  1. Face it, we're spoiled. Keeping in mind that the new record was officially released all of 7 days ago, it seems pretty normal to me that 1/3 or so of the setlist is promoting the new record. The rest of it will likely move around a little more as the tour wears on. It did something similar the last couple times iirc; they haven't been on the road that long after a longer than average break for them. They'll stretch out a little more. LTYT as an opener seemed like a "hey, I'll betcha this might work" moment.
  2. Indeed... I plan to start referring to myself as "charmingly out of place".
  3. I gotta admit, when he played (opened with?) Stop Light Roses on night one in Nashville, we both thought "really?" I did like some of his other songs, and his version of Allison is really, really sweet. He's a hoot. No two ways about it. But I don't think I would spin his latest record more than once or twice.
  4. Man that was fun! Pot Kettle Black and I Love My Label were absolute rawkers. Great crowd in my vicinity (again). I thought that opening with Less Than You Think was inspired. I would have loved to have heard a full length drone. I was just starting to pick out the gorgeous little bits from Glenn and maybe Mikael when it wandered into Almost. The setlist was great both nights... I'd hate to pick one over the other. Only one negative... I still think that the lights and fog are overdone for a Wilco show. It's just not necessary when the music is so far over and above anything else out
  5. He did a particularly nice job on vocals on I Might. A stellar "Brutha" and "Mutha". And a few oooo's and ahhh's from something else last night. I think he could sing some more and that would be ok.
  6. What a great venue! First time for me to be at the Ryman, and it's a really intimate place. Very compact in a lot of ways. Hard to describe. The crowd was great. The main floor was standing pretty much the whole time. No talkers in my vicinity, and no "sit down" whiners!! Bless you all... and feel free to stand around us again tonight. The new songs sounded terrific. The encore set was a nice set of rockers which was a ton of fun. No nudie suits, but Jeff was sporting a nice little hat. I thought the sound was a little low early in the show, but get where it needed to be about h
  7. fair question.... I just really don't get the dual drummer thing. I can't hear anything added to the music. Seems like a gimmick.
  8. See, that's where you're wrong. We all listen to Wilco to pick up chicks and impress people at cocktail parties.
  9. I watched the clips on billboard last night, and I was less impressed with the live versions of Little by Little and Morning Mr Magpie. I thought Thom's guitar parts were kinda sloppy and ragged (and not in a good way), and that the whole thing was a little too garage-band for Radiohead. I also like the album, but the live interpretations from this show weren't very promising. I've seen them live, and they do fabulous things with tracks that I never expected to translate well live from Kia A / Amnesiac / In Rainbows. But the stuff this time was disappointing. Codex was good, though. Tha
  10. I like the drone. I don't listen to it every time I listen to the album, but I prolly do half the time. There was a similar thread on this topic a few months back. The drone from the residency shows was really good. I think it was night 5. If you are a drone fan then you should definitely check that out.
  11. Let's review: Nashville night 1: Kingpin Nashville night 2: It's Just That Simple Remember, vote early and often. WE CAN DO IT PEOPLE!
  12. See also: "twitter" Can we get back to talking about this Wilco thing now?
  13. Underwhelmed overall... I was excited about an instrumental, but Speak Into the Rose isn't quite what I was hoping for. It's good, but the synth beat sounds just like the one that Mikael uses in the latest live version of Spiders. Mid Bar sounds like something they threw out so that the record wouldn't sound too much like alt-country. The alt version of Black Moon is nothing interesting at all once you've heard the album version with the strings.
  14. I recall the old website would show you which songs had the most votes up until (or maybe even after) the show. I don't see that now on the new one. If it's on FB, then someone else will have to check. I also recall that there were quite a few regulars on the top of the list normally, and not too many obscure ones. So it seemed that it wasn't just us deep-catalog VC freaks doing the voting. I concur.
  15. I can hear that "fingerprint" thing too. I think it's more natural and relaxed this time as well. Especially John's bass lines. But everybody, really. I was listening to You Are My Face the other day, and you can also hear everyone on that song too. But it feels a lot more forced, like everyone is trying to get in the picture somehow. Like picture day at the all star game. It just didn't work as well on SBS or WTA as it does on this record.
  16. What was the second song they played on SNL last night? The first was Lotus Flower but I didn't recognize the other one. And fwiw, I think SNL really sucks for the most part. Most of it just isnt funny.
  17. I sure hope not. Not that I begrudge them any success, but I really love the intimacy and the (usually) great sound in a nice small theater setting.
  18. Arrived today in Kentucky. I was a little late on the pre-order, just ordered it early Sept. Cheapo shipping. Very happy to get it earlier than Tuesday!!
  19. I like it. A lot. And not just because it's the strongest song on a less than strong album. I love the three guitar assault, and the underpinning that Pat gives with his part. Someone here called it the bastard love child of Via Chicago and Spiders, which I think is a very good description. I'd call it a keeper on the setlist.
