  1. Very sad to hear this news, I recently bought both the movie and the book, 24 Hour Party People, and read the book while on vacation this week. Very funny guy and his influence on my music collection is immeasurable. --Mike
  2. Probably Reservations or Muzzle of Bees but I certainly slip into I am Trying To Break Your Heart from time to time, and then in my lighter moments Heavy Metal Drummer (the goth version) --Mike
  3. Radiohead took the top two spots, maybe a little excessive but I can't say I disagree with anything in the top ten. Any list with Neutral Milk Hotel that high is fine by me. --Mike
  4. Every year Steve Spurrier casts a vote for them in the pre-season poll. I am obviously very pleased to see the sixth ranked team in the nation up there, if I am ever going to see West Virginia win a national championship it my lifetime this might be the year. --Mike
  5. This looks incredible, Anderson is probably my favorite current film-maker, so needless to say I'm looking forward to it. --Mike
  6. Has her new one leaked yet? A Little More Personal was a bit of a grower, her first one is much better though IMHO, in my top 7,000 for that year def. --Mike
  7. Over Rated: Impossible Germany (studio version), Hate it Here. Under Rated: Well first of all Summerteeth (the album) alone has several.. In a Future Age, Pieholden Suite, When You Wake Up Feeling Old, Summerteeth. Why Would You Wanna Live?, Pot Kettle Black, Kamera, Should've Been In Love --Mike
  8. Good stuff, I can personally vouch for On and On and On it works I won't tell you that story here, but trust me get that on there. Reservations is also brilliant. I love the song She's A Jar, but you have to be careful with one as the ending can be interpreted many different ways. Other than that, good work and good luck my friend. --Mike
  9. ALTWYS, Muzzle of Bees, Nels at the end of Ashes, Glenn on Let's Not Get Carried Away and the vibes at the end of Kamera, and Leroy at the end of When The Roses Bloom Again from the 2003 Soundstage. --Mike
  10. It'll show up eventually. They toured behind YHF for about a year (if you count the late 2001 shows before the record came out offically) before they did Poor Places live. I just hope I'm at one of the shows when that happens, it's one of my favorites on the record. --Mike
  11. I heard this one at work the other day, but my desk wasn't facing the television so I didn't see it. Anyway for the most part these commercials have been fairly nonsensical which is good for Volkswagen at the moment, because as you may remember earlier this year they did ran an ad (I think it was during the Super Bowl) with a person standing on a ledge of a building. The dude was going to jump off, but someone yelled out Volkswagen was having a sale and he stepped off the ledge. It wasn't very popular with the national suicide prevention agency, I can kind of see why. Apparently (and this migh
  12. In my three years cases of Ramen Noodles have certainly been very beneficial, since they banned George Foreman grills from all of our dorms when some future Republican congressman (in all likelihood) decided it would be funny to cook aluminum foil at three in the morning. Air Fresheners are essential as well particularly if it's co-ed. --Mike
  13. I could listen to nothing but this song for days on end, and I usually do in the week heading up towards Thanksgiving. --Mike
  14. Great stuff, I'm in total agreement with him about the greatness of the Bears Grizzly and Panda and Hack and a Hacksaw. Dr. Dog is pretty solid too, I don't think I've heard the Battles yet. --Mike
  15. 1. Tried and True (Summerteeth B-Side) 2. Outtamind (Outtasite) (the Sesame street version on Being There disc two) 3. Let's Fight (thank God this wasn't on SBS) 4. My Darling 5. I'm A Wheel --Mike
  16. Great news, I love his book about Meat is Murder. --Mike
  17. Yeah Spiral Stairs and Malkmus both hinted last year when Wowee Zowee was re-issued that they might be doing something for their 20th anniversary. I don't know if they'll ever record again but a tour would be nice for those of us who missed them the first time around. --Mike
  18. I've never really cared for the Pumpkins but I am hoping this will inspire Malkmus to re-unite Pavement or at least put out a new solo album so he can write Range Life pt. 2. --Mike
  19. Feeling the same way about that one, and I love the cover also. --Mike
  20. Yeah this is great, I don't listen to Sonic Youth nearly as much as I should, but I have really been loving this one a lot recently. --Mike
  21. Yeah isadorah I have read that also, it confused me a bit as the song was first played live in the fall of 2005, which was about a year before his mother passed away. I can certainly see it having a deeper meaning for him now as I have sort of written things where I haven't consciously been thinging of a certain thing and then something happens which gives it's a greater context. Either way the song is breathe taking, I recant my earlier posts about Sky Blue Sky not having a standout track that stands with Tweedy's best work, and when (I don't know if I said that here) I said this song was an
  22. I think it might be my favorite non-Beatle recording. Lester Bangs got it right. --Mike
  23. See I'd always thought it was O'Rourke playing the intro to that, but you're right it is Jorgensen. I love Mike's playing and wasn't trying to knock him it all, I just prefer Leroy particularly the live shows from his era. What's really amazing is he's playing some of those parts a la Steven Drozd of the lips while playing second guitar to Jeff at the same time. My personal favorite piano moments on Ghost are Handshake and ATLWYS both are which feature Leroy, though Mike is all over Hummingbird. As for Jay, well listen to YHF and Summerteeth, nuff said. --Mike
  24. Very few keyboard players really match the power and soul of some of Leroy's parts from the 1999-2003 era, and Bennett wrote the majority of those parts. Nothing against Mike but he's has a long way to go before he can touch either Bennett or Bach on the keys.
