  1. I think it sucks ass. Apparently their principal influences are now Christopher Cross and Prince. And where the fuck is the goddamn reverb?!
  2. Neutral Milk Hotel! Beachwood Sparks (this is actually happening, so yay for me) Uncle Tupelo
  3. I don't feel like reading this whole thread, so forgive me if I'm repeating anything. I know I definitely agree with the Doors sucking and Animal Collective being overrated. When/how did Daft Punk become so influential and popular? I can't take hip-hop seriously because I don't understand putting skits on albums not by Adam Sandler. I think Nick Drake is kinda boring. Sticky Fingers>Any Beatles album.
  4. MMJ- Evil Urges Jim James is still the singer of this band right?
  5. I picked up the new Sub Pop sampler at Record Store Day yesterday, and I have to say the title track of the new Blitzen Trapper album (Furr) is stunning. If you like the Kinks, Cat Stevens or Wes Anderson movies, you will love the shit out of this song.

    Bon Iver

I wrote this review this week http://music.dallasobserver.com/2008-02-14/music/bon-iver/ Now I want to take it all back since he has INDIGO GIRLS LYRICS TATTOOED ON HIS ARM!!!!
  7. I thought they tossed all the masters for these in the Mississippi...
  8. I listened to this album streaming on their website the other day and it did nothing for me. I was really excited when If You Didn't Laugh... came out--it's definitely their their best record behind Kids in Philly and Let's Cut the Crap. Besides the possible exception of Ryan Adams I'm not sure if there's another group/artist out there that's disappointed me more over the years, however. I mean, Float Away isn't just bad for by their standards--it was one of the worst albums I've ever listened to.
  9. Is this as awesome as I'm hoping it is?
  10. I've seen Black Mountain a couple of times now and they are always excellent. The last show they did here (with the Cave Singers, who blew my mind as well) was easily one of the 5 best shows I saw in 07.
  11. I just don't get kids these days with their Animal Collective and their Daft Punk and their DJs and whatnot. That being said, the Panda Bear album has some exquisite moments. Not in my top ten though.
  12. Saw Walk Hard last night. Had some funny parts, but overall it kind of sucked.
  13. Sorry, but that Xmas song blows.
  14. That pic was taken at a SXSW day party in 2006. Neil walked in with his wife, Jonathan Demme and Louis Black from the Austin Chronicle to see the M's play. He ended up standing right next to my girlfriend, who can't be seen in the picture--a fact which I will hear about incessantly from now until the end of time. Paul and I have visual proof, however, thanks to the roving eye of a Chronicle photographer. When I saw the picture in the paper the next day I nearly passed out. We never said anything to him--members of MMJ and other bands were there hanging out, and they looked just as starstruck a
  15. Happy Birthday, dude. Here's a picture of you and me from our last kegger.
  16. I bought my first Hank Thompson record Saturday. Hank Thompson and the Brazos Valley Boys Live at the State Fair of Texas. From 1963, I believe. Strange timing.
  17. I'm a big fan of the Cons, Ladyhawk, Black Mountain, the Pink mountaintops and Rock Plaza Central, but I live in Texas, so I'm probably not much help to you. I do think that the Broken Social Scene related stuff gets way too much hype, although I agree that Feist is pretty awesome. In fact I like her a whole lot more than Broken Social Scene. Be glad for the lack of guyliner on your hot Canadian bands list, though. It could be much, much worse.
  18. I signed up like two weeks ago. Didn't need an invite. Do you need one now? My friend was able to sign up this weekend with no problems also.
  19. Oh shit, I forgot about Dinosaur Jr.
  20. I just made a preliminary list of stuff I've heard this year and it was like 60 or 70 albums. I think I have a problem. I've heard plenty I liked this year, but not so much that really stuck in the way my favorite records do. I was disappointed in a lot of albums by my favorite artists--Okkervil, Spoon, Springsteen, Band of Horses, Steve Earle, etc.--and a couple of my '07 faves were actually released in 2006 before being widely released this year (Elvis Perkins, Rock Plaza Central). This is gonna be hard.
  21. That Bon Iver album is really, really good. I think everyone should wait on top tens till they hear the new Phosphorescent though. It will definitely be near the top of my list.
  22. Oh, come on. It's gonna rule. Even the Doggett seasons of X-Files were better than most tv. You guys should check out this article: http://www.popmatters.com/pm/features/arti...ed-the-x-files/
