Coltrane
I'll respectfully disagree here. The LPs themselves were certainly nothing to write home about, but I saw NY w/ the Harvesters, the Shocking Pinks, and the Bluenotes back then & it was pretty damn good. I saw a version of Ordinary People in '88 & it just blew me away! It'll be nice to have a clean take on this, as the live version I have from that show is just ok quality. There was definitely a lot of stuff from the 80's that did not make it onto the records that is just great. The austin city limits with the International Harvesters is amazing! Having said that it's kind of weird for these to be the old studio recordings where I assumed he re-recorded the older songs for what I thought to be a new album. This is even weirder when a record like "Homegrown" remains unreleased.
Analogman
well the 80's are all the rage with the kids today, so maybe he's trying to attract a new younger audience. Maybe that is why the girl at the store wears a bandana around her neck - and I keep seeing kids wearing checkered deck shoes.
jc4prez
Great track but the keys kill it. The horns are a bit much at times but, this could have been one of his best releases. If he does this live I guarentee its one of the best things he's done.

If he does this live I guarentee its one of the best things he's done. I have only heard the live version from one of the 88 shows and i can tell you i have always thought of it as one of neil's best songs. I'm disapointed it has not come across well on the album although i still have not heard it yet i will have to change that tongiht.

Those shows were fantastic. Lots of fun. Neil might have been trying to put the screws to Geffen on record but live Neil rocked the Eighties. I know I was there and I loved every minute of it. imsjry
Ok, so is Ordinary People a redone version from this year or is it the same studio version that's been on bootlegs since the 80's?
LouieB
I really think Neil Young needs to get more albums out...there just aren't enough. He might want to consider raising ticket prices too. LouieB
LouieB
Maybe that is why the girl at the store wears a bandana around her neck -Nearly everyone had one at Pitchfork.I used to wear one as a headband, but that was a very long time ago.....before the 80s.LouieB

LouieB
yeah how many are there like 50? releasing a little more than one a year just isn't good enough.Well I know I can't keep up and I am not even trying, although some of the new concert stuff is tempting. hwllo
yeah the tickets are a little expensive, but realistically the places are small enough to where even if you're in the last row you still have a good view. i can't wait for the chicago show. neil young may not be where he was 25 years ago but he's still better than 95% of the bands/people playing today

If I actually could go to one of these shows I might have tired for a ticket since it has been alot of years since I have seen him, but for the price you can see a heck of alot of very good current bands up close in a club. So while even I may be cynical about the current music scene, most of the time I woudl still rather see some band trying to make a go of it at a club (or even one of the more successful new bands) than spend the dough on one of the dinosaurs. (Although I sure would have liked to see Jorma Kaukaunon at Fitzgerald's this weekend...) LouieB
hwllo
he is a dinosaur, but hey, the dinosaurs will be extinct soon so there's not too much longer to see them live. not to mention i just got into neil young like 4 years ago, and since then all i've been able to see live of him is his farmaid set in 05, and CSNY last year. so this will be my first time really seeing him, so that's how i justify it haha
