  1. For sure...saw him at Chicagofest many moons ago... Winter in America....great song... LouieB
  2. Actually that would be Toyota...which was what all four of my stolen cars were.... LouieB
  3. Good suggestion...or Craigs list or...... LouieB
  4. Best looking car thief ever... LouieB
  5. I only have two short things to say on this.... 1. Countless bootleg LPs were produced from shows broadcast over the radio. 2. I have bought countless review copies of CDs over the years from folks who dumped them at used record stores. So it goes.... LouieB
  6. So these ads DO work....glad you are deciding not to steal one. This particular ad does seem to have more music than the others I have seen. You may want to consult Consumer Reports prior to buying a new car rather than trusting your favorite rock group. LouieB
  7. Actually many of Curtis' songs are better than half the songs on that list. LouieB
  8. All of this is pretty harmless I suppose and more of a warning that leaving your keys in an unlocked car is kind of stupid. But as someone who has had four cars stolen, I don't find car theft funny in any way. VW is really working hard on getting people to buy their cars if they think that their cars are so cool that it will make a thief decide to take a car back just because people dig them so much. LouieB
  9. TG started this thread so I didn't have to. I have to say I have not been very bothered by this VW stuff up to this point and i know it isn't Wilco's decision on the content of these commercials and despite the sunny and postive twist in this commercial, it is still fairly lame. The car wasn't hot wired, so I guess the two lessons from this 1. don't leave your keys in the car and 2. if you do, hope the thief has good taste in music and a concience. Either way, this ad is creepy..... LouieB
  10. They do, although alcohol is officially not supposed to be consumed in parks in Chicago..(yea right...) Somehow 10,000 at the Pritzger sounds like a zoo....I hope I can get a ticket to this this despite that.....now..when is that Ft. Wayne show?? LouieB
  11. Glenn Gould the Goldberg Variations...Version 2.0 LouieB
  12. Agreed. Great record... LouieB
  13. As far as adding to protest songs, Phil Ochs alone wrote handfuls of great protest songs as did Tom Paxton and any number of songwriters during the 60s. I don't think this type of song was even called a protest song much before that. Hell "Ohio" is still one of the great rock protest songs. LouieB
  14. Written by the legendary PF Sloan....I am not sure how old he was....let's check Wikipedia.....looks like he was 20 at the time...I do belive I have a copy of that LP in my collection. I also have one of the versions of Jimmy Webb's tribute to PF on LP, one of the best songs he ever wrote. Kind of like the precursor to the Replacements tribute to Alex Chilton. LouieB
  15. It is always nice to see a "real" encore instead of the hundreds of fake ones we all see. LouieB
  16. This list is the lamest thing ever.....there are tons of great "protest" songs; what about John Lennon, etc. Maggie's Farm is not a protest song, The Lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll IS a protest song. Say it Loud is also not a protest song.... LouieB
  17. Actually I did look at all these songs even though I made a joke about the website issue. Some of these songs aren't really protest songs. Many of them are topical to be sure, but don't seem to be "protesting" anything. LouieB
  18. How about a protest song about a list you have to open each individual window to get to protest songs....worst content web design issue ever (all I had to do was get to Green Day and I gave up......I gave up after Garth Brooks....) LouieB
  19. He is one of the best guitarists of MY generation (talkin about my gggggeneration....) Prior to joining Wilco he was certianly one of the best little known guitarists of anyone's generation. LouieB
  20. Not sure...it was stuck in an article with stuff about Eric Clapton. LouieB
  21. Well this was in the Trib this morning so I guess it is official. LouieB
  22. If you say so......frankly after three days of music, I had no intention of sticking around and seeing them. Maybe you can enlighten me on how they are one of the most influential groups of all time. I heard enough of them to find them pretty standard hiphop/soul/pop and several other people couldn't understand why they were wrapping this thing up. Actually the place was clearing out pretty fast when they came on (which also happened with Yoko since many people had no idea what she was going to do and were pretty freaked out.) What was De La Soul's big hit single (or singles), I can't reme
  23. I got word I was going pretty late, although I posted up right away I was there. I thought the record selling was pretty overwhelming from a browsing point of view (I bought some stuff at other vendors), but I had a ball selling and talking to people about various albums we had in the crates. It was amazing to ask people where they were from. Very fun. Some guy on day two wanted a copy of a Toto album.... LouieB
  24. I was there as well. First the weather - It drizzled a bit at the beginning of the set, but then it held off until after the show when it rained cats and dogs. Good karma for Chicago. The place was packed, but there were plenty of good seats to be had in the pavillion area, just not in the front sections which were resevered for "members" and dignitaries. The sound was good, but here is my take..... The Decemberists got lost in the Orchestra. There seems to be no point to having a band play in front of an orchestra unless you are going to bring the actual band up loud enough to be heard
