  1. This is why people call Wilco "dad rock".
  2. ...is busier than the other two combined.
  3. https://www.npr.org/2019/01/01/681442532/how-the-byrds-sweetheart-of-the-rodeo-became-a-classic-50-years-after-its-debut
  4. Unless we see another update, I will assume that The Chills and Janelle Monae are rude.
  5. The closest to a Wilco connection is a song by Hozier featuring Mavis Staples. Lots of great music on his list. I made a Spotify playlist. https://open.spotify.com/user/pdbiss/playlist/3vQUXsnMw5RNMwNsxxkiPK?si=fxM3oYENQe-YtiJdzo2_lA
  6. I discovered it doing my research about her. Listening now. I may like this more. The harmonies are beautiful.
  7. Discovered this on some year-end list. NPR? Greg Kot? I can't remember. Only one song in, but I love her voice, the production, and the songwriting.
  8. I, and many others I know, do the same thing with Seinfeld lines.
  9. Merry Christmas to all. I will share that I was brought to tears when I opened my tickets to Paul McCartney in Madison in June. 2019 will be my summer of Beatles and Stones with seeing the Stones at Soldier Field later that month, assuming all those senior citizens make it that long!
  10. The news of the past 24 hours has me about as rattled as any time since election night 2016. Stocks in freefall (maybe stabilizing today), Mattis leaving, Trump drawing a line in the sand to fund the border wall, Whitaker not recusing... I want Mueller's report ASAP! Also, I've been thinking about what happens if impeachment actually happens. It's not going to pretty. If the Senate votes to remove (I'm thinking some Rs might be feeling less loyal with Mattis leaving), I have no faith that Trump would honor that. OR, if he does, he stokes violence among the extreme MAGA heads.
  11. That Angelique Kidjo Remain in Light is something else. I really like it.
  12. I teach 7th-grade social studies in suburban Des Moines. This is my 26th year.
  13. David Byrne - Des Moines Civic Center Sturgill Simpson - Hinterland Festival, St. Charles, Iowa Margo Price - Hinterland Festival Rufus Wainwright - Hoyt Sherman Place, Des Moines Peter & Paul (RIP Mary) - Hoyt Sherman Place
  14. Today the power was out at my school for about an hour. A squirrel messing with a sub-station is the reported cause.
  15. Blew through the first season of The Fabulous Mrs. Maisel this weekend to watch the 2nd with the wife who'd seen the first when it came out. Some pretty serious flaws in places, but very glad I watched it.
  16. Today I listened as my seventh grade student relayed the story of discovering her older sister (20s) passed out from a heroin addiction. She's now in a coma. They were going to pull her off life support, but now is showing some positive signs. Seventh grade. Fuck...
  17. Always a phenomenal show. Enjoy!
  18. There's something to getting so close and never finishing the deal. At least the Lions don't consistently offer glimpses of hope.
  19. After following this team for 40 years, I can assure you that they are not going to get their shit together any time soon.
  20. Maron has talked about this a lot. This is usually intentional. I think he believes doing his research might lead to an interview following the same narrative as every other interview that person had done. One could argue that Maron's interviews all follow their own similar narrative, but -- to me at least -- it's one that's unique in the celebrity interview world and almost always refreshing and insightful. I started paying attention about 4 years ago, only listening when it was someone I knew and cared about. Now I listen to them all and rarely regret it.
