  1. I think the football team needs to take a big hit - it sucks for the current students/players - but such is life. The school/program needs to be severely punished. Football should go away for at least a couple of years and the university should still pay for the scholarships to the football players that choose to stay. http://www.suntimes.com/13733985-761/penn-state-deserves-death-penalty-for-football-prison-for-officials.html
  2. I am watching the Live in Texas Blu-Ray - 1978 show from Dallas/Fort Worth. Great show. Ronnie plays very well. Plus, Some Girls is perhaps my favorite Stones record. Though I swore off buying tickets for Stones shows, I probably will attend one if they go on tour next year, which I am sure they will. Hopefully, Richards can still play decent enough. From the few snippets I saw of Keith's playing recently, I think it was wise to take the year off. I am sure arthritis has a lot to do with it - plus I am sure his past lifestyle has caught up with him, too.
  3. As previously stated...this should be an interesting show. http://www.chicagotr...,0,698053.story
  4. Surplus - I wonder what would have happen if a "lock box" was instituted.
  5. The sound was good towards the back. Tweedy did seem very appreciative towards the crowd. At the beginning of the last encore we headed up towards the top of the hill (adjacent to the parking lot) that overlooked the whole field/park - it was a rather impressive site. The fireworks were being lit off on the same side of as the hill - which was cool.
  6. Fun, beautiful(weather-wise) day/night. Fireworks were cool, too. We stayed towards the back of the field (had two kids with me) - it was nice that it was not packed towards the back. Kane County did a nice job with traffic flow at the end of the night, for us at least. We parked in the "Preferred" lot and were out of there in about 3 minutes - I was a bit worried that there was going to be some type of bottleneck. After seeing 3 of the Chicago shows last year - it was nice just to relax with the family and listen to the music in the open space. We didn't decide to go until the day before
  7. I believe a SLR is considered a professional camera at most venues - at least from my experience.
  8. I kinda liked this one. The recording devices item is a bit odd - at least someone should be able to pull the feed from WXRT for posterity.
  9. http://www.chicagotr...,3426266.column I don't particularly agree with article, but I have never been one to care about this type of stuff, either. Plus I don't own a VW and haven't shopped at a Whole Foods in a while, though my neighborhood will be getting one by the end of the year, so that may change a bit. The Tribune just instituted a sign-in policy (that is free) to read columnists' content, so I am not sure if the link will work for "non-subscribers" .
  10. I believe all the op's answers are below. http://www.jamusa.com/wilco/wilco-geneva.html
  11. Well, I guess I would be remiss if I didn't mention the Ranger/White Sox series was a fun to watch - great series. Hats off to the Rangers for the below and for the White Sox for ending the Ranger's streak. Brutal weather, too.
  12. Not sure if it counts, but Sky Blue Sky was going through my head as I was walking in a parade today....
  13. Just got done participating in my 1st 4th of July parade with the kid's - now, both zonked out while listening to 2/11/70 in our AC confines - it's a scorcher here in Chicago. http://archive.org/details/gd1970-02-11.sbd.smith.patched.99154.sbeok.flac16
  14. Yeah - Yankee through the Album were all on Nonesuch - so why would Nonesuch say you can play songs off of any album, besides WTA. Plus, they have been playing songs off of the Album since The Whole Love has been released - just not on this present tour.
  15. Contractual ---- that's pretty funny. I believe they are going to play the whole Album in Geneva....
  16. That's what I figured.
  17. Last year or so I read Moon's bio "Dear Boy" - depressing read. I haven't read Dougal's and I am not sure I want to.
  18. I was kinda surprised to Roger drinking straight from the bottle - I am by far an Who expert, but I thought he was the only somewhat sane one in the group, not much of a drugger/drinker. Not that there is anything necessarily wrong with drinking whiskey from the bottle.... Rock and roll shouldn't be so stressful - but then again, perhaps stress induces great music, who knows. It was sad seeing Moon being dragged off, too.
  19. Sure the hell was a bummer...
  20. http://www.gdao.org The Grateful Dead Archive Online is up and going. I guess the UC Santa Cruz library opened up the Dead archive last week, also.
  21. That scene with him and his guitars is great.
  22. If I remember correctly, a main reason they were going out on tour was to get John some money - could be wrong about that, though. I think that was one of Pete's bitter comments, during the aftermath. I am guessing, if his wife was selling his Walkman, John did not leave much behind, as far as money goes. I bet the Pawn Star guy kept the Walkman for himself - I think he is a big Who fan, then again the old man probably made him sell it. Never gotten around to see the Who live.
  23. Nice piece by Pete regarding the 10 year anniversary of Entwislte's death. Do remember Pete being pissed - perhaps rightly so.
  24. We were a cool grade school For the 7th and 8th grade dances sometimes we had live bands play - they usually played for the whole school during a assembly during the day. anyway back to Rush....Haven't heard the new album, but man, nothing brings out the Audiophile's, like at new Rush record.
  25. In the early/mid 80s, I remember bands played in our gym while I was in grade school. One time, a local guitar player, who was also guitar teacher at a guitar store was playing, my buddy who had him as a teacher, got to get up on stage and played Johnny B Goode with the band - I thought it was the coolest thing at the time.
