Sir Stewart
there's a lot of douchebaggery going on in this thread.I like this thread - I don't miss the usual kneejerk defensive feeling I get when I read criticisms of music I like in other threads. I say viva this thread. Of course, no one's dissed Prince yet...so don't quote me.
Oil Can Boyd
Most people who say Trout Mask Replica is a great album haven't listened to the whole thing.
jmacomber68w
90 percent of bob marley's songs sound exactly the same. boring. haha this was going to be my rant, totally agree and........ quadrophenia is better than tommy neil young should stop bitching about everything and stick to playing acoustic cause he has yet to deliver a decent guitar solo dave matthews band, dave matthews gets an A+ for songwriting and his passion during live shows, his band gets a D, and the dmb following gets an F listen to a real jam band!!! london calling is the only good clash album over the hills and far away is the greatest song of all time with wading in the velvet sea a close second and finally, since phish broke up, pearl jam is the 2nd best american rock band behind you konw who (its wilco if you dont know)
Panther
The faults of modern recordings make it really easy for anyone to bash anything even a great band like Arcade Fire The greatness of recordings from the 1960s makes sunny and cher sound preti great
hardwood floor
Patti Smith is a total no-talent who has parlayed bad poetry, dirty hair and a fluke song co-written by bruce springsteen into legendary status Patty Smythe > Patti Smith Berton Averre's guitar solo in My Sharona is better than anything Jimi Hendrix ever played I wish Bono would just fucking shut up I would rather have major dental work than sit through a Dave Matthews Band gig Clap your Hands Say Yeah blows The Kinks > The Who
uncool2pillow
Die.  No, don't die. But seriously, you have a problem with Kenny Burrell, Grant Green, Johnny Smith, Wes Montgomery, Charlie Christian, etc? That sucks. You're missing out on some great music. Amen. Maybe not synthesizers, except for Herbie Hancock's "Headhunters". Some brilliant electric guitar has been part of the jazz tradition as old as bop.
markosis
This thread has turned more into a list of musical grievances, but that's cool, I'm down.  I don't understand (actually I despise) the use of the term "prog" or "progressive" to describe music that features alot of technical musicianship/odd time signatures/syncopated stuff etc. OK, it was definitely progressive when Yes did it. Now its just boring and played out. And Dream Theater sucks. So does Mahavishnu Orchestra. AC/DC is unlistenable. The Band was better than The Beatles.
NightOfJoy
As of this moment, rock n roll is 95% dead. And the rock music that the hipsters are worshipping is almost all pathetic crap. I actually feel sorry for kids coming of age today.
socbret
All this hating on The National is making me  But I agree 100% with those who have said that Radiohead is WAY "overrated".

TCP
In response to two previous views shared, in my opinion The Band have two good albums. The Beatles have over a dozen. Neil Young is my favorite guitarist. The National are okay, but listening to an entire album of theirs is a difficult task.
bjorn_skurj
Springsteen was not the future of rock 'n' roll. Run-DMC was. I would turn down hot sex if I had to listen to Norah Jones while it was going on.
DAngerer09
I would turn down hot sex if I had to listen to Norah Jones while it was going on. I wouldn't go THAT far.... let's be sensible.
froggie
As much as i love led zep, CCR are the best band of the rock era I prefer jeff tweedy as a solo artist, over wilco I've never listened to Smile in its entirety Radiohead are way overrated Bono is the biggest tool of the rock era Revolver is an overrated album Morrison hotel and LA woman are better than all the previous Doors albums put together As much as i like Pink floyd, I cant listen to the Wall in its entirety 1993 was one of the greatest years of music, involving all styles Pre-war blues is way underrated
thermocaster
In The Aeroplane Over The Sea is a hopeless mess of a record. It's got some good songs, but it's far from an all-time classic. Love's Forever Changes contains almost nothing that warrants its reputation. The best song of the 1960's was "Gimme Shelter". The 1967-72 Moody Blues are unfairly underrated by music critics. jmacomber68w
radiohead is getting hated on, but its good to see, lets vent without fear, i like this thread the allman brothers are better now than ever before the black keys new album sucks john frusciante is the only reason to listen to rhcp kind of blue is an amazing album, but sometimes i just feel like never hearing it again (sometimes i stress, sometimes) I was given a copy of music from big pink, hated every second of it, i hate the band....I HATE THE BAND
stooka
Christine McVie was the most talented member of Fleetwood Mac. Paul McCartney (Not Yoko) broke up The Beatles. John Lennon - although a great Rock N Roll legend, was a pseudo-intellectual. Had she lived, Janis Joplin would have ended up on Hollywood Squares. B B King isn't even a top 100 guitarist. Happenings Ten Years Ago by The Yardbirds (1966) is the first Heavy Metal Song. TCP
Recording on tape has it's faults too. The noise floor does not "add" anything to the music.
markosis
Did I already say the Band was better than the Beatles? If not: the Band was better than the Beatles.  And Trane was better than Miles. And Jack White is worthless.

Welsh Rich
I'm with the Doors and Beach Boys haters - both are incredibly over-rated. Animal Collective aren't the great white hope they're made out to be - appalling live.
Nobody Girl
I would turn down hot sex if I had to listen to Norah Jones while it was going on. That's just blasphemy, not musical blasphemy.
Griddles
I just read the whole thread and this basically sums up my views:As much as i love led zep, CCR are the best band of the rock era I've never listened to Smile in its entirety Radiohead are way overrated Bono is the biggest tool of the rock era Revolver is an overrated album Morrison hotel and LA woman are better than all the previous Doors albums put together As much as i like Pink floyd, I cant listen to the Wall in its entirety 1993 was one of the greatest years of music, involving all styles Pre-war blues is way underratedThough I do not really know what specific music from 1993 is being referenced. And yes i removed one remark.
bobbob1313
The first two Linkin Park albums are not terrible.
indy81
No band has been overrated as much as The Band is overrated on this board. And I like The Band. Quadrophenia might be the best rock album ever. U2 is the best band of the last 25 years. Jethro Tull's '70s output is criminally underrated. Led Zeppelin is the best rock band ever. Weezer's Green Album is just as good as the Blue Album. Cheap Trick's output from 1977-1979 is the best rock to ever come out of Illinois. Jeff Tweedy gets a lot of credit for stuff that Jay Bennett wrote. A.M. is a lot better than Sky Blue Sky.
