Yay! Took him 25 minutes. http://www.cnn.com/2012/06/15/us/niagara-falls-tightrope-nik-wallenda/index.html?hpt=hp_c1 What a feel-good story. Amazing to see him moving step by steady step through the winds and the swirling mist!

Stay hydrated, Deb. And have a blast! It's such a cool place and the views are amazing.

I figure you are talking about me so I thought I'd drop in and say, "Hello, Wilco friend!" You are one of the best, and I join you in thanking Wilco for bringing so many amazing and dear people into my life!

Kinda cool! I'd like to hear his pure singing voice, without effects. Waiting to hear more of the album.

Damn. How incredibly sad, if true.

A friend posted this quote on fb. Had to share it: "Some day the load we're carrying with us may help someone. But even when we had the books on hand, a long time ago, we didn't use what we got out of them. We went right on insulting the dead. We went right on spitting in the graves of all the poor ones who died before us. We're going to meet a lot of lonely people in the next week and the next month and the next year. And when they ask us what we're doing, you can say, We're remembering. That's where we'll win out in the long run. And some day we'll remember so much that we'll build the bi

RIP, Ray. A brilliant writer, a brilliant thinker.

I rarely, rarely re-read a book. It's simply that I have so many books I want to read that re-reading seems like I'm frittering my reading time away. There are a few books that deserve a re-read though...usually books I read at a much younger age that I might have a different take on, today. Or books so far recessed in memory that I can't quite recall the plot. Those are almost like new books! Haha, score one for senility. I find it very hard to quit a book even when it isn't doing much for me. I guess I'm a completist. But there have been a couple of times when a book was just so bad that I

Well, sorry to be longwinded, but worth it if it gets this book read. I'd love to hear how you like it, Fritz!

I don't live in WI, but it's my dad's home state, so I feel an emotional connection. Watching Scott Walker's actions there playing out, governor vs. citizens, has horrified me...this is the very worst sort of governing, in my mind. Thanks, Beltmann, for putting my feelings into words better than I could. Good luck today, Wisconsin. And in reference to the robocalls trying to trick people into not voting...wow. That's Dick Nixon-level dirty politics. Whatever you can get away with, huh? (Weirdly enough, we've got a local guy running for some office, by the name of Richard T. Nixon. I wond

This is the description given by Amazon, but the book is so much more than this implies. "William and Molly lead a life of small pleasures, riddles at the kitchen table, and games of string and orange peels. All around them a city rages with war. When the uprising began, William’s wife was taken, leaving him alone with their young daughter. They keep their heads down and try to remain unnoticed as police patrol the streets, enforcing a curfew and arresting citizens. But when an old friend seeks William out, claiming to know what happened to his wife, William must risk everything. He ventures

We now (regretfully) return you to your regularly scheduled life.

Glenn is having a brilliant night!

hahaha Ahhhhh, MY song. Still moves me as much as the first time I heard it.

Sounding pretty damned great! Edit: that wasn't in response to you Sarah, just to the whole band blasting through Art of Almost. Wouldn't be surprised if Jeff's a bit tour-tired, but he sounds good to these ears.

That was both hard and wonderful to watch. He was a true original, and played from the heart. My husband had the privilege of working on a couple of his shows when he appeared at the University of CA, Riverside, yesrs ago. Bob was so impressed with how genuine Doc was, in every way. His music was as powerful as it was because the force of his personality deepened it. Godspeed, Doc...go entertain the angels. I hear heaven's got an amazing band!

Thanks for the wonderful music.

Hope you are all relaxing & enjoying Memorial Day!
kidsmoke replied to kidsmoke's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
We sat around and played and lost the kids' foxtail (ball with a fabric tail attached) in the neighbors' yard (I hope his dogs haven't eaten it by now!) and then BBQ'd brats & ribs & chicken. Ate too much, listened to good music, traded jokes and stories until it was late....all in all, a perfect start to the summer. Lou, that sounds like a pretty fine Memorial Day. (Calvino, sometimes a quiet evening at home is just the ticket, after running ragged the rest of the week! ) Choo choo, you are still a mere 29?!! Such a pup. Happy early birthday, and what a cool way to mark it! Your -
Happy Memorial Day, everybody. The start of the endless summer, as well as a day to give thanks in our hearts to those who sacrificed so much. Hope it's a beautiful, relaxed day for all.

Wishing Doc a full recovery, if it's possible. He's such a gem.
