Good article, thanks for posting that. Although "bruised Americana" did make me cringe a bit. Yeah, the owl is awesome. Macrame. Which is a strange word that I often still get confused with macabre. This can be embarrassing. Nels also used to have some kind of fuzzy standup doll thingie on one of his amps. Like the thing you throw baseballs at to win a cupie doll at the carnival. I didn't see that one last time.

So how do you hipsters feel about this?

Happy to share... it really didn't work for me last time. -

yeah, same here. it's a daily pain in the ass (no, not literally). but I look like a old homeless guy after 2 days of not shaving, and the last time I grew a beard it came in really gray. I have enough gray hair without cultivating more. -
Was it just the lighting, or did he really wear a purple pimp hat?

Seemed like a long-winded trip to nowhere, really. But I guess that an article that talks about the mediocrity-ness of music would not be all that interesting by definition. Kinda like holding up the word 'meh' into one of those infinity mirrors.

kinda hard to disagree with that. it's the one that best says "OK, get ready for something you never thought you'd hear, let alone hear and love". definitely some other very good contenders for that role, but only one best.

1,2,3, what are we fighting for?

what's the story on this remix version that popped up this week? Any good?

Bands you wish that you had seen, but missed the chance

I can relate to that. I kinda fell out of concerts after college for a while. I didn't really get back into going until Springsteen in 2002(?) and then the Wilco obsession began and I haven't looked back since! -

No! But thanks for asking. -
I'm listening to the recording of that show now, and John's bass line in this song is outstanding. I don't hear it as much on the album, but this particular live version really sounds sweet.

Great headphone record.

Privilege, indeed.... nice read.

The Portable Residency Tour?

Only 4 or 5 minutes worth. Could have been longer for me, but it was a great intro for aoa.

Face it, we're spoiled. Keeping in mind that the new record was officially released all of 7 days ago, it seems pretty normal to me that 1/3 or so of the setlist is promoting the new record. The rest of it will likely move around a little more as the tour wears on. It did something similar the last couple times iirc; they haven't been on the road that long after a longer than average break for them. They'll stretch out a little more. LTYT as an opener seemed like a "hey, I'll betcha this might work" moment.

Indeed... I plan to start referring to myself as "charmingly out of place".

I gotta admit, when he played (opened with?) Stop Light Roses on night one in Nashville, we both thought "really?" I did like some of his other songs, and his version of Allison is really, really sweet. He's a hoot. No two ways about it. But I don't think I would spin his latest record more than once or twice.

Man that was fun! Pot Kettle Black and I Love My Label were absolute rawkers. Great crowd in my vicinity (again). I thought that opening with Less Than You Think was inspired. I would have loved to have heard a full length drone. I was just starting to pick out the gorgeous little bits from Glenn and maybe Mikael when it wandered into Almost. The setlist was great both nights... I'd hate to pick one over the other. Only one negative... I still think that the lights and fog are overdone for a Wilco show. It's just not necessary when the music is so far over and above anything else out

Official Mikael Jorgensen appreciation thread

He did a particularly nice job on vocals on I Might. A stellar "Brutha" and "Mutha". And a few oooo's and ahhh's from something else last night. I think he could sing some more and that would be ok. -
What a great venue! First time for me to be at the Ryman, and it's a really intimate place. Very compact in a lot of ways. Hard to describe. The crowd was great. The main floor was standing pretty much the whole time. No talkers in my vicinity, and no "sit down" whiners!! Bless you all... and feel free to stand around us again tonight. The new songs sounded terrific. The encore set was a nice set of rockers which was a ton of fun. No nudie suits, but Jeff was sporting a nice little hat. I thought the sound was a little low early in the show, but get where it needed to be about h

fair question.... I just really don't get the dual drummer thing. I can't hear anything added to the music. Seems like a gimmick.

I don't know you. But you're still wrong.

Our local guy is a pretty big Wilco fan.
