the band members medical problems out of place. Or maybe I am just not use to reading such things about Bruce.
IRememberDBoon
i thought the scorcese stones flick was pretty damn good.
kagee
I saw and taped both Dublin shows last month. Both shows were over the 3 hour mark - 2 of the best shows I've ever seen.

Analogman
I wonder how someone got thier hands on a Bruce SBD? I can see how in the old days, but in modern times, it can't be that easy.
howdjadoo
Agreed(remember Bruce yelling"bootleggers roll your machines"?),but it's here and top notch right?
Analogman
I forgot what the last Bruce boot I found and grabbed was - I think it may have been: Bruce Springsteen Live in Highlands 1972.
howdjadoo
My last one was the remastered version of "The Ties That Bind"Oh no it was that Sirius concert in march I believe
Analogman
I was listening to Tracks the other day. I had not listened to that boxset in a long time. I still think the packaging is terrible. But - there are some great songs there. Iceman, Loose Ends, Wages of Sin, and that version of Stolen Car - great stuff.
remphish1
I was at that River show...was sweet!
