  1. This serves as a reminder that I'm getting too fat for mine.
  2. I used to have this on cassette recorded from my brother's vinyl. I ended up buying it from Twin/Tone. They just burn you a CD and send it out. I think it's such a gem. Nearly every song tells a story -- beautiful, absurd, often both. So glad I have it (hopefully) permanently now.
  3. No thank you. He's older than Biden. He'd be 79 at his inauguration.
  4. Starting a new thread... Elizabeth Warren was in my home state of Iowa this weekend. The caucuses are always interesting. I have been a Republican most of my life, and an independent much more than a Democrat. That all changed in 2016. 2020 will be my first caucus as a Democrat. The process is quite different and I am excited to check it out in about one year. In the meantime, I want to support the candidate that has the best chance to defeat Trump. Is that Warren, O'Rourke, someone else. Biden is awfully old. Iowa wields way too much power in this process. Influence me to get your share of
  5. I get you. I feel the same way. Rock will come around again, I think, I hope. But sometimes I think Neil Young was wrong.
  6. This is why people call Wilco "dad rock".
  7. ...is busier than the other two combined.

  9. Unless we see another update, I will assume that The Chills and Janelle Monae are rude.
  10. The closest to a Wilco connection is a song by Hozier featuring Mavis Staples. Lots of great music on his list. I made a Spotify playlist. https://open.spotify.com/user/pdbiss/playlist/3vQUXsnMw5RNMwNsxxkiPK?si=fxM3oYENQe-YtiJdzo2_lA
  11. I discovered it doing my research about her. Listening now. I may like this more. The harmonies are beautiful.
  12. Discovered this on some year-end list. NPR? Greg Kot? I can't remember. Only one song in, but I love her voice, the production, and the songwriting.
  13. I, and many others I know, do the same thing with Seinfeld lines.
  14. Merry Christmas to all. I will share that I was brought to tears when I opened my tickets to Paul McCartney in Madison in June. 2019 will be my summer of Beatles and Stones with seeing the Stones at Soldier Field later that month, assuming all those senior citizens make it that long!
  15. The news of the past 24 hours has me about as rattled as any time since election night 2016. Stocks in freefall (maybe stabilizing today), Mattis leaving, Trump drawing a line in the sand to fund the border wall, Whitaker not recusing... I want Mueller's report ASAP! Also, I've been thinking about what happens if impeachment actually happens. It's not going to pretty. If the Senate votes to remove (I'm thinking some Rs might be feeling less loyal with Mattis leaving), I have no faith that Trump would honor that. OR, if he does, he stokes violence among the extreme MAGA heads.
  16. That Angelique Kidjo Remain in Light is something else. I really like it.
  17. I teach 7th-grade social studies in suburban Des Moines. This is my 26th year.
  18. David Byrne - Des Moines Civic Center Sturgill Simpson - Hinterland Festival, St. Charles, Iowa Margo Price - Hinterland Festival Rufus Wainwright - Hoyt Sherman Place, Des Moines Peter & Paul (RIP Mary) - Hoyt Sherman Place
  19. Today the power was out at my school for about an hour. A squirrel messing with a sub-station is the reported cause.
