Van Morrison was, unsurprisingly, very impressive. Really tight band of great musicians, Van's voice was in top form (he can still belt it out) and a wide variety of his tunes from throughout his career. The highlight for me was "Ballerina" from Astral Weeks. It was great to share time and space in a beautiful room like the Chicago Theatre with a master of his craft, really glad I went. Oh yeah, after we walked in, I got in line for a beer and found $40 bucks.

I lost $40 in the beer line at a Spoon show at the Chicago Theater a couple of years ago.  I think you may have found my $!  :D

This sounds like a blast! How was it?

A fun night out. The Waco Brothers completely rocked --- a funny moment occurred when the mic's cut out and Jon and Dean mimed the lyrics as they were playing.

First time seeing Mojo for me and he was everything that I figured he'd be. Sloppy guitar work, but a very entertaining. His tune, "Trump can suck my dick"   (that he has been playing since 2016), caused a few 'fuck you's from the crowd and some left. I was wondering who they thought they were coming to see, if they were going to get that upset to leave.

Mojo was hanging out the whole night with the crowd and stayed after the show to signed anything and talk to anyone. During the show, Mojo mentioned that he has not played the Chicago area in over 20 years.

Blue Island also brewed their Mojo is My Co-Pilot for the show - very tasty.

Mojo Nixon/The Waco Brothers at the Blue Island Brewery. Should be a hoot.

After I saw your post, I tried to get tickets -- sold out.  How were the Waco Brothers?

That stinks -- they had some tickets at the door. I am friends with one of the owners and probably could have gotten you in with no problem. There was plenty of space.

I haven't seen the Waco Brothers play in a long while -- I forget how much they bring a punch.

Shoot.  Waco Brothers are one of my favorites.  Sorry I missed it (and, coincidently, I happened to be in Blue Island on Thursday).

Jealous of all of you! Have fun and report back!

Good show. Jay seems in good spirits. They did caryitid easy and driving the view which were highlights for me. New stuff sounded good too. Also, one step closer to having my favorites Tupelo album fully signed just need Mike

Donna, Neko was great! She had a six piece band with her, and at a few points there was 5 guitars at the same time. But other times there was keyboards, pedal steel, and vocal harmonies. Fox Confessor was an important album for me in my college years so it was great to finally hear some of those songs live (alas, no Star Witness!!) and I was impressed with how well the Hell-On songs sounded next to them. My biggest thing of note was how strict the Burton Cummings Theatre was with cellphones. When they scanned your ticket they warned you no cellphone use at all unless you're in the lobby. Supposedly this came from Neko. During the first song of the opener a woman behind me had her phone out (not taking pictures) she was immediately escorted out and did not return. I imagine that was pretty disappointing!

Neko has been anti-phone for the last few tours now.

I like grabbing a few pics when the artist first gets on stage, especially if I'm close like I was last night but it's a fine tradeoff to not have idiots on their phones filming everything the whole time. I know I've brought this up before but I saw a guy film an entire Wilco concert on his iPad once. His iPad!!!!

You'll have to search him out in Belleville I guess! Jay signed a UT cd for me once too. Held my drink and everything! He was sweet. Glad to hear he's enjoying himself onstage.

Wow, that is strict! Too bad some folks get so blatant and obnoxious with their cell phones that everyone else gets penalized for it. But I can understand it from the artist's point of view. Sounds like Neko gave you a Hell-On of a performance! :thumbup
