i spent three days blitzing paris a year ago, and here is what i hit: the seine/notre dame boat ride at dusk, coming back to see la tour eiffel bejeweled in front of the night sky is a must. the louvre is very cool...but very overwhelming. i would need like three months (or more) to satisfy my curiosity in that place. montmartre was a definite highlight for me. i went before the sunset and after an early dinner and spent most of the dusk and night up there just hanging out, watching the artists, drinking in bars, and seeing the paris skyline at night. i did not go inside sacre couer...bu

generally, shin splints are an overuse injury and crop up either when you are running too frequently OR increasing mileage too drastically. you have to build up your shin muscle gradually to the stresses of running to avoid this painful and irritating condition.

i was also converted into an instant bbj fan when he and his band opened for son volt when they were touring smaller venues behind the search. as i said, i went for son volt, having never seen them, but being a fan of wilco first, then discovering uncle tupelo, then finding son volt and becoming enamored with trace...i digress...i went to see son volt and bobby bare,jr opened...and completely rocked out!! i had never heard of this guy, nor his father, and i loved all of his stuff, leaving the show with a coupla albums. by the way, son volt was damn near awful.

easy, now...it's my home state too, but i still live here by choice! it's beautiful here, especially this time of year. as far as "wingnuts" go, well, you'll find those wherever you go, anywhere.

living in tennessee, this has been on the news a lot. ridiculous. 'nuf said.

oh! i almost got this one! i'll def. get it now. thanks for the recs, and glad you liked the tropper. this thread has really inspired me to read more since about june...now it's become a habit again. in fact, yesterday, i found myself "fantasizing" about when i would be able to sit down and read. that's when you know you are getting older... no matter. it makes me happy!

i must disagree. different strokes. in agreement, however, on the IT crowd.

i will take you up on that offer of author recs. halfway through and liking it! interesting writing...so far has really captured interoffice relationships well.

i am indeed referring to the mighty boosh! tweedy's a fan, eh? i knew i liked that guy for some reason. i have never heard these cds...so i will have to check them out. i would have also like to have witnessed their traveling show. are these guys up to anything these days? i heard, at some point, that they were considering a boosh movie, but...(here's where i pull it full circle)...maybe, tweedy and the boosh are collaborating and that's why we haven't heard new material from both for a while. (i kid about the collaboration...although new material from both, respectively, would be the k

A thread where you recommend NEW music to PopTodd
welch79 replied to PopTodd's topic in Someone Else's Song
downloaded his album from itunes tonight. i will check it out on my commute in the am. -
agreed. it was a little forced in that episode. especially for an album that could be described as "a little forced." maybe it was snarky, intellectual commentary on the album?? doubt it. anyway, yeah.

always a good watch!

i love the boosh!

this is off topic, but some of you have alluded to the benefits of working out and eating well in concert. here are some things to consider: two things that really, really pack on the pounds: sodium and processed sugar, both of which are found in massively high quantities in the american diet. calories from fat (as long as it isn't from synthesized fats...think margarine), aren't as big a deal as "they" have made them to be in diet. in fact, if you consume "low fat" goods, probably they have more sugar/sodium to make up for the "low flavor." and, lower fat foods also can equal lower vit

this band was featured on the nbc show parenthood last week (watch it on hulu!). not sure how you feel about this show, i have enjoyed it, but most of the music they feature is indie in nature and good. whoever is doing the writing has good musical taste. some artists whom have had tracks featured from past episodes (now in season two): ray lamontagne's new album, the avett brothers, drew holcomb and the neighbors, amos lee... those are just off the top of my head.

??? (psst, guys? is this poster just trying to incite an attack for attention? should we just ignore it just as this poster has obviously ignored the loads of great material this band has released, pretty consistently i might add, for 20 years?? you think he/she heard me or did the parentheses keep the sound muffled enough?)

i am not quite sure how much of this post was sarcastic, ironic or passive aggressive (i would wager at least 50%), but either way, it succeeded in coaxing a chuckle out of me which is more than i though i would be getting in the way of a reward after reading the entirety of this thread. all that to say: well played.

as sophomoric as it is...that's one of the funniest movies i've seen, and this guy's role in it is key to it all "working." "both of you want to punch me in the face right now, don't you??"
-
i just took a trip down memory lane on some of these too...funny stuff.

good words. there are certain aspects that i don't particularly care for, but then i think about the friends and family i have been able to reconnect with using this tool, and i think that it has a justified existence. that's exactly what it is: a tool. a gun is a tool, too, btw. and, apparently, so too are some posters on this here thread.

calvino, you beat me to suggesting this. it's a good one to start with, then when you find the ones you really dig, go dredge up the particular album that track was originally found on. i'll tell ya, though: you can't go wrong. their stuff is damn good.

i also liked him in crazy heart. sounds like i need to check out mescalito as well.

great show. two 80 minute sets. wow.

just watched the cabin fever dvd last night and really enjoyed it. watching it made me appreciate the songs on until the frost...more. i was prepping for their knoxville show tonight, which i am fortunate enough to have two pretty good tickets. can't wait.
