Suggestions to replace a dying 160gb iPod Classic?
Plumplechook replied to Magnetized's topic in Someone Else's Song
A few years ago I began ripping my CD collection to lossless FLAC format. Now I exclusively play my music at home through a computer connected to my stereo using JRiver media center – which is kind of like iTunes but better. It has a handy phone app called JRemote that allows you to scroll through your music library and control playback from the phone. Problem was I wanted to be able to access my music library while away from home – and with almost two terrabytes of music there’s no way I was going to fit that on my phone, even after converting to mp3. But then I found that JRemote allow -

May as well save time by handing the trophy to the All Blacks right now. Looking forward to it - and hoping for either an Ireland v NZ or England v NZ final.

How do you listen to your music during the day?

I ripped all my CDs to FLAC files and have a laptop hooked up to my stereo playing music through an application called JRiver Media Center. It's like iTunes but a lot better. I can control it remotely through an app on my iPhone called JRemote - which also provides the option of streaming music from the laptop to the phone. So that's what I use when I am in the car or at my desk at work - using JRemote to stream music from my home system to my phone. Because it's streaming lossless files the sound quality is great - and it gives me access to my entire music collection wherever I am (includ -
It was this version of Alfie recorded with Burt Bacharach at Abbey Road that made me realize what a terrific singer she was. RIP. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZAuoNa5g6i8

One of the great bass players. Totally original and distinctive style. Very sad.

Terrific. I loved their last one but this is even better. Some classic Built To Spill guitar epics - no one does it quite like them.

More Wilco-inspired beverage from the Yeastie Boys.

This list of top 10 beers inspired by music includes 'Pot Kettle Black' from Kiwi craft beer makers The Yeastie Boys. I think they presented Wilco with a case of this last time they toured NZ. http://tapsmagazine.com/taps-list-10-beer-name-inspired-by-music/ http://www.yeastieboys.co.nz/beer/PKB/

Exactly. Do the mods here have an opinion on trolls who have only signed up in the last couple of days so they can dump on the band with the same discredited talking points? Paste Magazine published an excellent piece yesterday on Wilco's decision to cancel and the 'concern trolling' that followed - a lot of which we've seen on here the last few days. http://www.pastemagazine.com/articles/2015/03/wilco-and-the-concern-trolls-tweedy-and-co-cancel.html In the article Shane Ryan does a great job of demolishing the troll talking points - as per the extract below: Let’s take these point by

This. I think Stephen King put it most succinctly in a Twitter posting yesterday: 'Indiana's Religious Freedom Restoration act is gay discrimination, pure and simple. You can frost a dog turd, but it's still a dog turd'. Gotta love the trolls who've signed up here in the last couple of days just to dump on the band (all using the same discredited talking points).

Yep - Jeff and the boys are going to very upset about alienating homophobes and other hate-mongers. I'm enjoying the Facebook and Twitter backlash. Some real gems there. Most along the lines of 'who is this Wilco guy anyway?'.

Really proud of Wilco for this. Fuck Indiana politicians and their state-sanctioned hate laws.

I still buy CDs but immediately burn them to a hard drive in lossless format. I do all my home listening via the hard drive/computer linked to the stereo. It was time consuming when I first ripped my CD collection to digital but it's so much more convenient - particularly because I can now browse and control the stereo from my smart phone (using JRiver media player on the computer and the JRemote app on the iPhone). I find myself listening to a lot more music now than when I had to mess with CDs. Still use CDs in my car though.
