  1. I agree that the angle is tired: Wah, wah NY and BOS have money to spend on their sports franchises and they're too good and the fans suck wah wah wah. The fans from the two areas are mostly pretty obnoxious. No news there. But come on, Doyel was born in Hawaii, raised in Mississippi, and spent his teen years + in Georgia. Not exactly sports meccas (though the Braves were dominant for over a decade not long ago). Lump him in with all the other whiners. It was still a decent piece, though. Plus, he cops to a few of the contributions of both cities in the end.
  2. Supposedly Jill Lesh and Kimmock don't see eye-to-eye, too. Warren's grit works for me and I loved him with Phil & Friends.
  3. Kimmock is obviously a great talent and adds a new level when he plays with anyone (though I tend to get tired of his own band). He's also been described by some to be difficult to work with. Ahem. I agree with the Karan piece, but I've gotta disagree with the Warren take. He brings the grit. And I actually like his vocals. A-man: Ratdog has gotten markedly better the last few years. Looser and more exploratory/Jazz-y. I've got some of the stuff with Kimmock from the past year that you're welcome to check out.
  4. I've seen Vince with them. Gent Treadly's a very good band, too. I've seen them a bunch out here. A few times with Buddy Cage and a few times with Willie Waldman. They've got ties to Banyan, too (willie). Nels plays in Banyan from time to time. Full circle.
  5. I haven't heard/read anything like that regarding Hornsby, just that Hornsby has always wanted to maintain his own successful career. And just to note: Hornsby=baby grand piano and accordian; Brent=keys. I liked Hornsby's stuff with the GD quite a bit but I'll take Brent every time. Cool you got to play with Vince. I've met him several times as he played my friend's bar a few times (in fact he was slated to play the night after or night of his death and I didn't find out 'til I was down at the bar for the show). He would always hang around for a good chunk of the day having drinks with us a
  6. That's what I've read. Vince basically was ostracized from the inner circle because of issues. He apparently took Garcia's death very hard and struggled with substances and mental health issues after 1995. I just remember reading that GD management wouldn't return emails/phone calls to him even, and though it was a little callous. Then again, that's one angle/side.
  7. Sarah Silverman on The Jimmy Kimmel Show: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wnVJZkDuVBM
  8. Vince was not "invited" to join them on stage, either. He showed up anyway with hopes they'd bring him into the fold to play but they shunned him. He ended up playing in the parking lot. Pretty lame of them.
  9. Done deal. 7 yr/$150 +M: http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/7748102...ee-to-extension
  10. BOS signs 1B sean Casey- 1 yr./$700,000. This is a cheap and solid sign. Nice back-up for Youkilis and allows Youks to go to 3B when Lowell needs a breather: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3225795
  11. But the man stuck to his Baroque roots and forged ahead with his unique style unwavered by all the musical stylings changing around him. Or something. Of course some say the week-long benders in the Hamptons crippled his innovation towards the end, but that's a matter of opinion.
  12. Why does someone always have to toss one of these in, as if it's a sign of trying to be hip to appreciate a band's earlier work/line up/whatever to the more recent work? I rarely see this reasoning when people discuss the positives/negatives of different eras for bands like The Beatles or the Dead. Some people think the newer stuff pales in comparison to the older stuff- so what? It's not a right/wrong deal. I just hope my street cred isn't tarnished by posting this, though. Plus, it's a known fact that if you dis newer stuff in lieu of older stuff you're hipper. I think we all know this.
  13. Wher in CT are you? And that AB residency sounds like a hoot.
  14. Work. But it's a Friday work. And pay day was yesterday. And it's nice out.
  15. Happy birthday, A-man. Thanks for all the music you kindly share around here. You're a good cat. Hope your day is filled with grate tunes.
  16. That Gonzalez one leaves a big question mark.
  17. I think that's a fantastic rant. It's the kind of rant I'm prone to do: a little mocking, a few f-bombs, an apology or two thrown in throughout, rolling of the eyes, incredulous and redundant questioning. Perfect.
  18. Marlins sign Luis Gonzalez for 1 yr/$2 M.: http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpag...MLB&id=1628 And sign Dallas McPherson to compete for 1st base spot (Jose Castillo/Jorge Cantu): http://florida.marlins.mlb.com/news/articl...sp&c_id=fla NYY sign Morgan Ensberg to compete for 1st base spot (Giambi/Betamit/Duncan): http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3224591
  19. A head's up that the official BC site is offering Warpaint for $15 during it's pre-sale (until Feb. 29th). They've also got soem t-shirt deal too, I think. http://clicks1.musictoday.com/cts/click?q=...PHYQQ%2Bg%3D%3D
  20. I like Weir's facial garb. Fitting for a 60 year old warrior. And Ramblin' Jack looks decent, too.
  21. Nobody talks about the Reds anymore. But those Congressional Hearings will be firing up soon....
