Do Make Say Think are amazing. They make me happy.

The Twilight Sad -- Think of a Scottish Arcade Fire.

Stars of Track and Field -- Often compared to Radiohead, but I don't see the comparison really. Just good indie rock from the hotbed of Portland.

who akron? I think you should especially if you like gastr. the song black horse sounds like it could be an akron/family song.

Shit yeah. The Modey Lemon are awesome.

I was actually just about to mention a band that I once say play a show with the Modey Lemon (although they're very different from them), the Gris Gris.

shit yeah, I love Gris Gris. good stuff all around.

and if you dig Modey Lemon, you should check out Midnite Snake, it's another band that ML's drummer, Paul Quattrone is in. heavy instrumental music. they have a couple albums on iTunes.

Phil Gnarly & the Toughguys were contemporaries of Spooner/Firetown.....and those boys were considerably more entertaining.
You learn something new every day. I only know Spooner/Firetown by virtue of their recordings. Did Phil Gnarly have records?

LouieB

got their self titled album. a second rate eagles/allman bros. hybrid in my opinion
See the alt.country thread. OMDD were okay for the time and a country rock band for sure.

If we are dragging out the oldies, I could name a ton of crazy stuff no one really wants to hear. (I threatened to do that a few years ago...)

Phosphorescent (Will Oldham + Neutral Milk Hotel + Kris Kristofferson=bliss)

Brothers and Sisters (jangly folk-pop from Austin)

Current Leaves (Psychedelic country straight out of Denton, TX)

Eleventh Dream Day (underrated Midwestern indie-rock pioneers)

Alela Diane (Joanna Newsom-esque folk singer from California)

Micah P. Hinson (best thing to come out of Abilene, TX in years)

Oakley Hall (just signed to merge, put out two great albums last year)

Pleasant Grove (Best Dallas band of my lifetime. Auscultation of the Heart is a lost classic.)

The Theater Fire (Fort Worth Mariachi-rock)
