Presidential Race (Respector Edition)
Mr. Heartbreak replied to lost highway's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
That is so funny that you would do that. My original post added something like, "However, if you are on the other side of the fence, it's really okay if you stay home because you feel demoralized. Please, feel free to sit this one out." My internal editor got the better of me, and I deleted that part before posting. And in the financial news today.... http://www.dailyfina...-no-income-tax/ By the way, relatively to most Americans, households earning over $200K per year are rich. You may not think you are, but you know what? Rich people never think they are rich. They can always point to som -

Please, folks, don't get complacent about Obama's reelection prospects. There is still plenty of time, and poll numbers may not truly reflect what people will do on November 6. We need everyone who can pitch in to do so. It will be close, and Mitt is nowhere near out of it. I know I will not be relaxed about it until it's over. -

So much for the "respector" edition. How does this person not get banned? Seriously, what are the criteria these days? Name-calling is obviously not enough. -
For anyone who downloaded the original show on this thread, it is from August 5, 1983. Don't know why but the site did not list the date, just the month...if anyone else is like me and has to have the exact date.

I agree with you. For me, Breaking Bad is the best television show ever. The Sopranos is a close second.

Top Ten Rolling Stones Songs
Mr. Heartbreak replied to Sweet Papa Crimbo's topic in Someone Else's Song
I, too, had a hard time including Tumbling Dice because there are so many other great Stones songs. And now that I'm seeing lists with Dead Flowers, Gimme Shelter and Monkey Man, I am second-guessing my list all over again. Can't we make it Top Twenty? -

The studio version is enjoyable, but my preference is for solo versions. Love, love, love this song.

That's because The Stones, The Who and Led Zep > The Black Keys, Deerhoof and Grizzly Bear.

I would love this, but so far it looks like only a couple dates in NYC and London.

Joe spent the better part of a good number of years pretty blitzed, so I suspect he gave away all sorts of stuff...perhaps in blackouts, at least part of the time.

I have been an "at-will" employee for most of my adult life, and I wish to hell I had the option of a union. To think that I could knock myself out, year after year, giving the best efforts of my life to a company, and know that they can kick me to the curb at any moment, even after 20 or 30 years...because it would be cheaper to hire some kid fresh out of college...well, let's just say it's more than a bit unsettling. When it comes to unions vs. bosses, I will blindly support any union strike, in theory at least, until someone gives me a damn good reason not to. I think the majority of work

Sometimes this thread reminds me of this, which someone posted a while back: http://youtu.be/62T9ESyOtJo

Presidential Race (Respector Edition)

That was a slow burn speech if I've ever heard one. Started out workmanlike, and then just built and built. The zingers provided some much needed comic relief. "You don’t call Russia our number one enemy — not Al-Qaeda, Russia — unless you’re still stuck in a Cold War time warp." "You might not be ready for diplomacy with Beijing if you can't visit the Olympics without insulting our closest ally." -
Listening to the Fire on the Mountain from Dead Set at work now, after playing the versions of Bertha, Mama Tried, Big Railroad Blues and Playing In the Band from Skull & Roses. Whatever happened to Big Railroad Blues? They hardly played that one in concert, it seems. They never played it between '74 and '79, and some years after that, too, they never played it at all. Underrated tune, IMHO. It's turning into a Grateful Dead afternoon here at work....

No worries. There are a few people on VC whom I permanently keep on "ignore," and yes, there is a good reason for it.

This was my exact experience here in F-L-A. I was an independent until I realized I couldn't vote in primaries here, so I decided to suck it up and register as a Dem. If not for that, I would still be registered independent. -
What I meant to express by the phrases "hospital staff" and "orderlies and whatnot" were the vast numbers of people around me, which I'm sure included all manner of x-ray technicians, radiologists, certified nursing assistants, LPNs and RNs. Since I was in the hospital for a major surgery, I was quite incurious as to anyone's formal title other than the surgeon who was about to cut me open; and since I am a polite sort, I address people as "Sir," "Ma'am," or "Miss." There was absolutely no reason why I would know or care what the titles of any of those people were, and Jules, if you think you

Whatever. Who cares?

Even people like me who haven't had kids get these moments. I had my appendix out last month, and 95% of the hospital staff looked like kids to me... It started to freak me out a little that none of them looked older than I do, and I look about 35-36 at most. Even the surgeon looked young (he was 43 or so, it turns out.) I'm guessing most of the orderlies and whatnot were about 28. Damn...

Sounds pretty kinky, I'd say. Can't you just roll around on top of the mattress?

What did people think of Michelle's speech last night? I have honestly never been as huge a fan of her as most of the country seems to be, but I thought she knocked it out of the park. It seemed truly heartfelt. The line that impressed me the most, personally, was this: A great rebuttal to the "We did build it" crap...and also a reminder, for me at least, that I did not recall hearing the words gratitude or humility once during the time I tuned in to the RNC. Just sayin' .... -
The first album I ever picked up turns 25 tomorrow..

Now that I think about it, it might have been Kiss: Alive! -
"It's a drag-ass night I'm always in love" "We could use A handful full of wheel And a day off And a bruised robe" ...and yes... "Roll me under your mattress"

I have to admit, I agreed with them on Bon Iver, Arcade Fire and Bright Eyes...especially Bright Eyes.
