Is the Compact Disk (CD) Dead?
tinnitus photography replied to anthony's topic in Someone Else's Song
more often than not, a new LP will come w/ a digital download card. and if it didn't come with one, there are a lot of ways to source mp3s... -
i would LOVE to hear that song. certainly one of my favorites, from any band.
-
i stopped by my local location of Newbury Comics today and they had a sale on metal cds...got these: candlemass - essential doom 1349 - works of fire, forces of hell pre-electric wizard 1989-94 and the new High on Fire from Best Buy, since that edition has 3 exclusive tracks.

i am all over the EVOL repress...

wilco is twice as good as my morning jacket.

has jackson brown's chin always been that fucked up, or has he been going to Jacko's surgeon?
-
the lineup that played last night was most of the original guys...we all know Ron died last year, but James Williamson was onboard for _Raw Power_, and Dave Alexander died years and years ago...Watt's been in the live lineup for a while now. plus they had Steve Mackay on sax, who played on _Funhouse_. drag _Funhouse_ out of its dusty hiding spot and crank that bitch. one of the best rock records ever.

a smattering of shots from the Scion Fest which happened last Saturday in Columbus Ohio... full gallery and review: http://www.prefixmag.com/photos/scion-rock-fest-columbus-oh-picsreview/ Deadsea (psych/metal/rumble) D.R.I. (old school hardcore/thrash) Thou (deranged Louisianiers) YOB (doom of the highest order) Shrinebuilder (metal über-group)

i am working on photos from the Scion thing, but my wife DVR'd the Stooges songs, and i just watched 'em. fucking awesome. C'MON RICH PEOPLE. how the FUCK can someone be sitting down on the ass of their multi-thousand Armani suit when "search and destroy" and "i wanna be yr dog" get played? at least Iggy coaxed a few on stage w/ him. most of the fucks in the audience didn't even know the words to the song.

Thanks Moss! hardcore is a variant which grew out of punk rock...the tempo became much faster and the music harder. some of the early practitioners were bands like Black Flag (later era), Negative Approach, Dead Kennedys, Die Kreuzen, as well as UK bands like Discharge, GBH, etc. At least that's the hardcore i remember. i lost interest in the mid to late 80s, but still like to listen to it occasionally.

i shot Coalesce and D.R.I. last week...does that count?

yeah, that's a great song. i am totally partial the 1st two records and the early EPs.
-
i am definitely partial to early B&S but am shocked that no one's included "String Bean Jean" yet. love that song and as always the lyrics are perfect. this is a very interesting read on vinyl and pricing, esp from the perspective of a small label: http://terminal-boredom.com/forums/index.php?topic=22102.0

i was half-toying w/ trying to get one of the last tickets for this, but ended up not just staying home. -
i've only seen Ween once but i would definitely go again. really fun show.
-
it's good. and they are great live. i'm a bit pissed that their boston date conflicts w/ the Wilco show.
-
really? Sabbath not a metal band? To me that's like saying the Beatles weren't a British Invasion band (well, that's not such a great analogy...I suppose that today's connotations of a 'metal band' are far different from 1970's). Seriously though I think Sabbath is ground zero. I read a very good book over my vacation that covered the history of metal: http://www.soundofthebeast.com/news.html some good stuff in there, loads I didn't know. and I am off to see Kreator/Voivod/Nachtmystium this Friday.

i recall hearing of this band from Tim Adams when he ran Ajax distro/label in the 90s. they have played Boston a couple of times recently but i have missed 'em. maybe next time.
