YES!!! Great choice. "Yellow" has got to be one of the all-time great songs about divorce. I'll add these to what others have written... anything and everything by The Mendoza Line (a criminally underrated band in my humble opinion; Tim Bracy deserves far more credit than he receives) REM- Up Pearl Jam- Riot Act Buck Pets- Mercurochrome Smudge- Manilow and Tea, Toast and Turmoil (these guys did the Lemonheads sound better than the Lemonheads) anything and everything by Beatnik Filmstars (the British Guided by Voices, with a bit of The Fall and Wire thrown in too) Son Volt- Wide Swing Treme

I Threw It All Away (Dylan cover) I Heard You Looking Big Day Coming (fast) Double Dare Nowhere Near bonus 6th-favorite song: Sudden Organ Y'all can probably guess which YLT album is my favorite. I saw these guys on tour promoting Painful back in 1993 or 1994. One of the best concerts of my life.

Emily Raboteau's The Professor's Daughter is a pretty darn good novel. I've been reading and re-reading a bunch of Stewart O'Nan lately. That guy is one hell of a writer. I highly recommend The Names of the Dead, Wish You Were Here, and especially Snow Angels but all of his stuff is flat-out wonderful. A good non-fiction book to look forward to later this year is John Lennon: The Life, by Philip Norman. It's 800 pages long, but it's fascinating. Lots and lots of pre-Beatles and post-Beatles stuff, along with the usual 1961-1970 coverage. Norman digs up some good dirt about John's relation

Mother, you had me but I never had you, I wanted you but you didn't want me, So I got to tell you, Goodbye, goodbye. Farther, you left me but I never left you, I needed you but you didn't need me, So I got to tell you, Goodbye, goodbye. Children, don't do what I have done, I couldn't walk and I tried to run, So I got to tell you, Goodbye, goodbye. Mama don't go, Daddy come home. Mama don't go, Daddy come home. Mama don't go, Daddy come home. Mama don't go, Daddy come home. Mama don't go, Daddy come home. Mama don't go, Daddy come home. Mama don't go, Daddy come home...

The insanely beautifiul "14 Cheerleader Coldfront" by the remarkably talented Guided by Voices. Also, GbV's "#2 in the Model Home Series," "Blimps Go 90," and "158 Years of Beautiful Sex." As far as band names go, there's Small 23, which became Small. There's some sort of Superchunk connection that I can't quite remember right now. They were a cool Chapel Hill band whose sound was very Archers of Loaf-ish and Superchunk-ish, and come to think of it, I'm pretty sure Superchunk's Chuck Garrison and Archers of Loaf's Eric Bachmann were in that band at some point. And let's not forget the underr

I bet that Bob writing and recording with an honest-to-goodness band again will do him wonders. I love the recent solo stuff, plus Circus Devils, Keene Brothers, Takeovers, Psycho and the Birds, etc., but I've got a feeling Boston Spaceships is gonna be even better than all that. If the one Boston Spaceships song I've heard is any indication, Brown Submarine is gonna be GREAT. "Go for the Exit" is available at www.bostonspaceships.com. It's a fuckin' great song in my humble opinion, but I've been a Bob fan since 1993 and there's very little stuff he's done since then that I haven't flat-out

Tracklistings for all three July reissues are now available at u2.com. I, for one, can't wait.
-
I'm surprised Unforgettable Fire isn't being reissued along with all those other early U2 albums.

With all due respect, I wouldn't call a remastered 11-song album with 14 bonus tracks (some previously unreleased in any format) a "slightly different form." I'm happy about what U2 is doing, but maybe that's just cuz I'm a long-time fan who hasn't yet heard a bunch, if not all, of those bonus tracks.

Too bad Yeastie Girlz is taken. Maybe you could go with Yeastie Girlz UK or Yeastie Girlz, Jr. to avoid lawsuits.

I think the only 2008 releases I've bought so far are Malkmus (good but probably not something I'm going to listen to a lot) and Robert Pollard (not all that good, frankly). I'll be getting the new Psycho and the Birds CD any day now, and that's supposed to be pretty good. But there's a bunch of sure-to-be-great stuff coming out later this year that I'm really looking forward to: Centro-matic/South San Gabriel (woo hoo!!!; I can't fuckin' wait for this thing) My Morning Jacket Beatnik Filmstars Robert Pollard (the next one has GOT to better than the last one) M. Ward Capstan Shafts Plus, t

I wonder how much that appearance boosted sales of Sky Blue Sky. It's currently #63 on Amazon's bestsellers list, below a Nick Lowe reissue and above a Garth Brooks greatest hits album. I should've checked its ranking before SNL.

Cool idea, but I think I would only do it as a gift for a loved one if she was a big fan of the artist.

Sittin' around with my homemade bone I'm naked and loose when no one's home And I may let my fingers roam Juicing free on my holy bone Here I am, on my knees Praying to the beast that stole the sex from me I see something we should do If you need one, then you need two I won't hold back, so why should you? I won't hold back, so why should you? Here I am, on my knees With nothing to blame but my curiosity It got the best of me There's still pictures in my mind I've been addicted all this time Taught me everything I know Tell me, girl, did it leave me cold? Here I am, on my knees With nothing to

"Soul and Fire" by Sebadoh It's all a matter of soul and fire. Infatuation or true desire. The thrill of discovery, divine intervention; cruel, cruel change, pain of rejection. As you walk away think of all the joy we shared. If you decide you need me, I'll be wondering if I care... Not there to soothe your soul, friend to tender friend. I think our love is coming to an end. King persuader, congratulations. You share her heart, you bought her soul Princess confusion come to me again. Saying goodbye was so much fun. When you walk away feel the freedom in your heart. There's a joy
