Coltrane
The vibe at Friday Cheers shows is pretty horrible. About 80% of the people come out to drink and socialize and could care less about the music. This was no different last night, though those who were there to see Dr. Dog seemed to be fairly enthusiastic and knew most every song.Couldn't agree more about the vibe at Friday Cheers, but it is pretty bad ass having Dr. Dog or Jason Isbell as opposed to the type of junk they normally have. DBT played last year which was great, but generally it is totally forgetable crap. Not trying to hijack this into a pro-Richmond thread, but between this the National and Toad's place there are a lot more options than there have been in a while to see decent bands in Richmond. If someone told me last summer that Dr. Dog would play Friday Cheers I would have laughed in their face. What do you think of Toad's and The National?
LouisvilleGreg
I saw the New Pornographers at Toads and its a pretty intimate venue, though when its packed the sight lines aren't so great. They really have done a great job with the restoration of that building though. I've yet to go to a show at the National as there hasn't been something that I've absolutely had to seen. Hit me up if you wanna go see Dr Dog in Arlington later this summer or if you're an MMJ fan, I'll be going to the Charlottesville show as well. take care, Greg
gabepride
I second that Toad's Place Richmond is a great place to see a show. I caught Andrew Bird there last fall, and it was phenomenal. Awesome to have a smoke-free club in Phillip-Morris land. Back to Dr. Dog: still looking for a PM, if someone would be so kind. Thanks!
DAngerer09
I've listened to this new album a few times now. I like a lot, not much of a departure from their previous work, but a solid album.

Kalle
This is my favorite of theirs, to me the most solid songwriting, melodies, and damn those catchy hooks!
solace
it's pretty close for me... hard to pick a favorite between the last

Wendy
Anyone else having a problem reading the Relix article? I have an account but it looks like the july issue isn't available yet.I am able to read the July issue. But I can't post it, it is not copyable in this format, its sorta like a PDF file where you click the button and the page turns, like a real magazine but sorta animated. Analogman
That magazine is pretty much shit now - for those who want to read it, you may just want to stand at the store and read it. I doubt the article is that long.

Maybe it's my computer at work. I'll wait until I can read it for free. I picked up the Tom Petty issue and, you're right A-man, this rag has gone to shit. When it was bought a few years back (maybe 5 years ago) it went downhill. It used to have great, in depth articles about bands you couldn't read anywhere else. Now it's just another mediocre magazine filled with advertisements.
SarahC
this record is very good. much more layered maybe a bit more mature. i dig it.
mfwahl
this record is very good. much more layered maybe a bit more mature. i dig it.Mature is a good word for it. It's not as consistently mind-blowing as We All Belong, but it has some of their best moments on it of their career. The results are more subtle and subdued than but very classy. SarahC
indeed. i'm also really digging the string usage.

bigideas
i've totally missed out on Dr Dog.i read a Fate review in Paste (which i took advantage of the $1 year subscription) and all the Beatles comparisons made me look into them.the clips on Amazon sound very promising. now i'm wondering which preorder to get.i think InSound has the bonus 7" with 2 non-album tracks.their record label has a big package with vinyl/cd/shirt/posters, etc for $35. i think i might dive headlong into the vinyl/cd bundle.something about a shirt in the preorder deal always seems to get me.
