GtrPlyr
9. Courtney Barnett -- A Sea of Split Peas I do love that one. I"m pretty sure that came out in 2013 though, otherwise it would make my list too.
Beltmann
Thanks guys. I had never heard of Courtney Barnett, but a quick sample right now has already convinced me to buy the album. Sounds fantastic.
tinnitus photography
yep. 2013.http://www.discogs.com/Courtney-Barnett-The-Double-EP-A-Sea-Of-Split-Peas/master/640464
Beltmann
North American release was 2014. I'd say it's fair game for either list. It's not much different than, say, a Moroccan movie made in 2012 that isn't released in the U.S. until 2014--it's a 2012 work, yes, but of course U.S. critics should consider it for their 2014 lists. GtrPlyr
well to complicate matters more, it's a compilation. And half the comp is from her 2012 e.p. Nevertheless, good to see this release getting some more attention here. (I met Courtney a few months back, after a show at a small club, where I'm pretty sure she caused me permanent hearing loss. Very down-to-earth and friendly girl, she deserves all the success she's getting.)
tinnitus photography
i didn't know anything about either Courtney nor Benjamin Booker but that was a pretty rockin' bill this summer.
Mr. Heartbreak
does that mean the recent Dylan Basement tapes is fair game too? Yep. And the Wilco comps too.
tinnitus photography
they should belong in a different category. like reissues. because that's what they are.
bleedorange
Just wanted to echo the thoughts on Courtney Barnett. Excellent album. Thanks for the recommendation!
calvino
For some reason my five year old always wants to watch the Avant Gardener video on our Roku. It is a good tune, need to check out the rest of her stuff. Just checked out her web-site --- you can doodle/color on it ---- no wonder why my five year old digs her. http://viewtoagig.courtneybarnett.com.au/ Edited November 20, 2014 by calvino

Plumplechook
Saw Courtney Barnett in concert here in Sydney a few weeks ago. Great show. 'Sea of Split Peas' is actually a collation of her first two EPs. Her first real full-length studio album is due out early next year I believe. Love this duet she did with Billy Bragg recently on an Australian TV rock quiz show - covering the Velvets 'Sunday Morning':
tongue-tied
Just gonna add what I don't see here: Rhythm – Wildbirds & PeacedrumsLa Isla Bonita – DeerhoofDrop – Thee Oh SeesThe Voyager – Jenny Lewis
PopTodd
Just ordered the new Tom Zé album.I don't think that I am going to be able to complete my list until I hear that one.

Lammycat
3) Jack White - Lazaretto I don't listen to a lot of "new" music but I've I've appreciated and really liked almost everything Jack White-involved for the past bunch of years. For whatever reason, I just can't really get into this latest one. I think I've listened to it twice.I get a few tunes in and say to myself something to the effect of : "Why? I should be listening to Blunderbuss, instead...."
Artifice
I just posted something similar in the now listening thread. Though I do like Spoon's record, and that Alvvays album is especially fun since almost all of the songs are four chord simplicity (just pick up a guitar and play along - you'll have it by the 2nd verse), IMO the best indie-pop album of the year is Stars - No One is Lost. Just a great record that isn't getting enough love yet.
lost highway
I finally got around to Jolie Holland's Wine Dark Sea. It's pretty amazing- definitely her grittiest album to date.
