I never cared much for the other albums, besides those three. I wish they would re-master them, or do something about the sound in general - sort of like what was done with Ten recently.

Yes.

Did anyone catch Heaven & Hell in concert last night on the tube? (VH1 Classic?) They sounded just the way you'd want them to sound. I caught the last half - Heaven & Hell (the song) had Tony taking his long, dark solos, and Neon Knights had him tearing up the fretboard just as he did when the record came out.

Both Tony and Geezer looked fantastic, especially given their age. Ol' Leather Lungs looked like death warmed over (but sounded really good), and Vinnie looked like he needed to push himself away from the buffet table. But I would love to catch these guys if they ever came to Indy.

Caught a few songs, one of the them was "The Mob Rules". I thought it was good, too and I just read they are playing in Chicago on my birthday. I never seen a "true" metal show before, so perhaps this may be a nice first.

I just returned home from the WORLD PREMIERE of "British Steel". Dudes, my ears are ringing - but I had such a fantastic time!

The Priest came right out and did the whole LP right at the start. Halford had the crowd eating out of his hand. Still a great frontman. The whole band appeared to be having a great time. And the crowd was as cranked up as any crowd I've ever seen - they knew seeing these guys in a 2000 seat theatre was a special treat.

After the LP they wasted no time - went right into a savage "Ripper". Other highlights for me were Victim Of Changes, and Diamonds And Rust. They ended with the obligatory Another Thing Comin' that blew the roof off. I didn't a Green Manalishi, but wtf - it still was an explosive 100 minutes.

I emphatically agree..here's my review and a few shots:

As far as I'm concerned they never put out a bad album. Even the first solo album by Jerry Cantrell (Boggy Depot) is really good.

I agree with you there. The new song sounds bloody great too. I am looking forward to this new release, big time.

That is awesome! I like the little squeak he does, isn't that from the Phantom of the park movie?

I think so.

I've read recently that the new KISS album will be sold only at Walmart. It looks like Gene and Paul are doing a deal like AC/DC did. It will be a good chance to pick up the KISS re-masters I don't have for a good price (hopefully).

Elton John to play on new Alice in Chains record:

NEW YORK – Alice in Chains thought it would take a miracle to get Elton John to play on the band's tribute record to their late lead singer, Layne Staley. But it only took a listen to the song to get the rock legend on board.

"He's a really warm person," said Alice in Chains co-founder Jerry Cantrell of John. "He got up and gave us a couple of hugs, and said, `Well Jerry, I just wanted to tell you that I think it's a beautiful song. ... I really dig the sentiment of what it's about and who it's for and I just want to tell you that I'm going to play on the song.'"

John plays piano on "Black Gives Way to Blue," a short but poignant ode to Staley, who died of a drug overdose in 2002. The song is the title track for their upcoming CD, the grunge rock band's first studio album in 14 years.

Cantrell, who wrote the tune, had already made a demo of the song when someone heard it and suggested John as the perfect person to play the piano part. Although the band knew people connected to the 62-year-old singer, they thought it was a long shot that he would even consider it.

"I didn't think that would happen. He's a pretty busy guy doing his own thing," Cantrell said.

But they sent the song to him, and as fate would have it, both acts were slated to record at a studio complex at the same time.

It wasn't until Alice in Chains left the studio for a break that they got word that John wanted to meet with them.

"We got a call from our studio manager saying that Elton wanted to talk to us," said Cantrell, laughing. "We jumped in the car, left our lunches on the table, and cruised back to the studio and walked into the studio where he was recording."

After John confirmed he would play on the song, the band flew to Las Vegas, where John was performing, to finish the recording.

"One of the most nerve-racking moments I had was actually making a suggestion to him. What do you say to Elton John?" he joked. "But he was really open to the process. ... He fit into the song, and he really brought something that was really necessary and took the song to another level."

The CD, set for release Sept. 29, is Alice in Chains' first with singer-guitarist William DuVall, who joined the band — which also includes drummer Sean Kinney and bassist Mike Inez — a few years ago. While DuVall has a different sound than Staley, Cantrell says the music is still Alice in Chains.

"It never gets too far out that you can't figure out who it is after a couple of notes, and that's always one of my main goals," he said. "To find that musical fingerprint I think is the goal of every band and musician, and we're very grateful that we found ours pretty early, and it's still intact, although evolved."

That makes me think of his duet with Axl Rose.

Oh man, I forgot about that. Seemed odd with all the anti gay stuff Axl was known for. I remember Elton giving him a big hug at the MTV video awards.

I like the fact that Alice is doing a tribute album for Layne. I hope it's as good as "Back in Black".

Observation: radio in the midwest likes their AC/DC Bon-ified. Heard Whole Lotta Rosie, Jailbreak and Ride On over the past couple of days. :rock

I might be willing to move to a city that plays both "Ride On" and "Jailbreak" on the radio. That "Jailbreak," ep is still my favorite ACDC release.

So I read the Lemmy interview in the new RS. (Hot Madonna on the cover, not the current Iggy Pop version) Damn. After I finished I couldn't decide if I felt sorry for the guy (not sure if that's a correct sentiment, unsure how to word it) or if this guy is just the dude of all mother f -in dudes. I mean, OZZY is the tame one? Now I need to give Motorhead a deeper listen.

He hung out at the Cavern club when the Beatles were there, dropped acid in the 60's at the London Scene with the Beatles and Floyd, was a Roadie for Jimi Hendrix. The guy has had a life.
