  1. I teach 7th-grade social studies in suburban Des Moines. This is my 26th year.
  2. David Byrne - Des Moines Civic Center Sturgill Simpson - Hinterland Festival, St. Charles, Iowa Margo Price - Hinterland Festival Rufus Wainwright - Hoyt Sherman Place, Des Moines Peter & Paul (RIP Mary) - Hoyt Sherman Place
  3. Today the power was out at my school for about an hour. A squirrel messing with a sub-station is the reported cause.
  4. Blew through the first season of The Fabulous Mrs. Maisel this weekend to watch the 2nd with the wife who'd seen the first when it came out. Some pretty serious flaws in places, but very glad I watched it.
  5. Today I listened as my seventh grade student relayed the story of discovering her older sister (20s) passed out from a heroin addiction. She's now in a coma. They were going to pull her off life support, but now is showing some positive signs. Seventh grade. Fuck...
  6. Always a phenomenal show. Enjoy!
  7. There's something to getting so close and never finishing the deal. At least the Lions don't consistently offer glimpses of hope.
  8. After following this team for 40 years, I can assure you that they are not going to get their shit together any time soon.
  9. Maron has talked about this a lot. This is usually intentional. I think he believes doing his research might lead to an interview following the same narrative as every other interview that person had done. One could argue that Maron's interviews all follow their own similar narrative, but -- to me at least -- it's one that's unique in the celebrity interview world and almost always refreshing and insightful. I started paying attention about 4 years ago, only listening when it was someone I knew and cared about. Now I listen to them all and rarely regret it.
  10. Now he got tix! About $200. I was hoping to be around $150, but I'm seeing the Stones.
  11. Friend had 3 tix for the 2nd Soldier Field show. Got kicked out during checkout...
  12. Now "in line" for the 2nd Soldier Field. I may have Bears presale code. CLUBSTH
  13. Front row balcony for Iowa City. I sure hope the Cedar Rapids mayor's daughter makes a return visit. I missed that show.
  14. yup - Seems to have only unlocked nosebleeds. Cheap at $66, but there are Bears ones about $150 I'd rather get.
  15. If anyone can give me the presale code for Soldier Field Chicago Bears Presale (I assume for season ticket holders??), I'd be most appreciative.
  16. I think $100 would be my ceiling. I'm a bit worried. I hinted at McCartney in Milwaukee for a Xmas gift from the wife, but won't know until after tix go on sale.
  17. I thought the Oregon Trail segment (2nd to last, IIRC) was one of the strongest. Didn't dislike any of them, but the last one was definitely the weakest. Didn't notice the switch to video. I should have. I paid lots of attention to the landscapes!
  18. Jesus. I hope he calms down and everything ends as well as it possibly can.
  19. The first half was definitely better than the second. The hour-long jam was all well and good, just maybe not best experienced live between 10:30 and 11:30 PM on the same day I spent about 7 hours in a car and had a few beers in me.
  20. They never shared the stage. Apparently they did Friday. I was expecting a career retrospective. It was more a night curated by Moore. There was some fantastic moments, but some just downright confounding. It ended with an hour long, mostly one chord jam. Fell asleep more than once during it. Overall, glad I went, but very, very odd.
