  1. I'm a big fan of Patrick Park, and this year's album is wonderful all the way through. Have a listen to some of the album here: http://www.patrickpark.net/listen And watch this video, which I love, for the song from "Love Like Swords" that first entranced me. So simply gorgeous. And the video is just pure fun. I don't know how he managed to keep a straight face while all that background commotion was going on! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Miwc9Ir51Lk Great thread idea, PopTodd. So many great albums get overlooked.
  2. Two more for the reading list...no, 3, because that interview sold me on reading the new Jerry Lee Lewis book. Thanks! I've only read "The Goldfinch" by Donna Tartt, but yes, her writing is exquisite.
  3. So what are we having? I'm in charge of the enormous turkey this year....21 lbs, to be stuffed only directly beneath the skin, which creates a beautiful effect when sliced, and also keeps the fragile breast meat from ever drying out. I'll make a side casserole of the extra stuffing, which is full of wonderful things, and I'll make gravy once the turkey is roasted. Beyond that, we're bringing a "Chocolate Turtle Pie" (No turtles were harmed in the making of this pie) and I hope my sons are coming up with some mashed potatoes and veggies and pumpkin pie. Counting my blessings too, of which I h
  4. ...well, you know the line, although I'm not sure Sgt. Pepper had anything to do with it. Twenty years ago today, Wilco played their very first show. Their live debut was on November 17, 1994 to a capacity crowd at Cicero's Basement Bar in St. Louis, Missouri. That night they called themselves "Black Shampoo", but thankfully this soon was replaced by the name Wilco. This seems like a good day to pause and reflect a little on all the wonderful music and shows and friends and magical moments that have been a part of their long wild ride, and ours as fans. I want to say to Jeff and company,
  5. I'm sorry. This has been a rotten week for me. I wish us both a better tomorrow!
  6. Does anyone know if a recording of this show exists?
  7. Here's how those pumpkins from my first post turned out. Here's the big guy, about 16" tall, ready to rampage. But first, a snack! The little guy reminds me of Mr. Bill...."Oh nooooo!" My daughter took this creepily-angled shot. Ok, bring on the candy-grubbers!
  8. Yeah, that one was fun...arm in a cast, weird rash (green) all over the face, etc. etc. We'd tell people stuff like, "Yeah, we had to set that arm ourselves. Hope the elbow still bends." or, regarding the rash, "Just needs a little $5 tube of ointment to clear it up...but without insurance, that tube costs $300, so we're just getting by without it...." It was an election year. I loved this! The story comes together so much differently than you expect! I know, right?!
  9. Yep, I know, not the catchiest of thread titles, but it gets the job done. So this year, we have Halloween on the best of days, a Friday, which ought to make for lots of late trick-or-treating, pranks, and parties. The weather has been mild so far, at least in my region (Southern CA)...even a bit hot! But the weather usually turns colder right around Halloween, making all those skimpy, thin costumes seem even thinner. What have you got brewing for the night? Any great, inventive costumes? I remember fondly the year my middle son went as a movie theatre floor...popcorn everywhere, including
  10. If I ever see an amputee being hung, I'll probably just start yelling out random letters.
  11. Rest in peace, Jack. You made some of my earliest musical memories.
  12. “The only escape from the miseries of life are music and cats...” -Albert Schweitzer Jeff nailed it on both counts.
  13. Thanks, Susan! She made it easy, she was having so much fun up there!
  14. Also some Mavis shots from the weekend. She dazzled! We'll take you there! This photo strikes me as, "If Mavis ain't happy, ain't NOBODY happy!" haha What a joyous set this was! Everybody left just glowing.
  15. A few photos from last weekend: Spencer on drums Jeff grinning into the sun Scott "Tweedy" McCaughey helping out on keyboards
  16. That was a great, insightful review! Thanks for sharing it.
