Happy day, Dunja!

Congrats to Loretta and Jamila and all the finalists! Lots of lovely pics. And I'd like to hear more about the shoes, please.

Madeleine L'Engle 1918-2007 Her books are some of my all-time favorites.

Is "Little Boxes" the Weeds theme? I have not seen Weeds, but I just got an e-mail from the Decemberists with a link to their cover: Weeds website. Little Boxes was written about the town where I grew up: Yay Daly City! Yep, just look at all those ticky-tacky little boxes...

What the hell did Popeye Doyle mean by "picking your feet in Poughkeepsie", anyway? I don't remember seeing a poster, either. And I'm pretty sure I would have bought one if there was one available, having spent some quality time in Poughkeepsie, myself.

At the Frames show last night, we noticed a lot of older people there (we suspect that they were fans of the movie, and were curious about the full band). At one point, the 60+(ish) man standing in front of us turned to his companions, a man and woman about the same age, and said, seemingly without irony, "Ha ha, did you hear that? Someone just yelled 'Freebird!' That's hilarious!" This was obviously someone who had not attended a concert at any point in the last 25 years or so.

I got nothin'. I'll check him out.

I can't possibly top the etch-a-sketch! Happy day, Sam!

Yay! I think there was more than one taper there, so there may be other versions popping up, but here's one, anyway.

I've been told at most venues, no professional cameras, by which they mean nothing with detachable lenses. Most of the time the tickets say "no cameras", and sometimes it's the venue's decision. But I've been told by security at a couple of different places that they have a briefing before the show to go over things like the band's camera and taping policies, so in those cases you're OK.
-
I agree, I doubt they're going to go by strict numerical voting. I think they're going to look for rarities that have cool reasons behind them, and that they feel like playing.
-
I'm skeptical of this as a consumer hazard. Definitely a concern for workers, though: Popcorn Workers Lung Disease Prevention Act

I think the smaller the group of people making the requests, the more likely you are to get rarities (check out the setlists from some of the Living Room Shows). But when you open it up to the whole world, people who don't see Wilco on a regular basis, or who haven't ever seen them live, are more likely than the "hardcore" fans to think along the lines of "I'd really love to hear Shot in the Arm". So if they just take the songs with the highest total number of votes, you might end up with a pretty bland setlist.
-
Yeah, somebody should really go in and edit that list. You can also request Billy Bragg's Mermaid Avenue songs. If they do "Unwelcome Guest", I'll totally make it worth their while.
-
Yeah, I had heard that too, that he was definitely a "strictly strictly" bluegrass guy. I had also heard that he didn't think women could/should play bluegrass, but who knows if that's true?
-
That's why it's "hardly strictly", silly! Note to new folks and/or folks who don't check in as often as some of us do ( ): After the Show is generally reserved for reports about shows that have already happened. For announcements or discussions of upcoming Wilco or Wilco-related shows, please check out Just a Fan.

Maybe Wilco was asked and didn't want to do it? (I don't think this is true, I have no idea what the deal is here, I'm just throwing out a hypothetical situation.) Maybe Wilco wanted to do it, but wasn't available on the one night that worked for every other artist they wanted, or on the one night that the perfect venue was available? Again, I don't know, I just think there are situations where it might be OK that they do this event without Wilco. Lou, it's not exactly what you're looking for (and I doubt it's comprehensive), but there are some sections in the woodyguthrie.org store tha

Oh-so-many reasons to love FNL. Add Muzzle of Bees to mix, and I must just die of happiness. I haven't seen the preview yet, but I'll be looking for it now!

Happiest of happy days, Johnny!

Poppy, welcome to VC! I also missed out on getting a poster. Sometimes whatever's left over will show up in the musictoday shop, but I don't know about this one, since it did appear to be sold out. We may be stuck with eBay.

You're really making friends and influencing people in this thread, aren't you? I'm going to take this one as "a joke", but seriously, simmer down or expect the moderators to start telling you how much you suck ass. More importantly, yay Brennan! I'm downloading his recording now!

I shut down the old Now Watching and MLB threads yesterday, because they were both over 500 posts. I was going to let this one go if it was still vaguely on-topic, but since most of the posts on this last page are decidedly off-topic, it's going down. Again, this is an administrative move, nothing to do with shutting down discussion of the topic at hand (if anyone can remember what that was). Feel free to open a new thread if you still want to have at it.

There's been some discussion in other threads (looks like some of the UK VCers are listening to them, anyway). That's a hard one to search for, you definitely get stuff unrelated to "Cherry Ghost".
