  1. I heard a lot of speculation about Olivia Colman, she starred in Broadchurch which was run by the new showrunner Chris Chibnall. Or Richard Ayoade from The IT Crowd, he'd be a good choice.
  2. Yeah I thought it was decent. I liked Bill as a companion and Capaldi and her seem to have good chemistry together. Though now that we know this is it for Moffat and Capaldi it just makes me want to skip ahead to the end of the season when Missy and The Master will no doubt show up and things get interesting. It'll be interesting to see how this season does. Besides the two lackluster Christmas specials we haven't had a normal Who episode since 2015, long enough for the audience to lose interest.
  3. Great idea. Jeff with Glenn on drums, or Nels on dobro, is always a treat. I was watching this performance earlier and noticed how great Jeff and John sound together when they're both on guitar and John's singing harmony. What about them going through some classic Wilco tunes together? For two guys who've been playing together since like 1993, they haven't collaborated much just the two of them.
  4. I'll never say no to more music but I think the brevity of Wilco's recent releases has worked well for Star Wars and Schmilco. Because they're on single LPs they're easier to listen to, which means they get spun more than say Sukierae or The Whole Love. So I'm glad to see Together At Last follow this new pattern, especially since the subtitle is "Loft Acoustic Sessions 1" I'm sure there's more in the can or plans for more studio sessions.
  5. Yeah I just saw that, I ordered that version, 6 dollar shipping vs 35, easy choice to make. Hopefully Amazon.ca will get it in stock soon and Kung Fu will be cool about cancelling my order.
  6. BAM! Out of nowhere. I'm in for the boxset. Clear vinyl AND a jigsaw? Jeff, you know me so well. EDIT: 34 dollar shipping to Canada.....
  7. Oh god, my wife is a huge fan, I think we have most of their albums. I've never seen the appeal.
  8. Damn, David Letterman has one impressive beard.
  9. Oh god, I forgot all about that. I got as far as the balls rolling out when he hits the "like a rolling stone" part, I couldn't take anymore.
  10. Can you imagine seeing a popular band who didn't play their singles and only played 10 songs? The sixties were weird.
  11. Hey now, some of the songs from Christmas in the Heart had some different tempos!
  12. Yeah I heard that too. From Martin Scorsese. That'd be great, his No Direction Home doc is great.
  13. Pre-ordered the vinyl, I think this will be my 5th copy of Sgt. Peppers?? The original 80s CD, the mid-2000s CD reissue, an old Canadian vinyl pressing and the mono LP repress from a few years ago.... Yikes. You might think I love Sgt. Peppers but there's a handful of songs I don't like... Fixing A Hole, She's Leaving Home, and Being For Benefit of Mr. Kite. I love the rest though. I do wish the LPs came with the DVD. I watched an old VHS copy of the documentary (if it's the same one I'm thinking of) in 2006ish and I recall it being quite good. They go through the tapes and isolate channels.
  14. So I received my copy of Triplicate today.... You know, like the previous two, it's not terrible. The arrangements of these songs are topnotch, the pedal steel is a really good fit. Bob's voice is pretty strong for 21st century Bob. But it's a collection of songs I have no connection with. Not only that, but it's essentially three albums of this, and the songs sort of sound the same. It's the same time signature, slow tempo, and crooning. There is some horns in the arrangements, which I don't think the other ones had, so there's that. I'll be seeing Bob for the first time (!!!!) this July,
  15. Someone needs to explain to Neil that if you're pretending to be sick you need to lay low. This is what happens when you've never had a 9-5 job in the social media age!
  16. Yeah I actually couldn't think of a better young person slang I'm familiar with. I guess I'm no longer "with it". To get things back on topic, if we're talking about musician as in a skilled performer, I'd nominate George Harrison as my favourite, mainly from his post-Beatles work. There's not a lot of other lead guitarists I can pick out of a song 100% of the time.
  17. This has been my weekly instalment of Teaching Young People Slang to the VC Community. Next week we'll work on "lit"!
  18. Wow, wow, why are you throwing shade at Bobby D? Last I checked this thread was all-time favourite musician, not musician you think plays the best.
  19. I'm not going to lie, at this point hearing NY is sick makes me pretty nervous. Especially sick to the point where they know he still won't be feeling better in a few days. Hopefully he's OK.
  20. I collect (and listen to) records. I play a fair amount of video games, it's the ultimate combination of music, art, storytelling, music, and exploration.... also maybe the only combination of all those things. I also watch a lot of Netflix, is that a hobby? I guess not. My main hobby though is trying to make my wife laugh, one day I will be successful.
  21. My heart says Dylan. My Canadianness says Neil Young though. But if I had to just pick one, it would be Bob, I think he's released significantly more great music.
