  1. Underwhelmed overall... I was excited about an instrumental, but Speak Into the Rose isn't quite what I was hoping for. It's good, but the synth beat sounds just like the one that Mikael uses in the latest live version of Spiders. Mid Bar sounds like something they threw out so that the record wouldn't sound too much like alt-country. The alt version of Black Moon is nothing interesting at all once you've heard the album version with the strings.
  2. I recall the old website would show you which songs had the most votes up until (or maybe even after) the show. I don't see that now on the new one. If it's on FB, then someone else will have to check. I also recall that there were quite a few regulars on the top of the list normally, and not too many obscure ones. So it seemed that it wasn't just us deep-catalog VC freaks doing the voting. I concur.
  3. I can hear that "fingerprint" thing too. I think it's more natural and relaxed this time as well. Especially John's bass lines. But everybody, really. I was listening to You Are My Face the other day, and you can also hear everyone on that song too. But it feels a lot more forced, like everyone is trying to get in the picture somehow. Like picture day at the all star game. It just didn't work as well on SBS or WTA as it does on this record.
  4. What was the second song they played on SNL last night? The first was Lotus Flower but I didn't recognize the other one. And fwiw, I think SNL really sucks for the most part. Most of it just isnt funny.
  5. I sure hope not. Not that I begrudge them any success, but I really love the intimacy and the (usually) great sound in a nice small theater setting.
  6. Arrived today in Kentucky. I was a little late on the pre-order, just ordered it early Sept. Cheapo shipping. Very happy to get it earlier than Tuesday!!
  7. I like it. A lot. And not just because it's the strongest song on a less than strong album. I love the three guitar assault, and the underpinning that Pat gives with his part. Someone here called it the bastard love child of Via Chicago and Spiders, which I think is a very good description. I'd call it a keeper on the setlist.
  8. The gatefold looks like they used the same box of Crayola's that The National used for High Violet
  9. Lotti is certainly a tough act to follow, but congratulations to you both!! That sounds like a whole lotta work to get to that point. And a whole lot still to go...
  10. something I noticed watching this last night: John's favorite song seems to be whatever song he's playing right now. He is all in, all the time. Glenn, too... but John just seems to love what he's doing on every song.
  11. Wonder what they'll play on the show tonight? I'll guess Dawned on Me.
  12. I think IG gets better with age. And it was pretty good to begin with...
  13. Man, that Nels dude plays some seriously worn out geetars.
  14. Great read. There are some really interesting people in this band... Stupid question: Did the Pat/John AD thing precede Pat's joining Wilco?
  15. Perhaps you would like to share with the rest of the class?
  16. squeak, squawk, squiggle... I heard it early on as well, and thought it was more of a "peek" than anything. Just a couple notes to put out there and say "hey", but then disappear again. Bit of a tease, maybe. As if a 12 minute song needs some complete stray dog popping in just because it can. I have never heard the boing in Far Far Away.
  17. The following shall not be skipped: Via Chicago Shot in the Arm Thank you, tas
  18. So how's the new record? Released yesterday, right?
  19. but wow, that would pretty much set the kids on fire, no?
  20. I thought we weren't supposed to know this yet?
